Pearl was a female SeaWing dragonet who was introduced in Darkstalker. She ascended to the throne and became queen of the SeaWings at the age of five after the events of the Royal SeaWing Massacre.

During The Royal SeaWing Massacre, she used the glass from the shattered aquariums to cut herself, covering herself in blood. This caused the insane Albatross to walk right past her, believing she was already dead. After Albatross was killed, she emerged from her hiding place under a tipped-over couch and claimed her new role as queen of the SeaWings. Her first decree was to outlaw animus magic throughout the kingdom. Her brother, Fathom, made a blood oath to her, promising to never to use his magic again as long as he lived, and to never have dragonets, which she told him meant he had to stay away from Indigo, whom he was in love with. She then appointed Indigo to be the head of her personal guard.

"How am I supposed to trust you, Fathom? Whenever I look at you, I see everything he did. Won't you always be tempted to use your magic? What would stop you? What could ever stop you?"
— Pearl to Fathom, Darkstalker

(Not to be confused with Pearl, the treasurer of the SeaWing Council.)

Pearl was a female SeaWing dragonet who was introduced in Darkstalker. She ascended to the throne and became queen of the SeaWings at the age of five after the events of the Royal SeaWing Massacre.

Description

Pearl was glittered with coils of gemstones, long twisted ropes of pearls and opals and sapphires circling her torso and ankles.[1] Manta described her as a picture of majestic splendor.[2]

Personality

Pearl was blunt,[3] and often exasperated by Fathom and Indigo's immature behavior,[4] but seemed unfairly jealous when Fathom was announced an animus dragon and began receiving special treatment.[5] She sometimes used an exceedingly bored voice, and often sighed about how loud and immature Fathom and Indigo were.[6] She studied herself in mirrors for a long while before attending a party, implying she was concerned about her physical appearance.[7]

Biography

The Jade Mountain Prophecy

Moon Rising
She was mentioned when Moon was reading a scroll titled The Animus Histories, which explained that Pearl was Fathom's sister, the granddaughter of Albatross, and one of the few dragons who survived the massacre. It said that Pearl became queen peacefully and ruled for many years.

Legends

Darkstalker

Pearl was the sister of Fathom and one of the dragonets chosen for animus testing, which later became the Talons of Power ceremony. She tried to shush Indigo multiple times as they waited, and was the one to point out that it was Fathom's coconut that had hit Albatross in the chest.

During the Royal SeaWing Massacre, she used the glass from the shattered aquariums to cut herself, covering herself in blood to play dead. After Albatross was killed, she emerged from her hiding place and claimed her new role as queen of the SeaWings. Her first decree was to outlaw animus magic throughout the kingdom. Fathom made a blood oath to her, promising never to use his magic again as long as he lived and never have dragonets, which she told him meant he had to stay away from Indigo, whom he was in love with. She then appointed Indigo to be the part of her personal guard.

About a year later, Current, another survivor of the massacre, returned from being held as a "guest" of the queen of the NightWings. He reported that the NightWings had an animus, and that he was using his powers. To avoid a similar tragedy from occurring in the Night Kingdom, Pearl sent Indigo, Wharf, and Lionfish along with Fathom as his guards, to the Night Kingdom, in which they were assigned to train Darkstalker and to warn him of the price of using his magic.

Field Guides

A Guide to the Dragon World

Pearl was mentioned in Queen Lagoon's letter to Albatross about testing for animus SeaWings.

She was the recipient of a letter from Queen Carmine in the SkyWing chapter of the guide.

Relationships

Fathom and Pearl did not always get along, and she was often exasperated by him,[4] but she never followed him around to be unreasonably mean towards him.[8] After he was summoned by Albatross for his first training session, Fathom noted that she appeared to be mad at Fathom for being an animus.[9] Even after three years after the test, she acted jealous towards Fathom whenever he went off to practice with Albatross, but most of the time, she went back to normal, often exasperated by his and Indigo's immaturity.[6]

After the events of the massacre, Pearl's relationship with her brother was strained, as she feared that Fathom would go insane very much like Albatross,[10] and did not trust him. However, her love towards her brother was still there as she accepted his oath and spared him from death.

Despite being exasperated by her,[4] Pearl considered Indigo as her friend, and stated that she wanted Indigo to live a happy life.[3] Pearl believed that Indigo would be honest with her,[11] but planned for Indigo to stay away from Fathom despite her and the prince's wishes.[11] Pearl made Indigo part of her royal guard to keep her away from Fathom so they could never have dragonets or possible animus dragons together. She promised Fathom she would take care of Indigo and find a minor noble for her to have a family with.[11]

Fathom mentioned that there was a weird vibe between his sister and their mother. Before the massacre, Indigo stated this was because the only way for Pearl to become queen was for Manta to challenge Lagoon and win, then for Pearl to challenge Manta and win.[2]
