Malachite

Malachite is a male HiveWing who is the father of Cricket according to Lady Scarab. He was Lady Scarab's secretary when she was the Minister of Education. He currently works for Queen Wasp who is constantly mind controlling him.

Biography

The Hive Queen

Lady Scarab and Cricket are talking about what could allow Queen Wasp to mind-control the HiveWings when Cricket brings up her theory that one of her parents could be a SilkWing. Scarab tells her that this is impossible, because Scarab knew both of Cricket's parents and they were both "HiveWings through and through, zombie eyes and all." Cricket asks who they are, so Scarab tells her that Katydid is her mother before producing a small painting of Malachite. Cricket asks who he is, and Lady Scarab tells her that it was her own fault that Cricket's parents had to hide her, as Queen Wasp forbade Malachite's marriage to Katydid. Scarab continues that Malachite now works for Wasp, who likes to "parade him past me whenever she can", always under mind-control.

• Malachite is a type of gemstone and a type of beetle.
• Malachite is the only known HiveWing that's directly named after a gemstone.
• He is the fourth dragon known to us to wear glasses, the other three being Cricket, Lady Scarab, and Thoughtful.
