Template:Infobox Queen Battlewinner was the last known queen of the NightWings; the name "Battlewinner" most likely refers to her ability to fight. Her name was a carefully guarded as a secret in the NightWing guide to the other dragon tribes which is featured near the beginning of the novels. The NightWing queen is not mentioned in The Dragonet Prophecy or The Lost Heir except when Queen Scarlet speaks to Morrowseer. She looks through a blocked off wall with dragon eye sized holes in the NightWings meeting room during tribe meetings to make herself seem more mysterious and powerful by keeping herself hidden from her own tribe, to the point where many of the NightWings does not even know what she looks like.

InThe Dark Secret, Starflight and Fatespeaker snuck into Battlewinner's private chambers behind the wall and found that she lived almost full-time in a pool of lava. After Starflight burst out about the scientific impossibility of surviving these conditions, the queen explained more about her reasons for keeping herself hidden. She was on a mission in IceWing territory years ago when she was attacked by an IceWing. She escaped alive, but the IceWing blasted her in the mouth, which should have frozen her from the inside and killed her. The only reason why she didn't die immediately was her ability to breathe fire; her internal fire reservoir counteracted the ice long enough for her to return home and dive into the pool. For this reason, she lives in lava, balancing out with the ice inside her. She was planning to wage war on the RainWings in lava-heated armour designed by Mastermind when she attacked Starflight and Glory, therefore tipping the balance between fire and ice in her body. Despite Mastermind's efforts to save her, she froze to death within seconds.

Appearance

Battlewinner looks like a typical NightWing, but due to the ice inside her body her eyes are tinged with blue, which also covers the entire inside of her mouth (and presumably all her internal organs). Starflight remarked that her teeth 'looked more like icicles than fangs'.
