King Gill was a male, sea-green SeaWing king who ruled the SeaWing tribe along with his mate, Queen Coral. He was captured by the SkyWings during the War of The SandWing Succession, and he attempted a prison rebellion by convincing his opponents to lay down with him instead of fighting. However, this was abruptly brought to an end when Scarlet restricted all of his water for months, slowly driving him insane because of dehydration. He was killed by his own daughter, Tsunami, in the SkyWing Arena before Tsunami became aware that they were related. His death was considered extremely unfortunate because King Gill was one of the few dragons capable of finding a peaceful solution to the War of SandWing Succession and one of the only ones in a position of power to do anything about it.
Gill was an adult male SeaWing who was introduced in The Dragonet Prophecy. Before being captured by the SkyWings during the War of SandWing Succession, he ruled as the SeaWing king for some time alongside his wife, Queen Coral. After being deprived of water for months in the Sky Kingdom to make him go mentally and physically insane, he was killed by Tsunami, his daughter, during a battle in the arena.

His claws were curved and sharp, like fishhooksTDP, he was twice the size of TsunamiTDP, and he had gold bands around his ankles. In Scarlet's arena, he was driven mad from lack of water because of a prisoner revolution he attempted to start. After his punishment for not wanting to fight, his eyes were bloodshot and hooded, and his tongue was swollen and purple. His snout was flecked with blood as if he had tried to drink from his own veins. According to Clay, he looked completely insane.

After finding out that he had been taken to the SkyWing Arena and subsequently killed, Queen Coral wondered why he would fight, saying that he would have simply talked the other dragons out of attacking. Coral then told Tsunami that he was her father, and she became overwhelmed with guilt. Coral was extremely saddened after the death of Gill and dismissed her council that day to mourn this death. Tsunami also mentions that she thought Shark had guessed the truth.
Abalone
Abalone was a good friend of Gill. He had been specifically chosen by Gill to guard the SeaWing Royal Hatchery and was one of the king's most loyal soldiers.ToPp  When he was inflicted with a growing tumor, Gill sought help quickly for him. When Abalone fainted in agony, Gill desperately asked for a healer first instead of protecting Coral's eggs. When Coral found out that the eggs were eventually destroyed, she ordered execution upon Abalone, which Gill strongly disagreed with.ToPp

Personality
Turtle
Little is known about his personality, though Coral recounted to Tsunami that he was the perfect dragon to be king. He was smart, strong, of a noble family, and persuasive. His intelligence was said by Coral to rival Whirlpool's. He was also gentle, and never wanted to kill others. The strength of his personality is proven by the fact he dared stand up against Queen Scarlet, despite the consequences, which were severe. He also was said to have a way with words, shown when he was able to stop prisoners from killing him in the arena. He was said to have adored Queen Coral's writing.
He was angry at Turtle for not finding Snapper in time, which resulted in his daughters' deaths. Gill was resentful of his son due to the incident but was sorry to have found out that Snapper went off. Deep down, he knew that blaming the young dragonet for his own mistakes was wrong and maybe one day, after his grief had subsided, he would apologize to Turtle.ToPp This sadly never went into fruition as Gill had died before he could tell his son.ToP

However, in Talons of Power, Gill is shown to have a more violent side (perhaps triggered by the stress of losing his daughters, but this is unproven). When he sends Turtle to find Snapper, he waits with Abalone, who is getting even sicker. He gets angrier and angrier while waiting for Turtle, but he finally leaves the SeaWing Royal Hatchery to get Abalone help. After he returns with the healers, Abalone is found unconscious (because of the tumor burst) along with the two female eggs. He roars in fury and orders the other SeaWings in the hall to get Turtle. Gill finds Turtle and grabs him by the wing, telling the prince that he was disappointed in him for failing to find Snapper on time. Though he does have a pang of guilt while punishing Turtle, he does not relent his anger while scolding him.

It is later shown that he forgave Turtle because Snapper was not even in the Deep Sea Palace that day, (but sadly Gill got captured by the SkyWings before he could tell Turtle) showing that Gill can sometimes, although rarely, jump to conclusions.

"But he refused to fight. We heard about it, through our spies. He convinced each of his opponents to lie down and refuse to fight along with him. He has — had a way with words. No one who met him would be able to kill him."
Coral to Tsunami about Gill, The Lost Heir

Gill was an adult male SeaWing who was introduced in The Dragonet Prophecy. Before being captured by the SkyWings during the War of SandWing Succession, he ruled as the SeaWing king for some time alongside his wife, Queen Coral. After being deprived of water for months in the Sky Kingdom to make him go mentally and physically insane, he was killed by Tsunami, his daughter, during a battle in the SkyWing arena.

Description

Gill had pea-green scales[2] and brave[3] dark green eyes.[4] He was large,[3][5] twice as big as Tsunami,[4] and wore golden bands around his ankles.[5]

Personality

Gill was charming and moved neatly.[6] He smiled often[7] and was intent on brokering peace during the War of SandWing Succession.[8] When he was captured by Scarlet, he refused to fight within the SkyWing arena and convinced each of his opponents to lie down and refuse to fight along with him.[3] He had a way with words, as Coral said, and according to Coral, no one who met him would be able to kill him.[9] However, after being deprived of water for months, his sanity had long deserted him.[3]

Biography

Pre-Series
King Gill led the SeaWing army in the War of SandWing Succession for a short period due to Queen Coral's commitment to keeping Anemone's egg safe, refusing to leave it in the Royal Hatchery. During one mission, he was captured and brought to Queen Scarlet's arena. He refused to fight for her amusement and attempted to start a prisoner revolution. For this, he was deprived of any drinking water for months, driving him to insanity, biting himself and drinking his own blood in his crazed state.

