Princess Anemone is a female SeaWing animus dragonet. She is the middle living daughter of Queen Coral and the deceased King Gill, and a direct descendant of Fathom. She was described in The Lost Heir to have pale blue scales with hints of pink around them, like the inside of a seashell. Enchanted by Prince Turtle at the Talons of Power ceremony to be imbued with animus magic, she is technically a "false" animus dragon, since her powers aren't genetic. Due to Queen Coral's overprotective nature, Anemone had always been attached to her mother by a rubbery harness that grew with her as she aged. After persuading Coral to allow Anemone to attend Jade Mountain Academy as part of the the Silver Winglet, she was then detached from her harness and free to go wherever she pleased. While she was still residing in the Deep Palace, Anemone was usually regal and quiet, sitting by Coral's side with her chin held high. Described by Turtle,"She seemed funny and happy most of the time, but there was a dark streak to some of her jokes, along with the impervious certainty that she was more important than any of the dragons around her."

Anemone's scales were described to be a pale blue, almost white color, with hints of pink along her wings, ears, and horns, like the inside of seashellsTLH. Her large blue eyes and scale color reminded Tsunami of the dolphins she and her friends saw on the way to the Deep Palace, making her wonder if that was the reason it was illegal to hunt them, in case some dragon accidentally ate Anemone instead. In The Lost Heir, she also wore a harness made of a clear, stretchy material that attached her to Queen Coral. However, upon arrival at Jade Mountain Academy, the harness was removed. Anemone also usually wears a few strands of pearls around her neck, similar to how her mother does. On the cover of Talons of Power, she wears a silver earring, possibly enchanted by herself or by Darkstalker.

Anemone is a female SeaWing dragonet princess who was introduced in The Lost Heir. She is the daughter of Queen Coral and King Gill. She was enchanted by her brother Turtle during the Talons of Power ceremony to become an animus. She currently attends Jade Mountain Academy as a member of the Silver Winglet and is in a relationship with Tamarin.

Description
Anemone has pale blueTLH and white-pink scales, like the inside of a shell,MR with hints of light pink along her wings, ears, and horns, resembling the dolphins that live in the Kingdom of the Sea.TLH She has pearly,TLH tiny,TLH pale,TLH pink-tintedTLH wings with patterns of webbed talonprints patterning her underside.TLH She wears a bracelet of pale pink pearls around one of her wrists, enchanted to keep her from feeling superior and also to keep her soul healthy.DoD She has a clear, high-pitched voice,MR and is small, from afar appearing a pale,TLH odd,DoD whitish-pinkish-blue-grayDoD dragon. She also has large, light blue eyesTLHDoD and tiny, light talonprints.EP She is slightly smaller than TurtleToP and about the same size as Kinkajou.ToP

Personality
Personality
Despite being smart and funny, Anemone is also very selfish. She tends to believe the world revolves around her, and becomes even more self-centered when she uses her animus powers. Because of the way her mother values her, Anemone often believes she is the most important dragonet in Pyrrhia, and that every dragon should follow her commands. Anemone cares deeply for her family and seems to be cheerful most of the time, but she does get very annoyed with Queen Coral and her overprotective antics. Near the end of Talons of Power, it is unclear whether or not her perilious actions are caused by her need to prove herself to Darkstalker, because of a possible overuse of her animus powers, or because of a spell Darkstalker may have cast.
Anemone is logical,TLH prim,TLH snooty, delicate, and regal.DoD She is often huffy,DoD haughty,DoD bossy,DoD fierce,DoD she enjoys disobeying orders,DoD and is somewhat impulsive.DoD After being released from her harness, she took on a more stubborn and petulant personality,ToP although she had always been somewhat of a brat towards other dragons.DoD At the academy, she was usually funny and happy; though, her jokes usually had darker undertones. She had imperious certainty that she deserved all of her "princess privilege",ToP and she allowed her cave in Jade Mountain Academy to become quite a mess. She is comfortable with casually scattering her jewelry aroundDoD as she is not used to living without servants to clean up for her.DoD She looks at others as though examining them through jeweler's glass, studying all of their flaws, and she is confident about her appearance.DoD She becomes embarrassed when she does not act bravely.DoD

Since Anemone is a princess, she usually expects to get whatever she wants, as seen in Moon Rising when she wanted a giant fish Bigtail was eating in the Prey Center. When Bigtail refused, she made her friend Ostrich leave the Prey Center with her, with neither of them getting something to eat. She is also a bit snobby, although this is understandable, considering she was never allowed to play with other dragonets while in the Deep Palace. She also seems to feel as if nobody but other animus dragons understand her. Contrary to the quiet, regal dragonet shown in The Lost Heir, she acted aggressive and violent at the end of Talons of Power. She tried to beat Moonwatcher with a mop after Darkstalker snapped at her, she ignored Turtle and Tsunami's advice not to trust Darkstalker's "soul-saving" spell, and she tried to hurt/kill Turtle in the ruins of the Island Palace.
While Anemone was proud of her powers, she felt hopeless about her fate, believing that she was destined to go insane.ToP However, the soul reader revealed that Anemone was much more good than Turtle and his friends had feared, and she enchanted a bracelet to further protect herself from her magic. Following the inception of the jewelry, her feelings of superiority and invincibility disappeared, and she has been behaving younger and lighter, and now she often giggles and teases her friends. She even donated half of her treasure to help build Sanctuary.DoD

Peril thought that she seems to be a shower of bright orange sparks on the inside,EP while Tsunami describes her to have Coral's good qualities, but with a stronger ability to think for herself.TLH She was demanding and incessant with Qibli when he borrowed her enchanted weather bracelets.DoD

When Tsunami first arrived in the Sea Kingdom, she was told by Riptide about the young dragonet harnessed to Queen Coral, and interprets her name as an enemy, instead of Anemone, when she first hears it. After her friends are locked away in one of Coral's caves, Tsunami expressed that she wanted to talk to her mother alone, but Coral refused because she must keep Anemone at her side by "watching her every minute", as Anemone stated, clearly irritated.

