Orchid was one of the seventeen missing Rainwings featured in The Hidden Kingdom. Mangrove thought of her as his perfect partner. Orchid was lost fruit-gathering with Mangrove, when she was abducted by nightwings to be experimented on. She had been Mangrove's partner, and he realized that not only she was missing. Many other RainWings had been missing. He tried to get Queen Magnificent to do something about it, but she did nothing. He told Glory and she volunteered to look for the missing RainWings. When she too was abducted she found the other RainWings being experimented on in the Night Kingdom. Glory escaped with the help of Kinkajou (one of the other captured rainwings), Clay, and the NightWing Deathbringer. She told the queen about the tortured rainwings, and again the queen made no move to help. At this, Glory was utterly disgusted with RainWing leadership and challenged for the throne. She wins the throne but as she does she learns Starflight has gone to the Night Kingdom. At the time she did not know he had gone unwillingly. Glory begins to assemble an army to recapture the RainWings and Starflight. In the Night Kingdom, Starflight finds Orchid chained up by Mastermind in his laboratory. Mastermind, who was Starflight's father, had been conducting expiriments on RainWing venom. During these expiriments Mastermind was oblivious to the fact he was torturing RainWings. While Mastermind is not looking, Starflight tells Orchid that Mangrove is coming to rescue her and she becomes hopeful after thinking he had given up on her. Later, during the attack of the Night Kingdom, Orchid is freed along with the rest of the RainWings. She is reunited with Mangrove, and they both return to the Rainforest Kingdom unharmed.
