Summary

The truth is a powerful weapon.

Growing up in the hives, Cricket has always had a million questions. Why are trees forbidden, even in art? Why do her parents seem to hate her? And the biggest, most dangerous and secret question of all: why is Cricket immune to Queen Wasp’s powers? Whenever the queen takes control of all the HiveWings, speaking through their mouths and seeing through their eyes, Cricket has to hide, terrified of being discovered.

Now she's hiding again, wanted for stealing the Book of Clearsight along with her new SilkWing friends, Blue and Swordtail, and the fierce LeafWing, Sundew. The fugitives need answers, and fast, in order to prevent a LeafWing attack. But Cricket has more questions than ever. How can she stay hidden and discover the queen's deadliest secret? And if she does succeed -- can a powerless dragonet really do anything to topple a regime and stop a war?

Epilogue

Tsunami and Turtle are swimming in a murky stream in a jungle in Pantala (most likely the Poison Jungle). Tsunami whispers to Turtle that what they did probably wasn't a good idea. They are whispering because they feel like the jungle is watching them. As they walk along, they see tangled-looking trees that seemed to be reaching towards them with their roots and skeletal-looking branches in the water. They were previously walking on sand at the bottom of the stream, but they quickly walk into oozing mud. They can't see anything through the silt and foggy green haze in the river. As they continue swimming, the river banks begin to close in and the jutting rocks get sharper. Tsunami pauses and treads water for a moment, and then turns in a circle. Tsunami then sees something enormously long and scaly break through the water, and Tsunami readies her claws, prepared to be attacked. Tsunami then sees a snake's head appear out of the water, and it studies them for a moment before it swims away. Turtle doesn't see it. He is clutching onto a boulder, catching his breath. Tsunami then thinks about the long journey they had taken through the sea to Pantala. Tsunami then tells Turtle that they should go back and find a different place to land, and Turtle says that it should be a place with no trees as Luna described. Tsunami then says that Luna may have meant terrifying trees instead of just trees as Tsunami looks at her surroundings. An unknown voice with an odd accent and sense of authority from the riverbank tells them not to move or to speak. The voice then counts, waiting for something, and then what the voice belongs to lunges into the snake in the water before it strikes Tsunami. The dragon and the snake fight in the water, kicking up violent waves, and Tsunami closes her eyes to avoid them. When the river went still, Tsunami opens her eyes to see a green dragon with brown eyes hovering overhead, clutching the dead snake in her talons. The book then describes the other dragon as a LeafWing, but doesn't say directly that it is a LeafWing. Turtle then thanks the LeafWing, and Tsunami does the same, bewildered. The LeafWing flings the dead snake back into the river, and asks what kind of dragons they are. Tsunami then tells the LeafWing that her and Turtle are both SeaWings, and that they are from the other side of the ocean. The LeafWing introduces herself as Willow, and tells them that if they want to live, they should go back to where they came from.

Moon finds Luna sitting on the farthest edge of the beach, staring out toward Pantala while the water laps at her claws. Luna twists around when she sees Moon approaching, and is startled by the grim look in Moon's eyes. Luna then thinks that Moon only has two emotions she presents on her face: Perfectly serene, or mildly concerned. Luna asks if Moon is having a vision, and Moon says it is a vision, and that the vision was of cities burning, dragons hurting one another, more dragons being terrible just because other dragons are different from them, just like all of her other visions. She then stops for a moment and rubs her forehead. Luna then asks if the vision means that they're going to Pantala, or if Moon has thought of a way to get there. Moon then says no, and then looks out at Pantala. Luna then imagines that she can see the flames and screaming dragons that Moon saw in her visions. Moon then says that they don't need to find a way to get there, because the dragons of Pantala are coming to Pyrrhia.