While her egg was incubating, her mother stayed with it until the day that she hatched. Anemone was tutored by Whirlpool on how to use her magic to help Queen Coral and Blister win the War of SandWing Succession. |content = When Tsunami first arrived in the Kingdom of the Sea, she mistook her sister's name as an enemy instead of Anemone. After her friends were sent away to be locked up in one of Coral's caves, Tsunami expressed that she wanted to talk to her mother alone. Coral sent her guards away, but Tsunami commented on the presence of her younger sister and asked for her to be removed from the conversation as well. The queen refused, as she had to keep the dragonet at her side by "watching her every minute," as Anemone irritably stated.

Later, when their mother was asleep, Anemone explained her harness and why she had to wear it. She told Tsunami that she would probably have to marry Whirlpool, a member of Coral's Royal Advisory. Tsunami was a little surprised that Anemone wanted to talk to her, since they were both candidates for the throne and would probably become rivals in a near future.
Later, when their mother was asleep, Anemone woke Tsunami up so that they could converse. Tsunami was surprised to hear that Anemone wanted to talk to her, since they were both heirs and would likely become rivals at some point, but this worry soon subsided. Anemone elaborated on the purpose her harness had and why she had to wear it. She also told Tsunami that she would probably have to marry Whirlpool, a member of Coral's council.

Tsunami also later saw Anemone practicing her animus magic with Whirlpool, which Queen Coral and Blister want her to use for the war. They called it their "secret weapon," using her powers for their own gain. For instance, Anemone was instructed to move a necklace to the wall and stab a breastplate with a spear. Afterword, she told her sister about the queens' plan to potentially enchant a spear to follow Burn not stop until it killed her. Anemone later used her power to bring Whirlpool, the mysterious assassin, to herself and the dragonets of destiny, and she in turn pushed him into Queen Coral's prison trap- a pool of hungry electric eels. After an agonizing fit of pain, Whirlpool is drawn beneath the waters and killed. This does not seem to bother Anemone, as she turns and helps Tsunami and her friends without further preamble.
Tsunami also later saw Anemone practicing her animus magic with Whirlpool, as Blister and Coral intended to use her to help their side win the war. They referred to Anemone as their "secret weapon," but Anemone later speculated that Whirlpool may have instructed her to "practice" with her animus magic to make her go insane and kill her mother. Later on, Anemone used her powers to enchant a spear to bring them the mysterious SeaWing assassin who had tried to kill Tsunami in the tunnel. The assailant turned out to be Whirlpool, and she used the spear to push him into the pool of electric eels surrounding the dragonets, where he was subsequently electrocuted to death.

When Moon looked at Turtle, she received a vision of the SeaWing prince pinning Anemone to the sand as she writhed in pain. Later, Anemone appeared in the prey center, asking a NightWing named Bigtail for a large fish that he had grabbed. Clay intervened and explained that whoever grabbed the food first gets to eat it, much to Anemone's disapproval. Sighing, she stormed out of the prey center with Ostrich, who was casting woeful hungry looks at the fish behind them. After the tragic explosion in the history cave, Anemone thought angrily that she could have easily solved the mystery if Tsunami had not been so worried about her power.

|content = While Tamarin was staying on the dry stone, Anemone and Pike were swimming in one of Jade Mountain's underground lakes. Turtle, however, dove into the cave from the open roof above, urgently pleading for Anemone to go into hiding, as Darkstalker had escaped his underground prison with unknown intentions. Instead of growing fearful, she jumped in excitement, eager to meet another animus dragon.

Moon Rising
When Darkstalker was being "attacked" by two young NightWing students, Anemone swooped above all of them, demonstrating her power by showing off two beaten copper bracelets that controlled the weather; the sky flashed with unusual flickers of lightning and was full of grey clouds that were heavy with rain. When Tsunami tried to fly up to her sister, Anemone summoned a gust of wind that spiraled Tsunami away from her and held her in place. Darkstalker then invited Anemone to land beside him and talk; they walked into the main entrance cave while the clouds finally released their rain behind them. Later, Darkstalker enchanted a silver necklace that was meant to save her soul from the menacing effects of animus magic.
Anemone is now attending Jade Mountain Academy as part of the Jade Winglet. Moonwatcher first sees her with Queen Coral, Turtle, Auklet, and Tsunami at the entrance of the school. Moon also has a vision of Turtle pinning Anemone to the ground as she writhes in pain. Anemone appears later in the prey center, with Pike and Ostrich, asking Bigtail to hand over a particularly large fish that he had grabbed. She pleads, "That one. It's my very favorite kind. Mother would want me to have it." Unfortunately for Anemone, Clay steps in and states that whoever grabbed the prey first is the rightful owner of that prey. With a huff and a shake of her head, Anemone storms out of the prey cave with Ostrich in tow. Later, after the explosion caused by a dragonflame cactus, Anemone is seen irritably thinking about how easily she could solve the mystery in "two shakes of her tail", but how Tsunami wouldn't let her use her animus powers. She then thinks of her own talons holding a spear, and a dragon disappearing in a cloud of bubbles and slithering green shapes.              ( Whirlpool's death ). When Anemone flew away, she left Moon wondering what the SeaWing princess was capable of.

Winter Turning
Throughout the book, Anemone kept close to Darkstalker. She saw him as a sort of mentor, looking to him for guidance. Darkstalker took this very lightheartedly, taking advantage of her actions and advising her that she should run all her spells by him before she cast them, so he could help her find the best possible enchantment for each spell. She usually sat beside Darkstalker with her chin high, often being an errand runner or helper to Darkstalker.
In the epilogue of Winter Turning, Anemone, Pike, Turtle, and a few other SeaWing dragonets are swimming in one of the underground lakes of Jade Mountain. She is doing flips and dives in the water, full of joy about being free from her mother's harness. She then thinks of how if Coral ever came to Jade Mountain to take Anemone home, then she would have to be under her mother's watch again. With a fierce certainty, Anemone thinks, "But I won't. I won't. I might be the most powerful dragon in the world, and if she didn't learn that from what I did to Whirlpool, I can teach her some other way." Followed by, "The spell on Auklet's harness should keep her away from me, though."

