Pyrrhia, also known as the Distant Kingdoms by the dragons of Pantala, is the sole setting of the Wings of Fire series during the first ten books, as well as the main setting of the Legends and Winglets books. It is one of the two known continents, with the other being Pantala. Pyrrhia has highly varied geographical regions, listed as the Ice Kingdom, the Kingdom of Sand, the Sky Kingdom, the Mud Kingdom, the Rainforest Kingdom, the Kingdom of the Sea, and the Night Kingdom, which had been located on an unknown volcanic island north of the Sky Kingdom. The island is now uninhabited after the volcano erupted, forcing the NightWing tribe to relocate to the Rainforest Kingdom. There is also the Old Night Kingdom, also known as the lost city of night, located on a peninsula southwest of the Kingdom of Sand. During the time of Darkstalker, this peninsula used to be larger, forming the "claw" of Pyrrhia. The scavengers who live on Pyrrhia have their villages, or to dragons, dens, including Valor, Talisman, and the Indestructible City.

Description
A large mountain range runs roughly down the center of the entire continent, named the Claws of the Clouds Mountains, where the dragonets of destiny were hatched and raised. This is part of the SkyWings' territory and separates the eastern and western halves of Pyrrhia, and is presumably also responsible for the drastic weather differences on the continent. The largest mountain in the range used to be Agate Mountain; now it is Jade Mountain.
Pyrrhia is a dragon-shaped continent composed of several different biomes. A large mountain range, the Claws of the Clouds Mountains, runs through the center of Pyrrhia, from the "wing" of Pyrrhia down to its "belly". The largest mountain in the range was formerly Agate Mountain,L1 but after it was destroyed by an avalanche approximately 2000 years ago,L1 Jade Mountain is now considered the largest.

The Ice Kingdom is dominated by the tundra's ice lands, snow shelves, and glaciers. Due to the sub-zero temperatures, no dragons other than IceWings can live there, unless visitors wear the gift of diplomacy, an IceWing gift that allows the wearer perfect body temperature.

The Kingdom of Sand is made of rolling dunes and cacti. The heat and lack of humidity are almost unbearable to dragons other than SandWings, except RainWings, who enjoy the sunlight.
The Ice Kingdom forms the "head" of Pyrrhia. Its terrain primarily consists of snowy and icy tundras,TDGW4q and it is well known for its sub-zero temperatures and freezing winds.WT Due to the cold temperatures, it is extremely difficult for dragons other than IceWings to live there. The land between the Ice Kingdom and the Kingdom of Sand is a barren wastelandEP that is highly contested territory between the two tribes.TDG

The Mud Kingdom is populated with swamplands, reeds, and tends to be very humid. Along the Mud Kingdoms' northern border is the Diamond Spray River, which meets up with the ocean at the Diamond Spray Delta.
The lost city of night was located on the Talon Peninsula of Pyrrhia. It was characterized by vast canyons and ravines.L1 Caverns and caves were carved into the rock.L1 The city was surrounded by a range of sharp-edged mountains known to the IceWings as Darkstalker's Teeth.DoD It was abandoned by the NightWings in fear of Darkstalker's return.EP who fled to live on the island. Over time, the peninsula sank into the sea, and shrunk due to earthquakes,DoD  avalanches,DoD  tidal waves,DoD  and Darkstalker's magic. It was briefly inhabited by Darkstalker and some NightWings in Talons of Power and Darkness of Dragons but was later re-abandoned. In the modern period, it is full of ruined and unstable structures, including an abandoned theater.AGttDW Constructed around the ruins of the old city is Renewal, a settlement led by Fierceteeth.

The Rainforest Kingdom is comprised of an endless tangle of vines and trees. Every tribe other than the RainWings and NightWings find the jungle plants and insects annoying and difficult to navigate through.
The Kingdom of Sand makes up the "chest" or southwestern portion of Pyrrhia. It is characterized by its vast,L1 scorchingEP desert landscape and rolling dunes.W3q The terrain is flatL2 and adorned with numerous oasesEP and oasis towns.L1ToPe The desert is also home to the Great Five-Tail River, which historically was a highly disputed territory between the SandWings and SkyWings.WT The dragon settlement of Possibility is located along the river.

At the extreme east of the continent where chains of islands form the dragon's tail is the Kingdom of the Sea, also known as the Bay of a Thousand Scales.
The Kingdom of the Sea forms the "tail" of Pyrrhia. It is primarily made up of small islands, forming the archipelago known as the Bay of a Thousand Scales. It is characterized by vast stretches of ocean,TLH featuring landforms such as white beaches,TLH coral reefs,TLH and kelp forests.TLH

Pyrrhia appears to be placed in two hemispheres, as rainforests form solely near the equator of a planet where the climate is warm and humid, with the Ice Kingdom and the northern Sky Kingdom being in the colder northern hemisphere.
The Mud Kingdom makes up the "back" of Pyrrhia. Its terrain primarily consists of a vast, marshy wetland,L2 with stretches of grasslandTDP scattered with trees.TDP Along the Mud Kingdom's northern border is the Diamond Spray River, which feeds into the Diamond Spray Delta.

