"Reader, MudWing stories are not usually full of great loves or starry-eyed romance. We leave that to the SeaWings or the SandWings. But I don't mind telling you that I fell quite a bit in love with Olive at that moment."
— Sawgrass about himself and Olive, A Guide to the Dragon World

Sawgrass was an adult male MudWing prince who was featured in A Guide to the Dragon World. He was the author of But Who Shall Wear the Crown? While he was alive, he resided in the MudWing palace.

Personality

Sawgrass described himself as "the brother who worried" and was often concerned about the health of his siblings and himself. He was anxious about the things happening around him and the world outside the palace, but he also cared a lot about his siblings.[1] He was awkward[2] and had trouble socializing his whole life.[3]

Biography

Pre-Series

Sawgrass hatched in the MudWing palace with his other siblings and grew up as a prince with his bigwings, Egret, as the destined heir of the throne. Sawgrass worried a lot about this and was concerned about many things, including his siblings.

After Egret gained the throne by killing their mother in a royal challenge, Sawgrass attempted to convince Egret to have dragonets as soon as possible but she never did. After Copperhead, their brother, ran away with an unnamed RainWing, Sawgrass became more fearful for his sister.

Following the death of Egret and Bayou vanishing, Sawgrass and Possum, his other brother, had to deal with the MudWing Succession Crisis. He was approached by Olive who gave him her eggs to hatch a new queen while Olive took the throne in the meantime.

Field Guides

Sawgrass was featured in the MudWing chapter of the guide as the author of But Who Shall Wear the Crown, a scroll detailing the events of the MudWing Succession Crisis.

Relationships

Sawgrass found Olive to be interesting and claimed that she was the most serene dragon he had ever seen.[4] Even though it was strange for MudWings to experience romance, Sawgrass wrote that he fell in love with Olive. He believed that she was a great queen.[3]