The Dragonet Prophecy

The Dragonet Prophecy
Gill was pitted against Tsunami after Scarlet had captured the dragonets of destiny, and was showing them off to Burn to celebrate her hatching day. He was punished after trying to start a prison revolution and stop all the dragons from fighting each other in the arena. Due to Queen Scarlet taking away his water for months, Gill had gone insane due to dehydration. Tsunami had no choice but to fight him. She had defeated Gill without killing him, but it caused Queen Scarlet to mock her. In retaliation, she snapped his neck, glaring at Scarlet with an expression that said, "I'm imagining this is you." For all of her time in the Sky Kingdom, Tsunami did not know that Gill was her father.
The Lost Heir
During the council's breakfast meeting, Tsunami mentioned that she and her friends were captured and held in Scarlet's arena, which caused Coral to leap out of her pool and ask if Tsunami had seen a SeaWing named Gill while she was there. Tsunami said that she did see Gill, and Coral wondered if it was the right time to enact a rescue plan that the council had created, but Tsunami told her that Gill was killed in the arena. Coral wondered why he would fight, saying that he would have simply talked the other dragons out of attacking. Tsunami then explained that Gill had been punished for doing so and that Scarlet had taken away all his water until he became extremely dehydrated, which had driven him mad. Tsunami asks why she is so troubled by this and Coral then told Tsunami that he was her father, overwhelming her with guilt. Coral was extremely saddened after the death of Gill and dismissed her council that day to mourn this death. Tsunami also mentioned that she thought Shark had guessed the truth. Tsunami felt extremely guilty for killing Gill, both before and after learning he was her father. Blister also knew Tsunami had killed King Gill, threatening to reveal this to Queen Coral if the dragonets attempted to leave.
The Dark Secret
When Starflight entered Tsunami's dream with a dreamvisitor, he saw her strangling the skeleton shape of Gill. Anemone then arrived, and Tsunami tried explaining that she had no choice in killing their father. Anemone then strangled Gill herself while Tsunami was trying to hold her back. That was when Starflight decided to exit her nightmare and find another dragon's dream.
The Brightest Night
In the epilogue, Tsunami mentioned Gill as one of the dragons who had never gotten to see the end of the war.

The Jade Mountain Prophecy

Talons of Power

In the prologue, Gill went to check on Abalone, who was guarding the eggs in the SeaWing Royal Hatchery, but Abalone had fallen ill and was growing worse. He had a strange, rapidly growing tumor on his neck. Gill then swam into the courtyard of the Deep Palace to ask for help, and he found Turtle with his hatchmates, Cerulean and Octopus. Turtle volunteered to help and tried to get Snapper. After he sent Turtle to find Snapper, he waited with Abalone, who was getting even sicker. He got angrier and angrier while waiting for Turtle, but he finally left the Royal Hatchery to get Abalone help. After he returned with the healers, Abalone was found unconscious with the two broken female eggs. Gill went into a rage and found Turtle being made fun of by his brothers in the garden. He was angry with Turtle and scolded him fiercely. Gill then left to talk to Coral, who had both Abalone and Snapper executed. Grieving over their lost daughters, Queen Coral decided to name their next daughter Anemone.

It was later revealed that he forgave Turtle because Snapper was not even in the Deep Palace that day, but Gill got captured by the SkyWings before he could tell Turtle.

Winglets

Assassin
King Gill met with Blister when deciding what move to make next in the war. He tried to talk everyone into peace although he failed. After news of Tempest's assassination reached him, he was shown grieving while still trying to keep the peace among the infuriated dragons around him.

Relationships

Abalone was a good friend of Gill. He had been specifically chosen by Gill to guard the SeaWing Royal Hatchery and was one of the king's most loyal soldiers.[1] When he was inflicted with a growing tumor, Gill sought help quickly for him. When Abalone fainted in agony, Gill desperately asked for a healer first instead of protecting Coral's eggs. When Coral found out that the eggs were eventually destroyed, she ordered execution upon Abalone, which Gill strongly disagreed with.[1]

Gill once said he would do anything for Coral.[1] It was also stated that he adored Coral's writing.[10] When Coral spoke about him, a smile flickered across her snout,[9] and she further stated how important he was.[3] Her voice became hollow when she learned of his death,[9] and she immediately took time to grieve for him.[11] Gill was extremely loyal to Coral.

When Tempest died, he leaned against her side and sobbed[12] until his face was streaked with tears.[13] He was mournful.[14]

He was angry at Turtle for not finding Snapper in time, which resulted in his daughters' deaths. Gill was resentful of his son due to the incident but was sorry to have found out that Snapper went off. Deep down, he knew that blaming the young dragonet for his own mistakes was wrong and maybe one day, after his grief had subsided, he would apologize to Turtle.[1] This sadly never went into fruition as Gill had died before he could tell his son.[15]
