Bay of a Thousand Scales
The Bay of a Thousand Scales is a spiral of islands that make up the "tail" of the dragon-shaped continent of Pyrrhia, and could be considered to be an archipelago. It is said to have hundreds of islands, making it easy to hide the Summer Palace among them. It is the only landmass in the Kingdom of the Sea, and is ruled by Queen Coral. The bay is also home to the ruins of the Summer Palace, which were enchanted centuries ago by Albatross, an animus SeaWing, to grow on its own from a rock. In addition, it is home to the Deep Palace and the location of the Island Palace. The SeaWings are currently working on a new palace that is not hidden and will be used for diplomacy and Queen Coral's scroll readings.
Description
The Bay of a Thousand Scales is composed of vast expanses of clear,[1] empty ocean, dotted here and there with solitary outcroppings of rock.[2] Green-and-white islands glow like scattered jewels in the ocean. Several of them are shaped like claws, curving neatly through the water.[3] Some of the islands are small patches of sand, barely big enough for a dragon to land on, and others are composed of towering, jagged rocks shooting out of the water.[1] The Bay is circled by a spur of land that resembles a dragon's tail, becoming narrower as it reaches the end. There are palm trees,[4] islands,[4] coastlines,[5] beaches, and cliffs.[6] These islands also contain several human settlements that were described to look like miniature castles surrounded by small fortresses and several fires.[6] There is a sea breeze.[7]
An island that was used by Blister as a soldier encampment was described to be a wildly overgrown[8] jungle,[9] with a hollow between several fallen trees, palm fronds, and tree trunks.[10] Through a break in the jungle, there is a lagoon[9] that is overlooked by a shadowy tree[11] containing bushes, spiderwebs,[12] and large bird nests.[13]
The SeaWing palaces are located in the Bay of a Thousand Scales, and they are also the home to some more private dragons that live by themselves.[14]

History
The Dragonet Prophecy
The Bay of a Thousand Scales was both the place where Riptide first met the dragonets of destiny and the location of Blister's hideout. The Summer Palace was hidden on one of the islands along with the SeaWings' above-water prisons and is the book's main setting. Kestrel, after being murdered by Blister and Morrowseer, was also found on an island close to the Summer Palace, which was firebombed by dragonflame cacti in a SkyWing attack, and is currently in ruins.
The Jade Mountain Prophecy
The Bay of a Thousand Scales was seen near the end when Turtle travels there to stop Anemone from massacring her tribe.
In the epilogue, Queen Coral mentioned in her letter to Turtle that they were building a new above-water palace.
Legends
Fathom spent the entirety of part one in the Bay of a Thousand Scales, conjuring magic, witnessing the infamous Royal SeaWing Massacre, and being hated by the rest of his tribe.
Winglets
When Deathbringer and Quickstrike flew through the Bay of a Thousand Scales in search of Blister's hideout, they encountered a scavenger castle. It was later revealed that Blister had set up a camp on one of the islands in the bay.

The Bay of a Thousand Scales was mentioned as a setting in Coral's scrolls, When We Swam the Ocean Deep and The Island at the Beginning.
Trivia
- In the first arc's map, the Bay of a Thousand Scales was not labeled. However, in the second arc, it is labeled.
