Gharial is a male MudWing who was introduced in The Dangerous Gift. A former soldier under Blaze in the War of SandWing Succession, he is currently in a relationship with Crystal and resides in Sanctuary.

Description

Gharial has brown scales, a flat, square head, and heavy talons. Snowfall describes him as quite ordinary-looking.

The Dangerous Gift

After Snowfall unknowingly attacks Crystal, Gharial charges onto Snowfall to protect her. Snowfall attacks him back, thinking he was trying to assassinate her, severely injuring him with the help of the gift of strength. When Crystal rushes in to check on Gharial, Snowfall figured how the whole reason Crystal disappeared from the Ice Kingdom is because of Gharial. Crystal merely wanted to spend time with him, and did not want to break the oath to her mother, Glacier, to not kill Snowfall.

Gharial is mentioned several times later on in the book when Snowfall remembers how Crystal left the kingdom not because she presumably wanted to assassinate her, but because of her love of Gharial.

Snowfall gave Crystal her permission to marry Gharial if she wanted to. Although Crystal was a little snippy about Snowfall's wording, she was deeply grateful for Snowfall's approval.

Relationships

Crystal

After Snowfall attacked Gharial, Crystal shrieked and pelted after him, crouching beside him and asking if he was all right. He has a moony expression when he looks at her, and they are physically affectionate towards one another. Crystal is in love with him, and after they met during the War of SandWing Succession, she could not stop thinking about him.

Snowfall

Snowfall attacked Gharial upon meeting him, and was surprised to learn about his relationship with Crystal. Eventually, Snowfall gave Crystal her permission to marry Gharial.
