"Oh, that monster. […] Your face! That was so worth it. I'm just kidding, little black dragon. I don't know anything about any dead MudWings, but I do know we don't have any monsters here."
— Liana to Starflight when asked about a “monster”, The Hidden Kingdom

Liana is a female RainWing who was introduced in The Hidden Kingdom. She was one of the first RainWings, alongside Jambu, whom Glory and Starflight encountered after Clay, Tsunami, Webs, and Sunny were tranquillized with RainWing sleeping darts. She currently resides within the Rainforest Kingdom.

Description

Liana's scales are normally dark blue with dapples of gold.[1]

Personality

Liana is rude,[2] lazy,[3] and cheeky.[4] She wrinkled her nose at the thought of spending time on hunting and noted that Glory's scales were "mousy." She expressed surprise and irritation when Glory asked her to define suntime — Glory speculated that the former had hoped to prod more of a reaction after showing off her scales.[5] Liana also laughed when she scared Starflight for fun, stating that it was "so worth it,"[6] showing her cheek and rudeness. When choosing members for the RainWing Royal Challenge, Glory considered Liana for her team but dismissed it as she believed that Liana did not seem like a team player.[7]

Biography

The Dragonet Prophecy

After the dragonets of destiny were taken to the Rainforest Kingdom, Liana informed Glory what the tranquilizer darts were and explained what the concept of suntime was. She was visibly irritated when Glory reacted calmly to not knowing about those things. Glory thought that Liana realized she was stolen from the hatcheries, which led Starflight to figure out that the lack of sunshine in the caves the dragonets of destiny had grown up in had made Glory harsher and grumpier, her scales duller than a typical RainWing's. Liana and the rest of the RainWing group then led the dragonets back to the RainWing village, where suntime began and Liana left. Later, Liana returned to escort the dragonets to Queen Magnificent's room.

During the RainWing Royal Challenge, Glory considered having Liana on her team for the RainWing Royal Challenge, but in the end picked Tamarin instead.

Liana was part of Glory's plan to invade the NightWing Island with their tranquilizers. Liana and Grandeur used the NightWing spears to free the captured RainWings. Liana was then seen completing her task with Grandeur, then they returned to the rainforest before its explosion.

Quotes

"It's easier to meet new dragons this way. We've had a couple of grumpy brown ones stumble in here, and for some reason they start biting us before we can even say hello. This way we get to chat first, while they're still a bit groggy."
― to Glory (The Hidden Kingdom, page 21)

"You can hunt if you want, but really, it's a waste of energy. And it's almost our sun time, so if you must, then do it quietly."
― to Glory (The Hidden Kingdom, page 29)

"It's just your scales. They're so … mousy."
― to Glory (The Hidden Kingdom, page 29)

"The sun recharges our scales while we sleep. It makes us prettier, better at camouflage, smarter, and happier. What could be more important than that?"
― to Glory (The Hidden Kingdom, page 30)

"Oh, that monster. […] Your face! That was so worth it. I'm just kidding, little black dragon. I don't know anything about any dead MudWings, but I do know we don't have any monsters here."
― to Starflight (The Hidden Kingdom, page 32)