Escaping Peril
When Moonwatcher had a vision of Sunny's father, Stonemover, dead, she, Darkstalker, Turtle, Anemone, and Mindreader quickly went to Stonemover's cave. When they arrived, Stonemover was in a pitiful condition — blood was seeping from his neck, and he was stiller than usual. When Darkstalker frustratedly stated that he would chase down the killer himself if the tunnels were larger, Anemone immediately volunteered. She grabbed a prey bone on the floor and enchanted it to lead her to Stonemover's killer. The dragon brought in was Flame, prodded forward by the same prey bone. After Stonemover begged Darkstalker to take off the healing spell he gave him, Darkstalker sighed and returned his scales to their normal, petrified state. He then turned to Flame, enchanting his library card to turn into a chain that bolted him to the floor as punishment.
It is revealed that Turtle shares Anemone's animus powers, which makes Moon's vision of Turtle attacking Anemone make more sense, because either one of them may go insane in the near future.

Once again, Anemone is seen in the epilogue. She is worried about the earthquake that Darkstalker had caused when he was released. Starflight asks her what the matter is, and she replies in barely a whisper, "It felt like someone slithering over my grave."
When Darkstalker brought up the concept of going to the Rainforest Kingdom to meet his lost tribe, Anemone, along with a few other students from Jade Mountain, agreed to travel with him, including Turtle. There, Anemone irritatedly agreed to Turtle's request for animus magic. When she heard that it was to wake Kinkajou from her coma, Anemone immediately started teasing Turtle for his crush on Kinkajou. At the healer's pavilion, Anemone added a love spell along with the waking spell, enchanting the RainWing so that she would love Turtle as much as he loves her, much to Turtle's dismay.

Talons of Power
Anemone was constantly shown by Darkstalker's side throughout his journey through the Rainforest Kingdom and the lost city of night, often ignoring Turtle's advice on her soul.
Anemone is swimming in one of the underground lakes with Pike, while Tamarin watches from the shore. Turtle dives into the cave from the open roof above, landing beside his sister and urgently pleading with Anemone to talk to him. She replies with, "You are talking to me, fishface. Can't you just say whatever it is right here? Pike and Tamarin won't care." In turn, Turtle gives up and warns her about Darkstalker in front of her friends. Once Turtle admits that Darkstalker is an animus, she jumps up in excitement, much to Turtle's dismay. After a short argument, Anemone then eagerly heads back to the main tunnel that leads back to the school to meet Darkstalker.

When Darkstalker is attacked by Mightyclaws and a few other NightWing dragonets, he quickly calms them down and then starts conversing with Sunny about her heritage. Unexpectedly, Anemone then swoops above their heads in the sky, demonstrating her animus powers with two beaten copper bracelets she enchanted to control the weather. When Darkstalker states that Anemone was "just the dragon I was looking for," she is delighted. When Tsunami, shocked, asks Anemone what she was doing, she tries to fly up to her sister. However, Anemone summons a gust of wind that spirals Tsunami away from her. After talking for a brief moment with Darkstalker when she is still aloft, she also states to Tsunami that, "Oh, I know you love me. Plenty of dragons love me. But understanding me . . . see, that takes another animus." When Darkstalker invites Anemone to come down to the ground and talk, she agrees, walking into the main entrance cave with the vast NightWing.
She also quickly grew jealous of Darkstalker's focus on Moonwatcher, wanting the attention to herself instead. In the lost city of night, Anemone asked Darkstalker where she got to stay. He replied that she got to stay in Fathom's room, which had dried and rotted over the years, while Moon got to stay anywhere she wanted. Anemone then forcefully tried distracting Darkstalker in order to make Moon clean Fathom's room, though Darkstalker intervened to accuse her that she was no different from her ancestor after all. Anemone was dismayed, deciding to fly back home in attempt to murder her mother, as Darkstalker had ordered.

Darkstalker then convinces Anemone to let him enchant something for her: a necklace from her treasury box, enchanted to protect her soul from the effects of animus magic forever.
Turtle followed her, and she went back to the Island Palace. There, Turtle has a flashback where it was revealed that he made her an animus to hide his identity. Back in reality, Anemone searched for something that Whirlpool had left for her, which turned out to be a dagger. She darkly suggested using it to kill off any threats, such as Coral, Auklet, Tsunami, Moon, and Kinkajou. Turtle attacked her, as she seemed to have lost her soul. Moon's vision of Turtle pinning down Anemone finally came true — an animus battle ensued, both using their powers to overcome the other. Finally, Turtle enchanted seaweed to bind Anemone's mouth, preventing her from casting any more spells. They had a conversation where Turtle told Anemone that he made her an animus, and Anemone said that she felt herself becoming evil. However, Darkstalker, with the help of the spell that told him animus magic was being used, casted a spell that brought every current animus dragon in Pyrrhia to his throne room. There, Darkstalker suggested using Anemone and Stonemover to test his theories about animus magic, and he mentioned that not too many more spells would turn Anemone completely evil. When Kinkajou was summoned and Darkstalker's attention was on her, Turtle gave Anemone his hiding stick and told her to fly away as fast as she could. Turtle threw the stick at her, and Anemone caught it, jumping out the window.

She denied stealing the stick by scowling at him, and he asked her why she could not talk. He then discovered a spell put on her by Darkstalker. After she put on the enchanted earring Qibli offered her, she expressed immense relief after realizing the spell no longer affected her. After Anemone reluctantly allowed Qibli to continue wearing her enchanted weather bracelets, the trio took off towards the Night Kingdom. On their way there, Anemone took the time to explain what had happened since she last saw Winter and Qibli. After they entered the palace through Anemone's room, Qibli prompted Anemone to take a nap, which she reluctantly accepted.

Throughout Talons of Power, Anemone keeps close to Darkstalker. She sees him as a sort of mentor, looking to him for guidance. Darkstalker took this very lightheartedly, taking advantage of her actions and advising her that she should run all her spells by him before she casts them, so he can help her find the best possible enchantment for each spell. She usually sits beside Darkstalker with her chin high, often being an errand runner or helper to Darkstalker.
Anemone reappeared again after Qibli and Winter's fight and offered a piece of skyfire to Moonwatcher. Anemone stated that she was going to rescue Turtle, which enraged Kinkajou and the both of them left to free Turtle. Qibli later found Anemone and Kinkajou in Turtle's prison cell, where they had gotten themselves trapped with Turtle by accident. After they freed Turtle and convinced him to take one of Qibli's enchanted earrings, they all took off towards Jade Mountain.

