Diamond was an adult female IceWing animus who was introduced in Darkstalker. She was an animus dragon and the queen of the IceWing tribe during the era of Darkstalker. She heavily influenced the causation of the NightWing-IceWing War due to her hatred towards Arctic and Foeslayer's relationship.

Diamond was one of the two only known IceWings in Pyrrhian history to use her animus power more than once, the other being her son Artic. After capturing Foeslayer, Diamond imprisoned her within the Ice Kingdom by enchanting two frozen shackles and many spears, creating the Diamond Trial.

Appearance

Diamond wore ice-blue diamonds on her ears, neck, and tail band. She had sharp, glittering eyes and a superior, condescending voice.

Personality

As an IceWing queen, Diamond was portrayed as very judgmental and pompous. She refused to talk to any IceWing who was not in the First Circle, and she was quite selfish and narrow-minded. She did not have any regard for Arctic or Snowflake's opinions, and seemed to only care about what was in her own best interests. She was vengeful to the point of breaking IceWing law and using her animus power more than once.

Diamond had an infamous hatred for Foeslayer and the NightWing tribe for 'stealing' Prince Arctic and was willing to start an entire war between the NightWings and the IceWings, because of her own personal vendetta.

She was also unpredictable and indecisive, having changed her mind a lot.

Queen Diamond is mentioned to be the most famous dragon with the name Diamond. She gave the IceWings the gift of healing. Later, she gave the tribe the gift of vengeance, creating an eternal cycle of resurrection for Foeslayer in the Diamond Caves. She is said to have killed Foeslayer forty times herself, to avenge her beloved son Arctic who was stolen by NightWings.

Moonwatcher mentions to Darkstalker that what Diamond did to his mother was very bad, but she is long gone now while Darkstalker's mother is alright.

Diamond was infuriated and refused to accept that Prince Arctic merely ran off with Foeslayer on his own free will. She had wanted him to marry Snowflake, a noble First Circle IceWing engaged to Arctic. She then lied and told her entire tribe that the NightWing, Foeslayer, coveting the power of the IceWings' animus dragons, had kidnapped Arctic so that her tribe could benefit from these powers as well. Because Arctic left, there were no more animus IceWings, causing all IceWings to detest NightWings for "stealing" their last animus. She then started the NightWing-IceWing war. All the IceWings had believed that Foeslayer had gotten away, but Diamond managed to catch her when Foeslayer took off her protective earring. In her fury, Diamond used her powers two more times (against IceWing law) to get her revenge on Foeslayer. First, Diamond cast a spell that ordered Foeslayer to come to her, which took effect when Foeslayer took off Arctic's earring, and then Diamond locked Foeslayer up in shackles that could only be broken by the frostbreath of a member in the royal IceWing family. These shackles prevented Foeslayer from ever leaving the Diamond Caves, and made it so that if Foeslayer ever died, she would do so in excruciating pain and be frozen again, only to unfreeze when tapped with one of the enchanted diamond spears. Furious, she unfroze and killed Foeslayer forty times. Then, before she died, Diamond decided other IceWings could kill Foeslayer too, but for a different purpose: The Diamond Trial. She was implied to have been put to sleep by a potion Snowfox bought from a RainWing.

She first appeared when Arctic went over to Foeslayer and Prudence to explain the situation to the latter. Diamond was hurrying after Arctic with other IceWing aristocrats. Later, in a flashback of Snowflake, she was inconsiderate of her feelings of the marriage, saying that Snowflake should understand that she doesn't care about her opinions or if Snowflake doesn't have any. Diamond also assessed Snowflake's strength, poise, and diplomacy throughout many tests that had been deliberately unfair. She later confronted Arctic before he was about to meet with Foeslayer. She was initially suspicious of Arctic's behavior because of his yawning during breakfast with Snowflake. When Arctic was thinking about one conversation with Foeslayer, Diamond was angered by her son's delayed response. She assigned two guards to guard Arctic's room, preventing him from seeing Foeslayer, to no avail.

Diamond showed little regard for her son and only cared about her own agenda. She did not care about his happiness and despised his relationship with Foeslayer. She seemed to have only loved him for his magic. She also belittled him in her most recent message, which further strained their complicated relationship.

Foeslayer

Diamond fiercely hated Foeslayer for "stealing" her son. She went as far as lying to her subjects that the NightWings were plotting to gain animus magic. She created the gift of vengeance out of hatred for Foeslayer and even killed her forty times.

Snowflake

Despite assigning her to marry Arctic, Diamond cared little for Snowflake. However, she brushed off whether she had opinions or not, as well as assessed her unfairly. The two were bitter of each other due to the arranged marriage.

Known Enchantments

• All animus IceWings must give their tribe a single enchanted gift made with their animus powers. Diamond's enchantment was called "the gift of healing" — five narwhal horns enchanted to heal any IceWing who was accidentally hurt with frostbreath. According to Arctic, they were useful when dragonets played a little too rough, but she probably wished she had enchanted them to cure any type of wound instead.
• Even though animus IceWings were only supposed to use their magic once, Diamond used it four times out of her resentment for Foeslayer. As soon as Diamond managed to find her, she enchanted Foeslayer's shackles so that whenever she was killed, she'd turn into a statue of ice, resembling her living self. Diamond also had enchanted the shackles so that Foeslayer would only age when the ice encasing her had been broken. Otherwise, Foeslayer would stay the same age as long as she was trapped in ice. It was a clever enchantment, and the first forty times, Diamond broke the ice and killed Foeslayer herself out of pure hatred. She decided that other IceWings can kill the NightWing, creating the the gift of vengeance.^{[citation needed]} Her final enchantment was to make the Royal Icewing Crown give its wearer nightmares and induce extreme paranoia towards all Nightwings^{[citation needed]}, ensuring that all future Icewing queens would continue to resent and wage war against the Nightwings far into the future, continuing her vengeance long after her own death. This final enchantment was unknown to the Icewings for centuries until it was discovered by Queen Snowfall.
• She made an enchantment to track down Foeslayer (or, specifically, to compel Foeslayer to come directly to her, no matter where she was), but the item of enchantment is unknown. She was unable to do it for a long time, as Foeslayer had Arctic's enchanted earring to protect her. But as soon as Foeslayer took the earring off (when she got mad at Arctic) Diamond was finally able to catch her.
