The Royal SeaWing Massacre occurred after Prince Albatross of the SeaWings built the Summer Palace over 2000 years before the events of the series. As an animus dragon, Albatross's powers eventually overtook his soul, and he was driven insane. During a party arranged by the queen, Albatross managed to kill nine members of his own family, Queen Lagoon, King Humpback, Splash, ReefManta, Scallop, Eel, Princess Sunset of the SkyWings, and an unknown musician, leaving only Fathom, his grandson, Indigo, best friends with Fathom, and Pearl, the heir to the throne, before being stabbed through the heart by a spear. Fathom enchanted the spears to kill him, but lied and said Indigo killed Albatross. A SkyWing named Eagle also survived and flew back to the Sky Kingdom.

After the massacre, Pearl ascended to the throne. Indigo was given a position in the guard, and Fathom became a recluse. When Fathom and Indigo were at the party with Darkstalker, they mentioned no one in the Kingdom of the Sea talked about it much.

In The Lost Heir, Anemone mentioned the Royal SeaWing Massacre when she explained the side effects of using animus magic. She didn't like Whirlpool making her use her powers because she didn't want to be like Albatross.

In Moon Rising, Moonwatcher is encouraged by Darkstalker to read a scroll about animus touched objects, which reveals some information about Prince Albatross and the Royal SeaWing Massacre, although the passage is mostly about Fathom.

The massacre happens in Chapters 6 and 8 in Darkstalker (Legends).