When Moonwatcher has a vision of Sunny's father, Stonemover, dead, she, Darkstalker, Turtle, Anemone, and Mindreader quickly go to Stonemover's cave. When they arrive, Stonemover is in pitiful condition- blood is seeping from his neck, and he is stiller than usual. When Darkstalker frustratedly states that he would chase down the killer himself if the tunnels were larger, Anemone immediately volunteers. She grabs a prey bone on the floor and enchants it to lead her to Stonemover's killer. The dragonet brought in was Flame, prodded froward by the same prey bone. After Stonemover begs Darkstalker to take off the healing spell he gave him, Darkstalker sighed and returned his scales to their normal, petrified state. He then turns to Flame, enchanting his library card to turn into a chain that bolted him to the floor as punishment.
During the battle of the NightWings and IceWings, she enchanted a piece of moss to make the NightWings think Darkstalker was telling them to retreat. When this plan failed, she enchanted Qibli's library card, at Qibli's suggestion, to make all of the NightWings and IceWings hear each other's thoughts and be teleported back to their respective kingdoms. During this, she also removed the love spell she had put on Kinkajou.

When Darkstalker brings up the concept of going to the Rainforest Kingdom to meet his lost tribe, Anemone, along with a few other students from Jade Mountain travel with him, including Turtle.
In the epilogue, it was revealed that Anemone had romantic feelings for another student, Tamarin, often leaving flowers and gifts and offering to read scrolls to her. It was also revealed that she cast a soul spell on herself, with help from Qibli, to relieve the feelings of superiority and selfishness that went along with having animus power, as well as to protect her soul from the effects of using animus magic.

|content = Anemone was mentioned in Coral's letter to Starflight at the beginning of the SeaWing chapter. In his letter to Turtle, Fin recalled how Turtle was worried about the possibility of Anemone becoming evil from her animus magic and had sent their brothers away from the Deep Palace to the Outer Isles for their safety. Later in the chapter, Anemone's letter to Tamarin testing out the new braille system Starflight made was featured.

Turtle follows her, and she goes to the Island Palace. There, Turtle has a flashback where it is revealed that he made her an animus to hide his identity. Back in reality, Anemone is searching for something that Whirlpool left for her, which turns out to be a dagger. She darkly suggests using it to kill off any threats, such as Coral, Auklet, Tsunami, Moon, and Kinkajou. Turtle attacks her, as she seems to be going crazy, and Moon's vision of Turtle pinning down Anemone comes true. An animus battle ensues, both using their powers to overcome the other. Finally, Turtle enchants seaweed to cover Anemone's mouth, not letting her make any more spells. They have a conversation where Turtle tells Anemone that he made her an animus, and Anemone says that she feels herself becoming evil. However, Darkstalker, with the help of the spell that tells him the location where animus power is being used, casts a spell that brings every animus dragon in all the tribes to his throne room. There, Darkstalker suggests using her and Stonemover to test his theories about animus magic, and he mentions that not too many more spells will turn Anemone completely evil. Then, when Kinkajou is summoned and Darkstalker's attention is on her, Turtle gives Anemone his hiding stick and tells her to fly away as fast as she can. Turtle throws his stick at her, and Anemone catches it and jumps out the window.
Later in the SandWing chapter, Anemone was mentioned by Sunny in her list of Burn's collection, thinking that Turtle or Anemone could help identify the creatures from Burn's fish tank.

Qibli and Winter, after leaving Thorn's palace, discover Anemone resting by an oasis while flying over the desert. Winter is wary of her since the last time they saw her was with Darkstalker, and she may still very be a devoted follower to him, but Qibli decides to talk to her anyway because she is alone. When Qibli approaches her, he quickly realizes that she can't speak. He sees that she is holding Turtle's stick, and he accuses her of stealing it. She denies stealing the stick by scowling at him, and he asks her why she can't talk. He then discovers a spell put on her by Darkstalker. After she puts on the enchanted earring, she wants to go back to the Nightwing  kingdom to kill Darkstalker. At the kingdom, her and Kinkajou start fighting about who gets to kill Darkstalker. Later at the battle of the Nightwings and Icewings, she enchants a piece of moss to make the Nightwings think Darkstalker is telling them to retreat. She later enchants Qibli's library card from Jade Mountain Academy to make all the Nightwings and Icewings hear each others thoughts and be teleported to the center of their kingdom. During this, she also removes the love spell she put on Kinkajou. In the epilogue it is revealed Anenome has feelings for a blind Rainwing student named Tamarin, often leaving flowers, gifts, and offering to read her scrolls. It is also revealed that she cast a soul spell on her self, with help from Qibli, to relieve the feelings of superiority and selfishness that went along with having animus power, as well as protecting her soul.
Coral
Anemone considers her upbringing to have been awful, as she thinks of Coral as crazily protective. She hates her harnessTLH and mentioned that Coral cares for her too much, as she was not allowed to play with other dragonets her age because of her royal status, including her brothers, who Coral said "played too rough."TLH When Anemone once complained about her harness, Coral nearly got her a muzzle to match her harness, a statement that Anemone recalled with a stab of venom in her voice. Although Coral loves her,TLH is proudTLH and affectionateTLH towards her, and stayed by Anemone's egg until she hatched to ensure her safety,TLH Anemone is nervous to go against her mother's wishes.DoD

Darkstalker
Darkstalker acted as a mentor to Anemone,ToP and she originally thought of him as being wonderful and all-knowing.DoD He encouraged her to use her magic, but restricted her to only use it with his permission. Due to her rebellious personality and hatred of Moonwatcher, he eventually sent her off to the Kingdom of the Sea and suggested she kill her mother.ToP When she and the other animus dragons of Pyrrhia were summoned to Darkstalker, he affirmed his view of her as a tool by suggesting he could run tests on her and Stonemover to learn more about animus limits, even suggesting driving her insane.ToP Darkstalker secretly hated SeaWings, specifically the royal SeaWing family, because of their ties to Fathom.DoD When speaking of Darkstalker during the Battle of Jade Mountain, her eyes had a dangerous gleam.DoD

Relationships
Kinkajou
Tsunami
Kinkajou dislikes the thought of accepting help from Anemone,DoD and she is often angry with her. Anemone is quite annoyed by Kinkajou.DoD Anemone believed she was helping Turtle with the love spell and called Kinkajou "ungrateful" for not accepting it.DoD Nonetheless, Anemone decided to take the love spell off of Kinkajou anyway.DoD
Tsunami is Anemone's older sister. Initially, one might have interpreted her as suspicious of Tsunami, but later on, they became good friends despite the difference in their ages, and grew to love each other as sisters. Throughout The Lost Heir, she acts as a close friend of Tsunami's and does not seem scared a bit of Tsunami, despite their age difference. However, she is completely ready to kill Tsunami in Talons of Power.

