"But maybe she was wrong. Maybe I'm not a good queen. Maybe I've ruined the name forever."
— Monarch about Diadem and her name, A Guide to the Dragon World

Monarch is an adult female SilkWing who was mentioned in The Lost Continent. She was the last queen of the SilkWings and ruled about fifty years prior to The Lost Continent, during the Tree Wars. She gave up her throne and allowed her tribe to be ruled by Queen Wasp and the HiveWings.

Personality

After Monarch was imprisoned in Wasp Hive, she questioned whether relinquishing her rule was the right choice.[1] She loves her tribe, and truly thought she was following their destiny and protecting them by abdicating from the throne.[1] She is yielding, agreeing to give up her power in order to placate the argument between Wasp and Sequoia over the Book of Clearsight.[2] She was fond of Sequoia.[2] She is also devoted to Clearsight, but after her imprisonment, questioned why she chose Wasp over Sequoia.[3] Despite her uncertainties, she prayed to Clearsight to protect and watch over her SilkWing subjects and guide them toward the brightest futures.[3]

Biography

The Lost Continent Prophecy

Blue wondered why Sequoia did not accept Queen Wasp's rule as Monarch did.

Sundew talked about how Sequoia did not back down like Monarch. Later, Hawthorn mentioned how Monarch did not ask questions about the Book of Clearsight when recounting the events leading up to the Tree Wars.

Luna mentioned that Wasp left no descendants from Monarch.

Field Guides

Monarch was depicted in a portrait at the beginning of the SilkWing chapter of the guide. Later in the chapter, Monarch's final written thoughts were featured.
