Part 1: The Shifting Sands
Sunny is coming out of the tunnel into the rainforest after the volcano exploded. Clay arrives, protecting Starflight from the explosion. Before Sunny can see if Starflight is all right, Preyhunter, Fierceteeth, and Strongwings kidnap her and bring her away.
They want to use her as a bargaining chip so that the RainWings will elect a NightWing as queen. It is then revealed that Preyhunter has stolen the Obsidian Mirror, which can be used to see any other dragons and their consversations. Sunny's kidnappers spy on Glory, and then Sunny suddenly escapes. They follow her for awhile, but then give up and fly away.
The three NightWings decide to fly to the Scorpion Den to send a message, informing Burn of the whereabouts of the Dragonets of Destiny in exchange for a reward. Realizing this, Sunny follows them. At one stop (the NightWings stopeed frequently due to their poor stamina) Sunny steals the Obsidian Mirror, and the NightWings notice its absence when they wake. They decide to continue without it, and stop in the Scorpion Den in the Kingdom of Sand.
The NightWings were stopped by a guard at the entrance of the Scorpion Den. The NightWings plead, feeling superior to the SandWing guard because they were NightWings. The guard then tells them to speak to Thorn, the leader of the Outclaws. The NightWings are escorted away, and Sunny buries the Obsidian Mirror in a sand dune, hoping she will be able to find it later.
Suddenly, another SandWing appears before Sunny, saying "That means you too." Sunny is startled, but lets the other dragon lead her into the city. While they walk through the narrow paths, Sunny notices several dragons selling items and wanted posters displaying pictures of Morrowseer, Dune, and some other NightWing. The dragon escorting Sunny is revealed to be Six-Claws, and he leads her to an oasis at the center of the city.
They enter a tent and watch Thorn interrogate the three NightWings Sunny was following. Thorn asks for the whereabouts of Morrowseer, and Preyhunter replies that he died. Out of rage, Thorn pounces onto Preyhunter. Out of fear, Preyhunter claws at Thorn, and she instinctively stabs him with her tail, killing him. She looks to the remaining NightWings, and Sunny jumps out in front of her, begging Thorn not to kill Fierceteeth and Strongwings.
Thorn takes Sunny to the back of the tent to interrogate her. Sunny admits that Dune had found her egg for the prophecy, and Thorn explains that Dune had stolen it from her. Then, Thorn reveals that Sunny is her daughter. Suddenly, a SandWing messenger runs in, saying that a Dragonbite viper was found at the orphanage and there was a fire. Thorn leaves, and Sunny falls asleep in the tent.
Sunny awakes to Six-Claws, and he leads her out of the tent to meet other Outclaws. Addax, along with several other SandWings, appears and threatens Six-Claws. He is holding Six-Claws' daughter, Ostrich, hostage. He wants Sunny in exchange, so he could give her to Burn. Sunny decides to go with him, and is flown out to Burn's Stronghold, ending Part 1.

The Brightest Night, the fifth and final novel of the Wings of Fire series, will be published on Amazon March 25, 2014, and released to everywhere else on the first day of April 2014. Sunny, the SandWing Dragonet of Destiny, is the main protagonist.

This book follows The Dark Secret.

The title most likely refers to the night when the three moons of Pyrrhia will be full all at the same time, known as "the brightest night" in the prophecy.

Back Cover

ONE WILL HAVE THE WINGS OF FIRE...

Sunny has always taken the Dragonet Prophecy very seriously. If Pyrrhia's dragons need her, Clay, Tsunami, Glory, and Starflight to end the war, she's ready to try it. She even has some good ideas how to do it, if anyone would listen to her.

But shattering news from Morrowseer has shaken Sunny's faith in their destiny. Is it possible for anyone to end this terrible war and choose a new SandWing queen? What if every thing they've been through was for nothing?

Buried secrets, deadly surprises, and an unexpected side to scavengers are all waiting for her in the shifting sands of the desert, where Sunny must decide once and for all: Is her destiny already written?

Or can five dragonets change their fate and save the world... the way they choose?

Summary

It all comes down to this: The Dragonets of Destiny must finally bring the epic war to an end, reconcile the seven tribes, and choose the next queen of the SandWings... and make it out alive.

The author hinted that a SandWing dragonet based off the name of one of her sons would be briefly mentioned.

It has also been hinted that the book will reveal a new side to the scavengers. (Source: description of "The Brightest Night" iBook.)
