the prophecy as seen in the book
File:Wings of Fire (book tralier) (remake)

The prophecy was created by a NightWing named Morrowseer before the first book starts. Template:Spoiler In The Dark Secret, it is revealed by Morrowseer that the prophecy is fake, written by him and Queen Battlewinner when the war began. However, this has not been confirmed as true.

The Prophecy

When the war has lasted twenty years...

the dragonets will come.

When the land is soaked in blood and tears...

the dragonets will come.

Find the SeaWing egg of deepest blue.

Wings of night shall come to you.

The largest egg in mountain high

will give to you the wings of sky.

For wings of earth, search through the mud

for an egg the color of dragon blood.

And hidden alone from rival queens,

the SandWing egg awaits unseen.

Of three queens who blister and blaze and burn ,

two shall die and one shall learn

if she bows to a fate that is stronger and higher,

she'll have the power of wings of fire.

Five eggs to hatch on brightest night,

five dragons born to end the fight.

Darkness will rise to bring the light.

The dragonets are coming....

What does this all mean? Well, the first stanza obviously describes when the dragonets of destiny will come. The second stanza tells where to find the eggs. The SeaWing egg was stolen from the SeaWing royal hatchery by Webs, a member of the Talons of Peace. The NightWing egg was brought to the Talons by Morrowseer. The SkyWing egg was being brought to the Talons when the deliverer was captured and killed by Burn and the egg was shattered. The MudWing egg, which was the color of dragon blood, making the dragonet fireproof, was traded for two cows and then taken to the Talons. The SandWing egg was hidden near the Scorpion Den, and then stolen by Dune and taken to the Talons. The third and fourth stanzas depict how the war will end.