Queen Coral
Pike
Attached by an elastic harness at all times, Anemone loves her mother, but despises her overbearing parenting style and wished that she could explore on her own. Queen Coral is overprotective of her, fearing that she would be killed before she had a chance to challenge her for the throne. Queen Coral actually kept guard over Anemone's egg for an entire year, never allowing Orca's statue to destroy her egg. In Moon Rising, both Anemone and Tsunami were annoyed when Coral wanted to see everything inside of the school. Anemone, in The Lost Heir, seemingly hated her mother. She complained about how she was on a harness at all times, about how she had to go through her lessons with Whirlpool, and other things. However, in Moon Rising, she uses the excuse 'Mother would want me to have it' to try to get the fish from Bigtail, showing that she may hold some affection for Coral, or she may have just been stuck-up and trying to cheat Bigtail out of his fish.
Coral appointed him as Anemone's bodyguard, which she was unaware of. She was not surprised that he did whatever she said, thinking that everyone should act that way towards a princess. She gets quite exasperated with his overprotectiveness, often telling him to keep quiet or leave her alone. She even snuck out when he was asleep, not caring about how much that would worry him. Anemone is teasing towards him.DoD

Whirlpool
Tamarin
Whirlpool held training sessions with her to practical usage of her animus abilities as well as teaching her the SeaWing language Aquatic. However, she placed little effort in them and tried to act as if she was failing, at Tsunami's suggestion, to stall until the time that Blister would use her as a secret weapon to win the war.
Anemone has a crush on Tamarin. She casually shows up everywhere Tamarin is, offering to read her scrolls and leaving her small gifts of flowers or unusual fruit.DoD Before animus magic broke, Anemone was working on a spell to restore Tamarin's eyesight.THQp The two go on gardening dates together.AGttDW

Queen Coral seems to think Whirlpool would make a good king for one of her daughters, but Anemone hates the idea of marrying him and Tsunami is not very fond of it either.
Tsunami
Tsunami is Anemone's older sister. At first, Tsunami was suspicious of Anemone, but they soon became good friends and grew to love each other as sisters. Anemone trusted Tsunami to save her from being forced to use her animus magic by Blister and Coral. Her face became pale and anxious after realizing that Tsunami might be in danger,TLH and she edged closer to her sister when she felt anxious.TLH The thought of having to leave Anemone made Tsunami upset.TLH

Anemone used her powers to discover who had tried to kill Tsunami and, upon finding it to be Whirlpool, accidentally knocked him senseless into the moat with electric eels. The eels shocked Whirlpool and most likely killed him, though this has neither been proven nor disproven. In Moon Rising, she was shown feeling guilty about it.
Turtle
Before the Talons of Power ceremony, Turtle had only ever seen his sister from a distance. During the ceremony, he enchanted Anemone to become an animus to draw attention to her and away from his own animus abilities so he could keep his secret hidden, and to fulfill the biggest hopes of his mother.ToP He ended up regretting this greatly afterward. Upon going to the Academy, they began to spend more time together, but Anemone still treated him like another subject to order around. She finally started paying attention to him when he began following her and Darkstalker around, but the attention was not positive. After their duel in the ruins of the Island Palace, and Turtle hiding her from Darkstalker, he began to regard her more as his younger sister who he should protect, and she seems to respect him as an older brother. She once referred to him as a doofus,DoD but he is reassuring and kind towards her,DoD and she is willing to listen to and react to how he feels.DoD

Pike
Whirlpool
Pike is shown to be incredibly loyal to her and constantly showering her with affection. This is shown when Anemone wanted the fish that Bigtail was about to eat by supporting Anemone and telling Bigtail to give the fish to her. Queen Coral appointed him as Anemone's bodyguard, a fact she doesn't know. However, she isn't surprised that he does whatever she says, instead of thinking that everyone should act that way towards a princess. She also gets quite exasperated with his over-protectiveness, often telling him to keep quiet or leave her alone. She even snuck out when he was asleep, not caring about how much that would worry him. In truth, she doesn't care for Pike at all besides just a loyal guard. On the day of the Talons of Power tested, Pike looked like he wanted to help Anemone, but wasn't sure he was allowed to.
Whirlpool was patronizing towards Anemone,TLH and she glared at him before intentionally causing him trouble. She regarded him as awfulTLH and was happy that Tsunami came, at the prospect of Tsunami marrying Whirlpool instead of her.TLH After Anemone killed Whirlpool, she saw him all the time: in her dreams, on the faces of strange dragons, practically everywhere.ToP

Auklet
Family tree
Auklet is Anemone's youngest sister. Anemone doesn't seem to be particularly jealous of her, but rather grateful that she doesn't have to be harnessed to her own mother as much. Anemone has even mentioned possibly using her powers to help Auklet with her harness attached to their mother. They have played together and seem to get along well, but Anemone was perfectly willing to kill her in Talons of Power. However, this is only because Anemone may have been enchanted to do so by Darkstalker.

Prince Turtle
Known Enchantments
Turtle is Anemone's older brother, but she doesn't interact with him much until Talons of Power. When she does, she calls him boring several times, not knowing he's an animus. She was elated when he came back to Jade Mountain and is shown to have some affection for him. He was the one who enchanted her to be an animus. When she discovered that, she was so enraged she tried to kill him in a duel between animus dragons. That said, she does make up with him later. In Darkness of Dragons, she shows a strong desire to save him, arguing with Kinkajou about who would save him. When he is rescued, she is ashamed of hurting him. Later on in the book, when everything is carnage, she calls for him, and Turtle protects her when Darkstalker attempts to kill her.

