Princess Orca was the first-born animus daughter of Queen Coral and King Gill, therefore the oldest sister of Tsunami, Anemone, and Auklet. She hid her animus powers from her mother. Before the book she was killed by her mother when she challenged her for the SeaWing throne; the moment she was old enough at 7 years old. She donated a statue to the royal hatchery before she died, which she had enchanted to kill off all the female heirs, for she expected to become queen. Without heirs, she could rule the throne for generations and not worry about any challengers.

— Orca to Coral about Orca's statue, recounted in The Lost Heir

Orca was an adult female SeaWing princess who was mentioned in The Lost Heir. She was secretly an animus dragon and was killed by Queen Coral during a royal challenge.[3]

Description

Orca had dark green scales and blue eyes.[event 1]

Personality

Orca appeared to be power-hungry and extremely ambitious during her lifetime, challenging Coral at the age of seven and using her magic to secure her power over the SeaWing throne.[4] She was disliked by many of Queen Coral's subjects.[3]

Biography

Pre-Series

Before her challenge for the SeaWing throne, Orca enchanted a marble statue that she had sculpted of herself and dedicated to the Royal Hatchery. Coral did not know at that time that Orca had been an animus dragon or that the statue was enchanted to kill off the heirs to the SeaWing throne. Expecting to win, Orca then challenged her mother for the throne of the SeaWings, nearly winning, which shocked Coral. She was accidentally speared with the narwhal horn Coral wore on the end of her tail and died.

After her death, the enchanted statue began killing off all the female heirs in the hatchery for years, murdering the unhatched dragonets in secrecy before it was defeated and destroyed.

The Dragonet Prophecy

The Lost Heir
Orca was mentioned throughout The Lost Heir, including as a part of the scroll The Tragedy of Orca. Queen Coral owned several of her carvings, even though some of her subjects disliked Orca, such as Moray. Tsunami discovered that the statue in the hatchery was enchanted by her to kill off possible heirs to the SeaWing throne. It was mentioned that Anemone reanimated Orca's statue and forced it to tell her who enchanted it, and it said Orca.
The Hidden Kingdom
After the dragonets of destiny discovered one of the NightWing tunnels, Clay indirectly mentioned Orca while they were discussing animus magic.
The Brightest Night
Sunny thought about Orca when she went to meet Stonemover.

The Jade Mountain Prophecy

Moon Rising
Tsunami mentioned that she had considered before how Orca's statue had left the male SeaWing heirs alive.
Talons of Power
In the prologue, Gill saw the statue of Orca and thought about her, wishing that she could still be alive and protect her sisters herself. Later, Turtle mentioned Orca when he was thinking of his animus powers.
