Pantalan was the original language spoken by the residents on the continent of Pantala. It appears to be based on Latin in some aspects (such as "Luna", meaning "moon" for Pantala's residents), as well as most words being based off of plant parts. The language is not used in present Pantala. Clearsight taught the Pantalan dragons how to speak Dragon. They might use the language for naming, such as Luna's name is "moon" in Pantalan.

History

In the prologue of The Lost Continent, Clearsight met Sunstreak and a male LeafWing. The LeafWing spoke in the Old Language. In The Hive Queen, Luna mentioned to Moonwatcher that her name means "moon" in the Old Language, but is now a type of moth. Later in the book, Lady Scarab mentioned the Old Language while telling Cricket the history of her tribe and her family.

Trivia

  • This is the third language in the books, the first being Dragon and the second being Aquatic.
  • It appears to be based on Latin, Spanish, or Italian in some respects because Luna also means Moon in those three languages.
  • When dragons spoke The Old Language on Pantala, the language "Dragon" was said to be spoken "some little" and to be "much old" by Sunstreak. Clearsight then wonders if Pantala and Pyrrhia had more contact in the past.
