Treehopper is an adult male HiveWing who was introduced in The Hive Queen. He formerly worked as Lady Jewel's treasurer at Jewel Hive and after he defected from the Hives, he went to live in the SilkWing encampment and later the LeafSilk Kingdom with Tau.
Appearance
Treehopper has dark greenish-black scales with pale orange stripes along his wings, tail, and face. He is plump and worried-looking.[1]
Personality
He appears to be a kinder HiveWing. Despite the risk of a forbidden relationship in the Hives, Treehopper's relationship with Tau is said to be obvious, implying that the couple might not be very secretive. He blames himself when Wasp enters his mind.[2]Tau once said that he would never harm innocent dragons.
Biography
The Lost Continent Prophecy
Treehopper was shown reading a book before Tau, a SilkWing, approached him. He began a conversation with Tau, the two laughed and their wings brushed occasionally. However during the conversation, he was abruptly taken over by Queen Wasp. Luckily, the queen did not discover their relationship. When he was himself again, he apologized to Tau, who reassured him that it was not his fault.
One of Snowfall's visions were in Tau's point of view. Treehopper was often mentioned, as Tau worried about how Wasp controls him and could have manipulated him into killing dragons he would never want to kill.
Luna mentioned that Treehopper came to the SilkWing encampments looking for Tau and never left.
Relationships
Tau and Treehopper are a relationship with one another, which is forbidden in the Hives. According to Cinnabar, their feelings for one another are quite obvious. When Treehopper sees Tau, his reaction was described as if "he had just discovered sunlight," showing that he loves her greatly. According to Cricket she would never be able to separate two dragons who looked so happy together,[2] this indicates that Treehopper is happy when Tau is near him. Tau worries for him and is afraid that Wasp would make him harm dragons he would never hurt during Jewel Hive evacuation. After he was freed from the othermind, he went looking for Tau in the SilkWing encampment and never left.
