"Hugs are better than all of that."
— Dusky to Freedom, after she lists all the violent things she wants to do.

Dusky is a male SilkWing dragonet introduced in The Flames of Hope. He was formerly under the control of the othermind. He currently resides in the LeafSilk Kingdom with his mother.

Appearance

Dusky has lavender scales with speckles of dark blue and turquoise.[1] He has two star-shaped white scars, one on his forehead over his left eye and another near his wingbud on his right shoulder.[2] He is tiny,[3] but still was larger than Freedom.[4] He has a sweet face that reminds Wren of baby Sky.[5]

Personality

Dusky is extremely clingy to Luna,[3] and is often nervous and sad, he can be pretty quiet at times of danger. He loves Luna's flamesilk and Bumblebee's ferocious personality.[6] He found humans scary[7] and was happy to see the human cities in Cottonmouth's vision get burned down.[8] He is an agreeable little dragonet.[6]

Biography

The Lost Continent Prophecy

The Flames of Hope

Dusky was one of the many SilkWings hiding in the underground caverns. He stayed close to Luna when she arrived and told her that there were whispers in the dark saying, "You're mine now, little dragon." Later, Dusky is seen with Luna trying to sleep, though he startles awake several times. A dragon named Whitespeck comes to check on Dusky and reveals to Luna that Dusky’s mother was missing and his father was killed in a construction accident when he was only one. Luna is shocked that Dusky is alone, but Whitespeck informs her that since Dusky was the only one in his household, he was forced to work on Lady Bloodworm's construction projects.

Dusky was later taken by Vole into the Abyss, forcing Luna to go after him. In the Abyss, Dusky and Luna encounter the skeletons of Cottonmouth and Lizard who show them through the mindspace of events happening in real time and the origins of the Scorching.

Relationships

He seems to love his father and misses him dearly. When he was reunited with his mother, she began crying and smothered him in hugs, showing that she loves him, which appears to be mutual.

Dusky loves Bumblebee's ferocity.[6]

Dusky became attached to Luna right when he met her. He seems to enjoy being with her and is thankful for her rescuing him. They have a good relationship with each other, and the two have a mutual care for one another.

Dusky seemed to like Freedom, and had more of a positive relationship with her than Luna did, saying that she was funny and interesting. He had a belief that she was a good dragon, and honored her at death.
