Malachite

Malachite is an adult male HiveWing who was Lady Scarab's secretary when she was the minister of education. According to Lady Scarab, Queen Wasp first forbade Malachite to partner with Katydid, and then took him away to Wasp Hive to work for her. He currently does not know about Cricket's existence. Whenever Lady Scarab sees him, she says Queen Wasp always marches him past her, with glassy eyes, meaning that he is under her mind control.
Appearance
According to Cricket, Malachite has kind eyes, glasses, and scales that are a warm orange color, with spots of black scales here and there. His wings are dark red, and he was holding a book in his portrait.[1]
Biography
After Lady Scarab told Cricket about her true mother, Katydid, she took out an old, dark green book and opened its front cover, revealing a small painting of Malachite. Scarab explained that Malachite was her secretary when she worked as minister of education, and she described him as being "Brilliant, talented, made excellent coffee, full of exciting ideas. The first dragon in years who gave [Scarab] hope for the future of [the HiveWings]."[2] Scarab also mentioned that Queen Wasp has seemingly been mind-controlling Malachite ever since she summoned him to Wasp Hive.
Malachite is mentioned briefly through Inchworm while under Queen Wasp's mind control. When Wasp hears about Cricket's residence, she invites her to come back to see her father, but then threatens her by saying she could kill him as well.

- Spiritually, malachite is sometimes viewed as a stone of balance, abundance, manifestation, and intention.
- A Malachite is also a type of butterfly, meaning Malachite can also be a SilkWing name.
- Malachite is one of the two known HiveWings who share a name with a gemstone, the other being Lady Jewel.
- Malachite is the fourth known dragon to wear glasses, the other three being Cricket, Lady Scarab, and Thoughtful.
- It is likely Malachite is not aware that Cricket is his daughter.
