Mulberry is a male SkyWing-LeafWing‐NightWing hybrid who was introduced in The Hybrid Prince. He is the son of Beryl and Snakeroot, and was formerly prince of the Court of Refuge before his parents were overthrown by the Triumvirate. He can read the emotions of dragons and animals and communicate with them through feelings. He is currently raising Harmony alongside Umber, Quokka, and Wollemi. He has romantic feelings for Umber.

Description

Mulberry has dark red scales edged with gold, with flecks of gold, green, and warm autumn orange here and there. He has gold scales lining his dark green eyes. His red-gold-green wings are shaped like giant leaves. Mulberry is bigger than Sora and Umber, closer to Reed or Clay's size. Umber described Mulberry's face and voice as kind, handsome, and noble. He has gold-tipped claws. Mulberry wears an orange silk gathering bag.

Personality

He is described as kind, shy, and often second-guesses himself.^{[citation needed]}

Biography

The Forgotten Isles Prophecy

The Hybrid Prince

Mulberry found Umber and Sora and brought them to the Court of Refuge after rescuing Umber from a kraken. When Mulberry introduced Umber and Sora to his mother, Beryl, he seemed anxious. He did not protest when Beryl offered to show them around the Court of Refuge. Sora seemed to admire Beryl and gratefully accepted. When Umber asked what was wrong, he pressed his talons to his head and assured him it was nothing. Umber told him not to worry as Sora called him away to look around the Dungeon Isle. When walking around the Isle, Umber asked about him being royal, with Mulberry stating that it does not change anything. After walking for a moment, multiple dragons swarmed Mulberry with questions about prey and Pyrrhia. Mulberry later took Umber to a room to sleep in.

Later, Umber saw Mulberry flying away from the Court of Refuge, but was blocked by the Barrier surrounding the Dungeon Isle and was knocked out. Mulberry and Paua took care of him and healed him until he woke up. Umber realized he was a prisoner and could never leave, but Mulberry could pass because he was part SkyWing from his mother, Beryl, and part NightWing from his father, Snakeroot.

Relationships

Beryl

Beryl is Mulberry's mother. When Mulberry first brought Umber and Sora to the Court of Refuge and introduced them to Beryl, he sounded worried. He appeared to be hesitant to let his mother show Umber and Sora around the court, although he did not stand up to her when she interrupted him.

It is later revealed that Mulberry fears his parents. Whenever Beryl and Snakeroot are angry at Mulberry, the latter feels sick on the inside and feels that his decisions are small and pointless. Even when Beryl or Snakeroot claim to forgive their son for his perceived transgressions, Mulberry knows that his parents' "forgiveness" is insincere.

Umber

Mulberry appeared to be concerned for Umber after he introduced the MudWing to his mother. When Umber started to move toward Beryl, Mulberry grabbed him to try to stop him, but let him go soon after. The two are physically affectionate towards each other.^{[citation needed]}

Snakeroot

Snakeroot is Mulberry's father. He would have manic episodes and told Umber to "stay away from the hybrid prince," which Umber suspected meant Mulberry.
