- "Oh, no, thanks. [...] I don't actually care about that royal bloodline stuff."
- — Dugong to Beryl, The Hybrid Prince
Dugong is a male WildWing who was introduced in The Hybrid Prince. He is a descendant of Princess Bayou and was previously an underling of Taipan before standing up to him. He currently resides in the Court of Refuge, and has romantic feelings for Sora.
Description
Umber thought that Dugong looked like he could be a MudWing, or distantly related to them. He has a broad face[1] and tree-bark brown scales with patches of dark green and dark blue on his wings. He has WildWing spikes along his spine and is bigger than Taipan and Royal.[2] Umber described him as hulking.[3]
Personality
While an underling of Taipan, Dugong was seen as dumb. He went along with what Taipan told him to do and would let Taipan and Royal push him around.[1] Quokka describes him as funny, and notes that he was "so much nicer" when not around Taipan or Royal.[4] After leaving the palace, he did not complain nor demand to stop for food once, which Umber suspected was due to him trying to be on his best behavior for Sora.[4]
Biography
The Forgotten Isles Prophecy
Dugong first appeared alongside Taipan and Royal when they came up to Umber and Sora. When Taipan saw that they were MudWings, he sarcastically commented that Dugong had new subjects. They proceeded to make fun of him and poke him with the Toughen Up Stick. When Umber asked him what tribe he was, Taipan mentioned that he was from the "true" MudWing royal bloodline. Dugong witnessed Taipan attack Umber, with Royal insulting Dugong for not helping them afterwards.
Later, during the Northern Lights concert, Taipan offered to catch Platypus for Beryl, Royal and Dugong by his side. Taipan and Royal blamed Dugong for losing Umber and Platypus's trail, and the trio continued searching. Dugong was there when Umber regrouped with Beryl and Snakeroot, but he did not appear to be angry with Umber like Taipan and Royal were.
The next morning, Dugong attended a training drill for the King's Teeth, which made Umber feel bad as he did not want to "toughen him up."
When Mulberry was imprisoned by Beryl and Umber was looking for him, he discovered Dugong locked in a room; he was looking at the regular door, waiting for it to open, unaware of the secret door behind him. Dugong told Umber that Taipan and Royal locked him in there so he could not go to the Northern Lights concert since he was "annoying" that day, and mentioned that Platypus would fight with Taipan when she was around, which he found great. Umber told him that he deserved better friends and said he would like to find him a troop in the Mud Kingdom, but Dugong said that if he were to ever get there, Taipan would want him to take the throne. Umber said that was not what Dugong would want, and that the MudWings had a good queen now, which Dugong found interesting. Umber asked him if he knew the way to Beryl's tower, and encouraged him to leave through the secret door to confuse Taipan and Royal. Dugong led him to a pantry that he knew Platypus often visited to steal food, where she revealed herself. Dugong agreed not to tell anyone about their plans, and offered to go find Sora.
Later, Umber, Mulberry, Platypus, Quokka, Sora, and Dugong were flying south, away from the Court of Refuge, the latter being at the rear. The group soon found a pool of water, which Dugong immediately jumped into. He caught a fish and offered it to Sora, who suggested they should share. The group travelled for several more hours before resting. They woke up at twilight and continued moving.
Soon, Umber found the location Precipice marked on her map of the Dungeon Isle. Dugong moved the rocks covering the cave with the assistance of Umber and Platypus. When Umber and Mulberry returned with Harmony and her clutchmate's eggs, Umber said that the Triumvirate and the rest of the exiles should take the eggs and escape the Isle. Dugong asked how they could find them, leading to Platypus taking them all to where they were hiding.

Relationships
Dugong is loyal and caring towards Sora, as he became more awake when Sora's name was brought up. When Umber asked if he was friends with Sora, he became flustered and admitted that he thought that Sora was really interesting. After leaving the palace, it was noted that he was trying to be on his best behavior for Sora and when they stopped to rest, Dugong offered Sora a fish he caught, which she accepted and offered to share with him. When Sora was tasked with guarding the eggs, Dugong asked to stay with her, but Sora asked Dugong to go help Umber and the others and make sure their side wins. She also asked if he could make her pancakes for breakfast when they returned. After Beryl's defeat, Dugong quickly left the palace to fetch Sora.
Dugong was Taipan's underling but Taipan and Royal would frequently bully him by telling him he was dumb and useless, pushing him around, and poking him with the Toughen Up Stick. Taipan would almost never let Dugong attend a Northern Lights concert and would lock him away in his room because he was too annoying. Dugong was typically forgotten in the room, once being left there for four days straight. However, when Taipan held Mulberry hostage, Dugong finally stood up to him and helped free Mulberry from Taipan. Umber thought that because Dugong was an only dragonet, the latter's MudWing instincts led him to Royal and Taipan even though the latter constantly bullied him.
Royal was also Taipan's underling, bullying Dugong along with Taipan. When Taipan took Mulberry as a hostage, he decided to stand up to Taipan with Dugong.
