Jerboa II

(Not to be confused with Jerboa, her mother and the "original" Jerboa from Darkstalker's time.) Template:Charbox Jerboa II is an adult female SandWing who was introduced in Talons of Power. She first appeared after Darkstalker casts a spell that summoned all living animus dragons to his throne room. She lives in a hut beside the sea, near a border shared by the Ice Kingdom and the Kingdom of Sand. She is also immortal.

Appearance

Jerboa II has pale yellow scales that stretch across her whole body ending in a common black SandWing tail barb. She is tall, long-necked, and graceful, with wide black eyes and a dappled light brown triangle pattern on her wings.

Personality

Jerboa is quiet and thoughtful, similar to Moonwatcher, and also appears to be kind and considerate. Despite being an animus, she doesn’t seem to use her magic much. She is shown to welcome and trust others easily, such as taking care of Luna; and welcoming Moon and Qibli into her hut, despite them being strangers. She seems to dislike animus magic very much, even though she herself is an animus dragon.

Biography

Talons of Power

Jerboa was first seen in Darkstalker's Palace for a few split seconds by Turtle when she was summoned along with all other existing animus dragons. Jerboa then disappeared with a surprised expression, leaving Turtle to believe he imagined her.

Darkness of Dragons

She makes another mysterious appearance in the epilogue of Darkness of Dragons when she leads Moonwatcher and Qibli into her home to meet her. She then confirms to the two dragonets that she is the daughter of the first Jerboa, and that she is immortal. Jerboa shows them an injured dragon, who she has been taking care of. The dragon is Luna, a SilkWing from Pantala.

The Lost Continent

Jerboa appears in the epilogue when she finds Luna, lost and severely injured on one of the Kingdom of Sand's beaches. Jerboa says that it is lucky Luna speaks Dragon. She introduces herself to Luna, and Luna does the same. Jerboa brings the lost SilkWing to her home and offers her fish stew, but Luna declines, saying that she doesn't eat meat. She welcomes Moon and Qibli when they arrive and brings them to Luna, as seen in the Darkness of Dragons epilogue.

The Hive Queen

Her hut is mentioned twice in the prologue. She is also mentioned when Tsunami asks if she can enchant something for Luna to get back to Pantala, but Moonwatcher says that she is an animus that doesn't use her magic.

The Poison Jungle

In the epilogue, Jerboa II is seen flying to the edge of the Ice Kingdom to meet Queen Snowfall. It's revealed that Jerboa II knew the current Queen's late mother as Jerboa thinks how Queen Glacier usually arrived after she did when they met up. Queen Snowfall, already traumatized by Darkstalker's return and paranoid about getting attacked, is panicking about the sight of hundreds of dragons flying in from across the ocean. She wants Jerboa to expand the Great Ice Cliff, but Jerboa stops her, proving that her animus magic did not work anymore, also stating that no one else's animus magic was working either. It was also said that after Queen Snowfall flew away in a fit of rage, Jerboa thought to herself: "Completely useless. [...] Yes. Just like I've always wanted.", prompting the idea that she cast the spell to prevent animus magic to work. It is also likely that the hundreds of dragons flying towards them is the group of SilkWings and LeafWings that are coming to Pyrrhia to escape The Othermind, along with Cricket.

Trivia

• Her mother, Jerboa the First, enchanted her to make sure nothing could hurt her. This seems to have resulted in her immortality.
• Jerboa is the second known dragon to have immortality, the first being King Darkstalker.
• Jerboa is the only known living SandWing animus.
• Jerboa is one of two known SandWing animi, the other being her mother, Jerboa I.
• It is implied that Jerboa about all the animus magic disappearing, as this was hinted in The Poison Jungle when she thought, "Completely useless, [...] Yes. Just like I've always wanted."
• Since the end of the Poison Jungle revealed that all animus magic has disappeared according to Jerboa II, there is a theory that Darkstalker's animus immunity enchantment may be to blame since they do not explicitly say what the exact enchantment of the spell was; it could have been a spell to take all animus power away, but we cannot know for sure.
• She is the only known dragon to have the name of one of her parents; the reason why is still unknown.
• Jerboa II is one of the known characters to have a reused name, the others being Eclipse (here and here), Eagle (here and here), Ostrich (here and here), Pearl (here and here) and Cardinal (dragon and scavenger)
• Tui has hinted that someone (a 'she') knows more than she is revealing of the situation going on at Pantala. This 'she' is most likely Jerboa II.
• Her existence creates a plothole in the series because she was not summoned when Darkstalker brought all animi on the continent to his throne room.
  • She was summoned but cast a spell to leave as soon as she saw where she was.
  • The most likely explanation for this is that her mother's protection spell also prevented animus magic from working on her.
