The Dungeon Isle is a large island located south of Pyrrhia. Three thousand years ago, it was enchanted by Precipice to be a prison for many LeafWings and BeetleWings, as well as some SeaWings and RainWings after Queen Falcon's assassination. Any dragon who enters is unable to leave due to an enchanted barrier, with only descendants of both Queen Retribution and Queen Summit able to pass through. It is currently home to the WildWings, SharpWings, many hybrids, and any other dragons who fled from their homes for safety, all of which live in the Court of Refuge.

Description

The Isle is roughly a week's journey for dragons to fly south from the Rainforest Kingdom to the island, with smaller islands dotting the sea between containing instructions directing any dragons to fly toward it.[1]

Notable features

Barrier

Because the island was originally intended to be a prison for its original inhabitants, there is a barrier all around preventing dragons from leaving unless they were a descendant of both Queen Retribution and Queen Summit. It is marked by a thick line of burned, ashen trees and grass. Anyone who tries to leave will be electrocuted, needing to rest in the infirmary, along with the SharpWings instantly being summoned over and keeping watch on the attempted escaper.[2]

The Court of Refuge is a castle where all of Dungeon Isle's inhabitants reside in.[citation needed]

Precipice's cave

The entrance to Precipice's cave was on the southern edge of the Dungeon Island, at the very edge of the barrier, nestled between two peaks.[3] It was behind giant boulders from an old rock slide in a space with a shallow rock filled pool with a small waterfall.[4]

Behind the rocks is a tunnel that consists of smooth stone walls and mossy rocks underfoot, about three dragons long. The cool, dark [5] cave was filled with a large pool that glowed pale blue from the bottom. The roof was a perfectly formed oval covered in glowworms. In the center of the pool was a small table sized island with a scooped indent at the top. INside of the scoop is where Precipice had left the enchanted eggs that Umber and company find. [6]

Southern Snowplace

Quokka mentioned that this is where the islands' inhabitants get snow to make ice cream.[7] Mulberry also mentions this place as being beyond the mountains where Precipice's Cave is located, and another stretch of ocean. [8]

Prisoner Records

As part of the Dungeon Isle's original spell, SharpWings were enchanted to instantly be aware of the arrival of new prisoners, as well as if they ever tried to leave the island.[9] When new dragons first arrive, SharpWings record their names and prisoner categories, which are represented by a number. Beryl claimed no one knew what these numbers represented,[10] but their significance was later rediscovered in the SharpWings' room in the Court of Refuge by Umber and Quokka, etched on a metal plaque.[11] The categories prisoners can be sorted into are as follows:

  • 1 — FAMILY OF CRIMINAL
  • 2 — UNWITTING ACCOMPLICE
  • 3 — INTENTIONAL ACCOMPLICE
  • 4 — PETTY THIEVERY, NONVIOLENT
  • 5 — GRANT THIEVERY, NONVIOLENT
  • 6 — HARBORING DANGEROUS CRIMINALS, CONSPIRACY TO PLAN VIOLENCE
  • 7 — ASSAULT, NON-DEADLY ATTACKS ON OTHER DRAGONS
  • 8 — CONSPIRACY TO COMMIT MURDER, TREASON
  • 9 — MURDER, NON-ROYAL
  • 10 — MOST DANGEROUS CRIMINALS; MURDER, ASSASSINATION, TREASON; EXTREMELY VIOLENT
