Treehopper is an adult male HiveWing who was introduced in The Hive Queen. Formerly Lady Jewel's treasurer at Jewel Hive, he currently lives in the LeafSilk Kingdom with his partner Tau.
Description
Treehopper has dark greenish-black scales with pale orange stripes along his wings, tail, and face. He is plump and worried-looking.[1]
Personality
He seems to be a kinder HiveWing. Despite the risk of a forbidden relationship in the Hives, Treehopper's relationship with Tau is said to be obvious, implying that the couple might not be very secretive. He blames himself when Wasp enters his mind.[2] Tau once said that he would never harm innocent dragons.
Biography
The Lost Continent Prophecy
Treehopper was reading a book before Tau, a SilkWing, approached him. He began a conversation with Tau, the two laughed and their wings brushed occasionally. However, during the conversation he was abruptly taken over by Queen Wasp. Luckily, the queen did not discover their relationship. When he was himself again, he apologized to Tau, who reassured him that it was not his fault.
One of Snowfall's visions were in Tau's point of view. Treehopper was often mentioned, as Tau worried about how Wasp controlled him and could have manipulated him into killing dragons he would never want to kill.
Luna mentioned that Treehopper came to the SilkWing encampments and was looking for Tau and never left.
Relationships
Tau and Treehopper are in a relationship with one another, which was forbidden in the Hives. According to Cinnabar, their feelings for one another are quite obvious. When Treehopper saw Tau, his reaction was described as if "he had just discovered sunlight." According to Cricket they looked very happy when they were together.[2] Tau worries for him and was afraid that Wasp would make him harm dragons he did not want to, during the Jewel Hive evacuation. After he was freed from the othermind, he went looking for Tau in the SilkWing encampment and never left.