There are three rivers with known names: the Diamond Spray River, the Great Five-Tail River, and the Winding Tail River.
The Rainforest Kingdom forms the "hind leg" or southeastern section of Pyrrhia. It is characterized by its giant trees,WT  vibrant flowers,THK tangles of vines,WT and thick canopies of leaves.WT  After the Exodus, the village was constructed within the kingdom to serve as the NightWing tribe's new home.

Two thousand years ago, the old Night Kingdom existed on the Talon Peninsula. The final queen, Queen Vigilance, abandoned it due to urging from Clearsight and Listener. Over time, it significantly shrank due to Darkstalker's magic.
The Sky Kingdom forms the "wing" of Pyrrhia. It is characterized by cliffs,WT mountains,WT rivers,WT lakes,WT forests,WT and valleys.WT The mountains, most notably the Claws of the Clouds Mountains, are often shrouded in mist.EP It is separated from the Mud Kingdom by the Winding Tail River. The dragon settlement of Sanctuary is located within the Sky Kingdom, in the foothills of the Claws of the Clouds Mountains.DoDe Numerous scavenger dens are located in the Sky Kingdom, including the Indestructible City and Talisman.

* Kingdom of Sand
The current queen of the IceWings is Queen Snowfall, as Glacier died from the plague caused by Darkstalker as revenge against the IceWings. The Ice Kingdom is located on the northern peninsula of Pyrrhia and is the "head" of the continent. It is extremely cold and barren, so Blaze stayed on the southern end of the kingdom to remain near a warmer region. The Ice Kingdom's dungeon is said to be so cold that prisoners from any other tribe would freeze to death, making it so that they could never keep long-term prisoners from other tribes. Icebergs and ice floes are not uncommon in the nearby ocean.

The Kingdom of Sand was once ruled by Queen Oasis. Her death, caused by three scavengers Heath, Stone, and Rose, sparked a nineteen-year long war between the rival sisters, Burn, Blister, and Blaze. This war became known as the infamous War of SandWing Succession. They are no longer disputing over who will be the next ruler of the SandWings as Thorn, Sunny's mother and former leader of the Outclaws, is now queen. Out of the three rival sisters, only Blaze is left alive since the events of The Brightest Night. This kingdom is comprised of the desert in the west and tundra on the borders of IceWing territory. To Darkstalker's voiced dismay, the SandWings had the most treasure before the scavengers robbed them of the majority of it.

* Agate Mountain
Composed of a tight spiral of islands known as the Bay of a Thousand Scales, the Kingdom of the Sea is primarily underwater. Queen Coral is the current ruler, while the current and only heirs to the throne are Tsunami, Auklet, and Anemone, though Moray could have been an heir as Coral's niece. The Summer Palace, constructed by Albatross with the help of Fathom, located on one of the kingdom's many islands. The Deep Palace is constructed far underwater, some miles away from the surface. As of The Lost Heir, however, the Summer Palace was invaded and destroyed by Burn's forces. In Darkstalker, the Island Palace, where the SeaWings used to gather above water for negotiations with other tribes, was abandoned due to the Royal SeaWing Massacre. The SeaWings now use it for the Talons of Power ceremony, a testing system for finding out if SeaWing dragonets are animus dragons.

* Indestructible City
The Mud Kingdom is the southeasternmost kingdom, next to the Kingdom of the Sea. It extends all the way from the Diamond Spray Delta in the north to the Claws of the Clouds Mountains to the west, the Rainforest towards the south, and the ocean in the east. The current queen is Moorhen, who resides by the shore of the largest lake in the southern swamps of the Mud Kingdom. The lower born MudWings live on the outskirts, closer to the Diamond Spray Delta. The Indestructible City, a notable scavenger den, is located nearby. The closer to the center of the kingdom, the higher the status is of the rankings.
* Safe Harbor: Safe Harbor was a scavenger den that was destroyed by Blister.

* Scavenger Temple: The scavenger temple was a hidden temple with two missing walls located in the forest near Valor.