In Talons of Power, she first didn't think much of Moon, but as the story goes along, she grows jealous of her catching Darkstalker's attention all the time. Anemone wanted to be the only special dragon wanting to be Darkstalker's 'apprentice', not knowing that Darkstalker has a grudge against the SeaWings after what Fathom did to him. Her hatred grows and finally expresses her loathing towards Moon by enchanting some pebbles in the room where Fathom once stayed in the old Night Palace to turn into a mop and enchanted it to hit Moon until she cleans the place up or until Anemone says it's done. Darkstalker acts as a mentor to Anemone. Her first reaction to his return is joy at meeting another animus, rather than fear like Turtle expected. She is delighted to have someone understand her, and they form a bond, where Darkstalker helps her enchant objects to protect their sanity. He encourages her to use her magic but tries restricting her to only use them with his permission. Due to her naturally rebellious personality and hatred of Moonwatcher, he eventually sends her off to the Kingdom of the Sea. |phrase8  = Phrasing unknown.
*An anemone is a sedentary marine coelenterate with a columnar body that bears a ring of stinging tentacles around the mouth to catch prey which is anything that gets caught in its tentacles.
|target8  = Auklet's harness
*Because of Albatross being part IceWing, Anemone is of IceWing descent.
|intent8  = To keep Coral away from her.
*In The Lost Heir, she was described as pale blue with hints of pink, but in Moon Rising, she was said to be white-pink.
|book8    = WTe
*Anemone is an animus, currently one of the only twelve known, the other eleven being Stonemover, Princess Orca, Prince Albatross, King Darkstalker, Prince Fathom, Prince Arctic, Frostbite, Queen Diamond, Penguin, Jerboa, and Prince Turtle. However, she is the only known dragon to not be a natural-born animus, as Prince Turtle enchanted her to be one so he didn't have to be noticed.
*Anemone may have done something to Auklet's harness that attaches her to Coral, as hinted in the epilogue of Winter Turning.
*Anemone's use of her animus powers might also be why she is a lot more stuck up in Moon Rising than in The Lost Heir as well as being a princess and finally being off her harness for the first time.
*It said in The Lost Heir that Anemone tried complaining about the harness once, and Queen Coral "almost got her a gag in order to match the harness."
*In Moon Rising and Winter Turning, she appears to have become way more self-centered and stuck up than she was in The Lost Heir. This could be her getting older/being let off the harness, or from overuse of animus powers.
*Her statement "It felt like someone slithering over my grave" in Escaping Peril was a reference to the human phrase "walking over my grave", which is a feeling of shivers down your spine that is said to mean someone in the future is literally walking over your grave. More on this phrase here
*Her statement in Escaping Peril is also similar to a phrase by Indigo in Darkstalker (Legends), "someone swimming over her grave". This may have something to do with Darkstalker, as he imprisoned Indigo and told Anemone to kill her family.
*Anemone may have killed Whirlpool in the process of getting the Dragonets of Destiny free from the SeaWing prison, and in Talons of Power, she seems to have no more guilt about it, although she is having flashbacks of him dying and the eels swimming towards him in her head.
*Moonwatcher had a vision of Turtle fighting with Anemone, which turns out to take place 3 books later. That would make Anemone the first known dragon we see to be involved in a vision.
*On the cover of Talons of Power, Anemone and Turtle are fighting
*Anemone is the third character to appear on the back cover of a book that is not the PoV. The other two are Prince Turtle (who is the PoV of the book she shows up in) and Ex-Queen Scarlet.
*Anemone is the only known partly pink SeaWing.
*Darkstalker mentions that Anemone is Fathom's granddaughter eight generations apart.
*Anemone has a crush on Tamarin, making her the fourth canonically LGBT+ character.
*It was confirmed that she no longer has feelings of invincibility in DoD
*Being a royal SeaWing, she should and does have the starburst patterns on her wings, but this is not shown on the back of ToP.

— Anemone to Tsunami about the price of animus magic, The Lost Heir

Anemone is a female SeaWing dragonet princess who was introduced in The Lost Heir. She is the daughter of Queen Coral and King Gill. She was enchanted by her brother Turtle during the Talons of Power ceremony to become an animus. She currently attends Jade Mountain Academy as a member of the Silver Winglet and is in a relationship with Tamarin.

Description

Anemone has pale blue[3] and white-pink scales, like the inside of a shell,[4] with hints of light pink along her wings, ears, and horns, resembling the dolphins that live in the Kingdom of the Sea.[3] She has pearly,[5] tiny,[6] pale,[7] pink-tinted[8] wings with patterns of webbed talonprints patterning her underside.[9] She wears a bracelet of pale pink pearls around one of her wrists, enchanted to keep her from feeling superior and also to keep her soul healthy.[10] She has a clear, high-pitched voice,[11] and is small, from afar appearing a pale,[12] odd,[13] whitish-pinkish-blue-gray[14] dragon. She also has large, light blue eyes[3][15] and tiny, light talonprints.[16] She is slightly smaller than Turtle[17] and about the same size as Kinkajou.[18]

Personality

Anemone is logical,[19] prim,[20] snooty, delicate, and regal.[21] She is often huffy,[22] haughty,[23] bossy,[24] fierce,[25] she enjoys disobeying orders,[14] and is somewhat impulsive.[25] After being released from her harness, she took on a more stubborn and petulant personality,[26] although she had always been somewhat of a brat towards other dragons.[27] At the academy, she was usually funny and happy; though, her jokes usually had darker undertones. She had imperious certainty that she deserved all of her "princess privilege",[28] and she allowed her cave in Jade Mountain Academy to become quite a mess. She is comfortable with casually scattering her jewelry around[29] as she is not used to living without servants to clean up for her.[30] She looks at others as though examining them through jeweler's glass, studying all of their flaws, and she is confident about her appearance.[31] She becomes embarrassed when she does not act bravely.[32]

While Anemone was proud of her powers, she felt hopeless about her fate, believing that she was destined to go insane.[33] However, the soul reader revealed that Anemone was much more good than Turtle and his friends had feared, and she enchanted a bracelet to further protect herself from her magic. Following the inception of the jewelry, her feelings of superiority and invincibility disappeared, and she has been behaving younger and lighter, and now she often giggles and teases her friends. She even donated half of her treasure to help build Sanctuary.[10]

Peril thought that she seems to be a shower of bright orange sparks on the inside,[34] while Tsunami describes her to have Coral's good qualities, but with a stronger ability to think for herself.[35] She was demanding and incessant with Qibli when he borrowed her enchanted weather bracelets.[15]

Biography

Pre-Series
Anemone grew up in the Kingdom of the Sea, where she was tied to Queen Coral with a harness that prevented her from going anywhere on her own. While her egg was incubating, her mother stayed with it until the day that she hatched. Anemone was tutored by Whirlpool on how to use her magic to help Queen Coral and Blister win the War of SandWing Succession. Blister wanted to use Anemone's magic to kill Burn in order to make the war easier to win.

