IceWing plague

The IceWing plague was a disease enchanted by King Darkstalker to kill all the IceWings except Winter and hybrids, as Darkstalker believed Queen Diamond had killed Foeslayer. Evidently, a great deal of the IceWing tribe or possibly all of it except for Prince Winter, Alba, Changbai, and Ermine and all IceWing hybrids had contracted it.

This disease was brought into existence by King Darkstalker, and it was revealed during the epilogue of Talons of Power. Every IceWing in Possibility was confirmed to have the sickness, as well as possibly every IceWing in the IceWing Kingdom. Typhoon mentioned that it did not spread like a normal disease. Only pure IceWings caught it, as Darkstalker didn't want to get himself or any of his descendants sick (Darkstalker is a hybrid, more specifically an IceWing-NightWing hybrid).

In the book Darkness of Dragons, Typhoon informed Queen Thorn about the disease, and Qibli sent his enchanted earrings to the IceWings. Every IceWing in the tribe apparently got the earrings, but not before twenty IceWings including Queen Glacier, one of the first to get sick, died. Since Glacier had died, Snowfall ascended peacefully to the throne as the new queen.

These earrings cured all the IceWings of the plague because they made the wearer immune to Darkstalker's spells, as it was one of Darkstalker's spells.

Symptoms

An IceWing infected by the IceWing plague will experience the following:

1. Coughing up blood

2. High fever

In as little as three days or less, the IceWing will die.

Dragons Confirmed Sick or Deceased

• Queen Glacier (deceased)
• Tundra (bedridden)
• Prince Hailstorm (weakened)
• A messenger who talked to Prince Hailstorm (weakened)
• Typhoon's father (weakened)
• Multiple IceWings in Possibility (weakened)
• Most IceWings (or possibly all other then Prince Winter, Alba, Changbai, and Ermine) (weakened or deceased)

Trivia

• Only true IceWings can catch the plague. Hybrids can't catch it because Darkstalker, being an IceWing hybrid, knew that he would harm himself if he allowed hybrids to catch the sickness as well. Darkstalker made the plague due to his hatred of IceWings, because of what they did to Foeslayer, his mother, 2,000 years ago.
• It may or may not be a coincidence that this occurred close to the same time as the events in other tribes mentioned in the Talons of Power epilogue.
• It is still unknown why Winter and the IceWing students in Jade Mountain academy never caught the disease, although most likely it was because Darkstalker didn't want to create suspicion, or because Darkstalker promised Moonwatcher that he wouldn't harm her friends.
• The spell that Darkstalker put might be a dragon type of tuberculosis, because tuberculosis symptoms are coughing blood, weight loss, fever and pain.
• Typhoon cannot catch the disease, due to him being a hybrid.