* Valor
The NightWing island is located in north Pyrrhia; it was described as a volcanic island in the middle of the ocean. There is but one large building on this island, a stone fortress where Queen Battlewinner lived before she froze to death. The NightWings had moved to the volcano more than two thousand years ago in fear that there could be another dragon like Darkstalker, so they moved somewhere without moonlight. Many years later, Stonemover granted the NightWings access from the island to mainland by enchanting a tunnel leading to the rainforest. However, the island is in ruins after the eruption of the volcano. The NightWings are now under the reign of Queen Glory, living in the rainforest.
** Ruins of Valor: The ruins of Valor, also known as the scavenger ruins to dragons, are the remains of the old village of Valor, found on the border of the Kingdom of Sand and Jade Mountain.

Rainforest Kingdom
The rainforest was once ruled by several different queens. Glory became queen in The Hidden Kingdom, and does not share the throne. After the eruption at the NightWing island, Princess Greatness agreed to Glory ruling her tribe in exchange for the NightWings being able to live in the rainforest. The rainforest is located in the lower portion of the continent, just southwest of the Mud Kingdom, and south of the Kingdom of the Sea. It does not have a huge palace like most tribes do, but instead has a Royal Pavilion that is in between the village and the area where the other RainWings live. The Rainforest Kingdom has one prison, created by Darkstalker in Talons of Power, and use tranquilizers, or once even quicksand, to contain their prisoners.

Sky Kingdom
The Sky Kingdom was notorious for its arena and harsh practices during Ex-Queen Scarlet's reign. It is in political upheaval at the time of The Hidden Kingdom, when Scarlet was hit by Glory's venom in the face and held captive by Burn. Scarlet's daughter, Ruby, then held the throne. For a while, Scarlet resided in one of the mountains, near a lake before eventually trying to take back the throne, being challenged to a duel for the throne by Queen Ruby. The kingdom is located in the northern peaks of the Claws of the Clouds Mountains and stretches down to the south of Pyrrhia. Its current ruler is Queen Ruby.

Landforms
Agate Mountain
Agate Mountain is a large mountain in the Sky Kingdom, where Darkstalker was trapped for over two millennia.L1 It was the tallest mountain on Pyrrhia before a landslide, caused by an earthquake, reduced its size.L1

Claws of the Clouds Mountains
Darkstalker's Teeth
Darkstalker's Teeth are a range of mountains located in the southwestern region of Pyrrhia, on the peninsula of the Lost city of night. The mountain range was enchanted by Darkstalker to kill any IceWings flying across; this spell causes other dragons flying above it to feel a buzzing shock.ToPL1

Diamond Spray Delta
The Diamond Spray Delta is a wetland that serves as the border between the Sky and Mud Kingdoms. It is located on the east coast of Pyrrhia, connected to the Claws of the Clouds mountains by the Diamond Spray River, and empties out into the Kingdom of the Sea. The delta serves as the home for the lowest born MudWings in the Mud Kingdom.TDP

Diamond Spray River
The Diamond Spray River originates in the foothills below Queen Ruby's palace, and flows down the east coast of Pyrrhia, connecting to the Diamond Spray Delta. The dragonets of destiny used this river to hide and travel while escaping the Sky Kingdom.

Great Five-Tail River
The Great Five-Tail River, or the Great River, is a vast, branching body of blue-green-brown water, spanning the middle of Pyrrhia. It divides the SandWing and SkyWing kingdoms and flows through the Claws of the Clouds Mountains, feeding into the Diamond Spray Delta.

This territory was contested by the SkyWings and SandWings for centuries, but remains unclaimed by either tribe; Queen Thorn and Queen Ruby are at peace,WT and the river runs through the intertribal city of Possibility.

Jade Mountain
Jade Mountain is currently the tallest mountain in Pyrrhia, boasting two peaks and located in the Sky Kingdom near southern region of Pyrrhia. It is the location of Jade Mountain Academy, housing Stonemover, and was the site of the Battle of Jade Mountain.

Winding Tail River
The Winding Tail River is a river located in the southern region of Pyrrhia and is between the Sky and Rainforest kingdoms. It is located in the Sky Kingdom and the river is surrounded by mountains and forests.

Dragon Settlements
Possibility
Possibility is an intertribal city located along the Great Five-Tail River. Originally, there was a SandWing city on the west side and a SkyWing city on the east side, but during the War of SandWing Succession, the two cities merged into one.

Sanctuary
Sanctuary is an intertribal city named by Winter and Riptide located in the foothills of the Claws of the Clouds mountain range beside a cold lake. It is very similar to Possibility and was built by the Talons of Peace, upon gaining permission from Queen Ruby. The queens of Pyrrhia met here to discuss the existence of Pantala.

Human settlements
Indestructible City
The Indestructible City is a famous human settlement located in the western region of the Mud Kingdom. It is supposedly the biggest in Pyrrhia and is not hidden away. It has fortified stone walls, hence its name.

Ruins of Valor
The ruins of Valor, also known as the scavenger ruins to dragons, are the remains of the old village of Valor, found on the border of the Kingdom of Sand and Jade Mountain.

