The SharpWings are twenty-five animus-touched sentinels that were introduced in The Hybrid Prince. They serve as guards to the Dungeon Isle and were originally created and enchanted by Precipice over three thousand years ago.
The enchantment is as follows: "I enchant these twenty-five dragons to come to life. I enchant them to guard the Dungeon Isle, so that as long as there are prisoners here, they shall record their names and categories, and they shall prevent them from trying to cross the Barrier. I enchant them to have a paralyzing toxin they can inject at will from their claws and to know instantly whenever a prisoner arrives or one attempts to escape."
Description
The SharpWings are metal dragons, small enough to trap in Umber's talons. They have bright silver eyes. Each dragon is slightly different, ranging from metallic pink with gold to dark green and coppery orange[1] to dark blue and iridescent purple.[2] Umber describes them as beautiful, as if someone had put care into making each of them different.[3]
They are constantly moving when flying, their wings beating at a hundred flaps per minute.[4] They are capable of speaking, but do so rarely or not at all.
Abilties
SharpWings have paralyzing toxins in their claws.[5]
Society
The SharpWings reside in a secret chamber connected to the entrance hall of the castle. The SharpWings' room is lined with shelves, The ceiling is dotted with holes that Umber assumes to lead outside. In the center of the room is a tower built of random items that the SharpWings have built up over time, consisting of but not limited to fragments of jewels, sunflower seeds, twigs, snail shells, feathers, dragon scales, scraps of paper, and needles. Clink describes it as for SharpWing eyes only.[3]
Next to the door is a metal plaque etched with writing that dictates the categories prisoners are sorted into.[6]

2 — UNWITTING ACCOMPLICE
3 — INTENTIONAL ACCOMPLICE
4 — PETTY THIEVERY, NONVIOLENT
5 — GRANT THIEVERY, NONVIOLENT

7 — ASSAULT, NON-DEADLY ATTACKS ON OTHER DRAGONS
8 — CONSPIRACY TO COMMIT MURDER, TREASON

10 — MOST DANGEROUS CRIMINALS; MURDER, ASSASSINATION, TREASON; EXTREMELY VIOLENT
Trivia
- The SharpWings may refer to dragons as "squishy ones".[7]