The Dragonet Prophecy

The Lost Heir
When Tsunami first arrived in the Kingdom of the Sea, she mistook her sister's name as an enemy instead of Anemone.
Anemone using animus magic

Later, when their mother was asleep, Anemone woke Tsunami up so that they could converse. Tsunami was surprised to hear that Anemone wanted to talk to her, since they were both heirs and would likely become rivals at some point, but this worry soon subsided. Anemone elaborated on the purpose her harness had and why she had to wear it. She also told Tsunami that she would probably have to marry Whirlpool, a member of Coral's council.

Tsunami also later saw Anemone practicing her animus magic with Whirlpool, as Blister and Coral intended to use her to help their side win the war.
Anemone killing Whirlpool
They referred to Anemone as their "secret weapon," but Anemone later speculated that Whirlpool may have instructed her to "practice" with her animus magic to make her go insane and kill her mother. Later on, Anemone used her powers to enchant a spear to bring them the mysterious SeaWing assassin who had tried to kill Tsunami in the tunnel. The assailant turned out to be Whirlpool, and she used the spear to push him into the pool of electric eels surrounding the dragonets, where he was subsequently electrocuted to death.
The Hidden Kingdom
When Glory first discovered the NightWing tunnels and that they were created with animus magic, she thought back to Anemone in the Kingdom of the Sea, and the danger of being an animus dragon.
The Dark Secret
When Starflight dreamvisited Tsunami, he witnessed a nightmare of Anemone attacking Gill.
The Brightest Night
While discussing plans on how to stop the war, Starflight suggested using animus magic, mentioning Blister's plan to use Anemone. Tsunami snapped at Starflight and stated that they were not going to make Anemone use any more animus magic. Tsunami later mentioned that she wanted to dreamvisit Anemone and some other SeaWings. In the epilogue, when the dragonets were discussing who should attend their new school, Tsunami suggested that Anemone and Auklet could attend as students.

The Jade Mountain Prophecy

Moon Rising
Anemone had convinced her mother to allow her to attend Jade Mountain Academy as part of the Silver Winglet. Moonwatcher first saw Anemone arriving at the academy with Turtle, Tsunami, Coral, and Auklet.
Winter Turning
In the epilogue, Anemone, Pike, Turtle, and a few other SeaWing dragonets were swimming in one of the underground lakes of Jade Mountain. She was doing flips and diving in the water, enjoying being free of her harness. She thought of how, if Coral ever came to Jade Mountain to take her home, she would have to be under her mother's watch again. With a fierce certainty, Anemone thought, "But I won't. I won't. I might be the most powerful dragon in the world, and if she didn't learn that from what I did to Whirlpool, I can teach her some other way." Followed by, "The spell on Auklet's harness should keep her away from me, though."
Escaping Peril
In the epilogue, she was worried about the earthquake that Darkstalker had caused when he was released. When Starflight asked her what was wrong, she replied in barely a whisper that "it felt like someone slithering over my grave."
Talons of Power

While Tamarin was staying on the dry stone, Anemone and Pike were swimming in one of Jade Mountain's underground lakes. Turtle, however, dove into the cave from the open roof above, urgently pleading for Anemone to go into hiding, as Darkstalker had escaped his underground prison with unknown intentions. Instead of growing fearful, she jumped in excitement, eager to meet another animus dragon.

Anemone was constantly shown by Darkstalker's side throughout his journey through the Rainforest Kingdom and the lost city of night, often ignoring Turtle's advice on her soul.

Darkness of Dragons

Qibli and Winter, after leaving Thorn's palace, discovered Anemone resting by an oasis while flying over the desert. Winter was wary of her, as the last time they had seen her she was with Darkstalker. Qibli decided to talk to her anyway, as she was by herself. When Qibli approached her, he quickly realized that she could not speak. He then noticed that she was holding Turtle's stick and he accused her of stealing it.

The Lost Continent Prophecy

The Hive Queen
In the prologue, Anemone was mentioned by Turtle, where he stated that she was working on a spell for Tamarin to restore her sight. She and Turtle had started comparing notes, as Turtle was also working on a similar spell for Starflight. She had spoken to Turtle and told him that the spell did not work, and she had not known why.
The Poison Jungle
Jerboa III mentioned that animus magic was not working for her or any other animus dragons in Pyrrhia, which included Anemone.
The Dangerous Gift
Anemone was indirectly mentioned by Tsunami when she told Sundew that Pyrrhia had four animus dragons. She also briefly appeared in Snowfall's vision as Jerboa III, when Jerboa III was brought into Darkstalker's throne room. Jerboa III had seen two SeaWings there: Anemone and Turtle.

A Guide to the Dragon World

Anemone was mentioned in Coral's letter to Starflight at the beginning of the SeaWing chapter.

Later in the SandWing chapter, Anemone was mentioned by Sunny in her list of Burn's collection, thinking that Turtle or Anemone could help identify the creatures from Burn's fish tank.

Relationships

Anemone considers her upbringing to have been awful, as she thinks of Coral as crazily protective. She hates her harness[36] and mentioned that Coral cares for her too much, as she was not allowed to play with other dragonets her age because of her royal status, including her brothers, who Coral said "played too rough."[2] When Anemone once complained about her harness, Coral nearly got her a muzzle to match her harness, a statement that Anemone recalled with a stab of venom in her voice. Although Coral loves her,[37] is proud[38] and affectionate[39] towards her, and stayed by Anemone's egg until she hatched to ensure her safety,[6] Anemone is nervous to go against her mother's wishes.[14]

Darkstalker acted as a mentor to Anemone,[40] and she originally thought of him as being wonderful and all-knowing.[23] He encouraged her to use her magic, but restricted her to only use it with his permission. Due to her rebellious personality and hatred of Moonwatcher, he eventually sent her off to the Kingdom of the Sea and suggested she kill her mother.[41] When she and the other animus dragons of Pyrrhia were summoned to Darkstalker, he affirmed his view of her as a tool by suggesting he could run tests on her and Stonemover to learn more about animus limits, even suggesting driving her insane.[42] Darkstalker secretly hated SeaWings, specifically the royal SeaWing family, because of their ties to Fathom.[25] When speaking of Darkstalker during the Battle of Jade Mountain, her eyes had a dangerous gleam.[32]

