Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make a new page or category?

If you feel like the wiki would benefit from a new page or category, please read through the "Creating New Content" section of the Editing Guide and discuss your idea with a poweruser before implementing it.

Can I post my fanart here?

Fanart is allowed to be posted in the Creativity category on Discussions or on your profile page, message wall, or Blog. If you did not create a piece of art, please do not upload it to the Wiki unless you are able to properly credit the original artist, and that artist allows their art to be uploaded to other sites. Fanart is not allowed on wiki articles.

Can I post fanfiction here?

Fanfiction belongs on the Fanon Wiki, but it's acceptable here in the Writing category on Discussions.

Can I roleplay here?

Like fanfiction, roleplay generally belongs on the Fanon Wiki, but it is also common here on the Roleplay board, or on chat in private messaging. Please familiarize yourself with the Roleplay Courtesies before joining any roleplays, especially if you don't know the users participating in them.

Can I advertise my stuff here?

Advertisements for on-wiki activities are allowed, but may only be posted on the Ad Thread. Please do not make any advertisements that link to sites other than the wiki.

I'm new to fandoms and their jargon. What do some of these words mean?

  • Canon - official facts from the book, or approved by the author.
  • Fanon - fan-made content such as fanfiction, OCs, and theories.
  • Headcanon - an idea that is not mentioned by the author themselves, but thought of by individuals about the work. Usually smaller in scale than fanon content.
  • Fandom - a group of fans all interested in the same creative work.
  • Ship - A pairing of characters as a couple. Ships are usually referred to with names, such as "Sunlow" being the name for the ship of Sundew and Willow. Ships can be official or fan-created.
  • Shipping - liking two characters as a couple.
  • OTP - The abbreviation for One True Pairing. Someone's favorite ship.
  • OC - The abbreviation for Original Character. A fan-made character.
  • Mary-Sue - an overpowered OC that is so perfect any challenges they face are easily overcome. Generally considered poor form in roleplays.

I saw something that breaks the rules! What should I do?

If the rulebreaking content is a Discussions or message wall post, hover over the dropdown menu on the top right corner of the post. Select "report post", and the moderators will be notified of the post. Note that you cannot explain why you reported a post, so if you would like to give an explanation for your report or report content that is not on Discussions, please contact a poweruser on their wall.

What is a poweruser?

Powerusers are the Wings of Fire Wiki staff. More information can be found on them on the powerusers page.

How do I become a poweruser?

If you wish to make a nomination thread for yourself or another user, please read through our Promotion Guide and ensure the user the nomination thread is about meets all of the guidelines before doing so.

How do I change my username?

The steps to change your username can be found here. Note that you can only change your username once, and you will have to make a new account if you want a different username afterwards.

Can I change how the wiki looks on my computer?

Theme designer Nathia Safira has made alternate wiki themes that are available for the public to use. They can be found here.

I got blocked by a moderator! Is there anything I can do?

If you feel as if your block was unjustified, you may respond to your block message and state why you think your block should be appealed. Do not use your message wall for any other purpose, as this could be considered block evasion.