Safe Harbor
Safe Harbor is supposedly a generic scavenger den, and was destroyed by Blister.

Scavenger Temple
The scavenger temple is a hidden temple with two missing walls located in the forest near Valor.

Talisman
Talisman is located in the mountains south of the palace and close to the Diamond Spray River. The dragonmancers used to run the village before Wren exposed their secrets and forced them to step down from power.

Valor
Valor is an underground human settlement located near the Claws of the Clouds mountains. The city stretches for miles and is connected through several tunnels.

Pyrrhia, also known as the Distant Kingdoms by the dragons of Pantala, is the sole setting of the Wings of Fire series during the first ten books, as well as the main setting of the Legends and Winglets books. Pyrrhia is a large continent with highly varied biomes, including the Ice Kingdom, the Kingdom of Sand, the Sky Kingdom, the Mud Kingdom, the Rainforest Kingdom, the Kingdom of the Sea, and the NightWing island. The Old NightWing Kingdom was located on a peninsula southwest of the Kingdom of Sand. During the time of Darkstalker, this peninsula used to be larger, forming the "claw" of Pyrrhia. The humans who inhabit Pyrrhia live in human settlements.

Description

Pyrrhia is a dragon-shaped continent composed of several different biomes. A large mountain range, the Claws of the Clouds Mountains, runs through the center of Pyrrhia, from the "wing" of Pyrrhia down to its "belly". The largest mountain in the range was formerly Agate Mountain,[1] but after it was destroyed by an avalanche approximately 2000 years ago,[2] Jade Mountain is now considered the largest.

The Ice Kingdom forms the "head" of Pyrrhia. Its terrain primarily consists of snowy and icy tundras,[3][4] and it is well known for its sub-zero temperatures and freezing winds.[5] Due to the cold temperatures, it is extremely difficult for dragons other than IceWings to live there. The land between the Ice Kingdom and the Kingdom of Sand is a barren wasteland[6] that is highly contested territory between the two tribes.[7]

The lost city of night was located on the Talon Peninsula of Pyrrhia. It was characterized by vast canyons and ravines.[8] Caverns and caves were carved into the rock.[9] The city was surrounded by a range of sharp-edged mountains known to the IceWings as Darkstalker's Teeth.[10] It was abandoned by the NightWings in fear of Darkstalker's return.[11] who fled to live on the NightWing island. Over time, the peninsula sank into the sea, and shrunk due to earthquakes,[12] avalanches,[12] tidal waves,[12] and Darkstalker's magic.[event 1] It was briefly inhabited by Darkstalker and some NightWings in Talons of Power and Darkness of Dragons but was later re-abandoned. In the modern period, it is full of ruined and unstable structures, including an abandoned theater.[13] Constructed around the ruins of the old city is Renewal, a settlement led by Fierceteeth.

The Kingdom of Sand makes up the "chest" or southwestern portion of Pyrrhia. It is characterized by its vast,[14] scorching[15] desert landscape and rolling dunes.[16] The terrain is flat[17] and adorned with numerous oases[18] and oasis towns.[19][20] The desert is also home to the Great Five-Tail River, which historically was a highly disputed territory between the SandWings and SkyWings.[21] The dragon settlement of Possibility is located along the river.

The Kingdom of the Sea forms the "tail" of Pyrrhia. It is primarily made up of small islands, forming the archipelago known as the Bay of a Thousand Scales. It is characterized by vast stretches of ocean,[22] featuring landforms such as white beaches,[23] coral reefs,[24] and kelp forests.[25]

The Mud Kingdom makes up the "back" of Pyrrhia. Its terrain primarily consists of a vast, marshy wetland,[26] with stretches of grassland[27] scattered with trees.[28] Along the Mud Kingdom's northern border is the Diamond Spray River, which feeds into the Diamond Spray Delta.

The Rainforest Kingdom forms the "hind leg" or southeastern section of Pyrrhia. It is characterized by its giant trees,[29] vibrant flowers,[30] tangles of vines,[29] and thick canopies of leaves.[29] After the NightWing Exodus, the NightWing village was constructed within the kingdom to serve as the NightWing tribe's new home.

The Sky Kingdom forms the "wing" of Pyrrhia. It is characterized by cliffs,[31] mountains,[32] rivers,[32] lakes,[33] forests,[32] and valleys.[34] The mountains, most notably the Claws of the Clouds Mountains, are often shrouded in mist.[35] It is separated from the Mud Kingdom by the Winding Tail River. The dragon settlement of Sanctuary is located within the Sky Kingdom, in the foothills of the Claws of the Clouds Mountains.[36] Numerous scavenger dens are located in the Sky Kingdom, including the Indestructible City and Talisman.