Kinkajou dislikes the thought of accepting help from Anemone,[43] and she is often angry with her. Anemone is quite annoyed by Kinkajou.[44] Anemone believed she was helping Turtle with the love spell and called Kinkajou "ungrateful" for not accepting it.[45] Nonetheless, Anemone decided to take the love spell off of Kinkajou anyway.[46]

Anemone is teasing towards him.[10]

Anemone has a crush on Tamarin. She casually shows up everywhere Tamarin is, offering to read her scrolls and leaving her small gifts of flowers or unusual fruit.[47] Before animus magic broke, Anemone was working on a spell to restore Tamarin's eyesight.[48] The two go on gardening dates together.[49]

Tsunami is Anemone's older sister. At first, Tsunami was suspicious of Anemone, but they soon became good friends and grew to love each other as sisters. Anemone trusted Tsunami to save her from being forced to use her animus magic by Blister and Coral. Her face became pale and anxious after realizing that Tsunami might be in danger,[50] and she edged closer to her sister when she felt anxious.[51] The thought of having to leave Anemone made Tsunami upset.[19]

Before the Talons of Power ceremony, Turtle had only ever seen his sister from a distance. During the ceremony, he enchanted Anemone to become an animus to draw attention to her and away from his own animus abilities so he could keep his secret hidden, and to fulfill the biggest hopes of his mother.[52] He ended up regretting this greatly afterward. She once referred to him as a doofus,[53] but he is reassuring and kind towards her,[45] and she is willing to listen to and react to how he feels.[46]

Whirlpool was patronizing towards Anemone,[38] and she glared at him before intentionally causing him trouble. She regarded him as awful[54] and was happy that Tsunami came, at the prospect of Tsunami marrying Whirlpool instead of her.[37] After Anemone killed Whirlpool, she saw him all the time: in her dreams, on the faces of strange dragons, practically everywhere.[33]

Quotes

"Maybe you can make her less crazy. Or maybe she'll set me free now that she has you. Maybe you could talk to her. I need to get out of this harness. Tsunami, you have no idea how awful my life has been."
― to Tsunami, about Coral (The Lost Heir, page 102)

"She cares about me way too much. I never get to do anything except whatever she's doing. At least you have friends. I never even see any other dragonets."
― to Tsunami, about Coral (The Lost Heir, page 103)

"According to Blister, I should be able to enchant the Sky Kingdom's palace to cave in on all the SkyWings. She also wants me to curse a spear so it will search for Burn's heart and not stop until it kills her. I don't know for sure if I can do any of that. I'm scared to try. I don't want to try. Every time an animus dragon uses her power, she loses a bit of herself. Albatross was a prince and a hero at first, but they didn't know about the price of animus magic then. Building the pavilion turned him evil. I don't want that to happen to me."
― to Tsunami (The Lost Heir, page 208-209)

"I had a nightmare. And then something woke me. Didn't you feel it? Something that shook the earth. It felt like something slithering over my grave."
― to Starflight (Escaping Peril, page 287-288)

"Whirlpool wanted to be king pretty badly. I think he was trying to shape me into a darker dragon by making me cast all those 'practice' spells. He wanted me to go evil and try for the throne. He told me he'd hidden a perfect weapon here, ready for whenever I needed it — for whenever I wanted to challenge Mother. I think it'll work fine on little sisters, too, don't you? And big ones, for that matter."
― to Turtle, about Whirlpool (Talons of Power, page 262-263)

"I won't make Orca's mistakes. I'll enchant this thing right now to be a perfect killing machine. It'll never miss. It'll go straight for Mother's throat first. Then Auklet, Tsunami, you ... Moon. Maybe Kinkajou, too. Why not? He did say anyone who gets in my way."
― to Turtle (Talons of Power, page 263)

"You? You're nobody! I'm the SeaWing animus!"
― to Turtle (Talons of Power, page 264)

"No! It's my power! You can't just take it; you can't just say it's yours! You did not create me!"
― to Turtle, after he confirms that he enchanted her to have animus powers (Talons of Power, page 264)

"You didn't make me and you can't stop me! I can still kill her! I can kill her with my bare claws! I can kill her with anything! I can make daggers out of seashells; I can poison the drops of water around her snout! I can enchant her pearls to choke her or her stupid narwhal horn to stab her in the heart!"
― to Turtle (Talons of Power, page 264-265)

"It won't work. It's already too late for me. Ever since Whirlpool died, I see him all the time — in my dreams, in the faces of strange dragons, everywhere. I keep seeing those eels going after him. I see all the dragons I've hurt. Now Moon's there, too, and I hate what I did to her but I also feel proud of it. Isn't that twisted? Whatever soul I had, it's long gone, so protecting it wouldn't be much use."
― to Turtle (Talons of Power, page 272)

"But then what would I be? Animus dragons are rare and special. I like knowing that I'm powerful. I want to be that powerful. Who would give away their own magic like that? I'm just ... scared of it, too."
― to Turtle (Talons of Power, page 273)

"I think he's smart. He knew right away not to trust you. He knew there was something seriously wrong with you. You think everything you do is right. You think you're so perfect that you don't even care about the dragons around you. You're the only one who gets to decide what happens to everyone else."
― to Darkstalker, about Turtle (Talons of Power, page 278)

"Really I hope Mother is queen for a long long time, and I hope that I get to stay at Jade Mountain Academy for a long long time. I just want to be myself and make my own decisions and have a normal dragonet life for a while."
― to Tamarin (A Guide to the Dragon World, page 57)

Trivia

 • The reason why Queen Coral forbids the consumption of dolphins is said to be because she thinks they might be somewhat related to dragons.[70] However, Tsunami wonders if it is actually because Anemone has the same coloring as the dolphins.[3]
 • Anemone is not leucistic, but is rather just one of the lighter shades of possible SeaWing pigmentations.[event 1]
 • Anemone feels physically cold after using her animus magic.[71]
 • In The Lost Heir, Anemone said it was an accident and she did not mean to hit Whirlpool, but in Talons of Power, she said she did it on purpose.[72]
 • On the Talons of Power cover, Anemone is depicted without the royal SeaWing wing patterns.[73]
 • Anemone's favorite fish is gray with a pale pink specked belly.[11]
