Raven

Raven is a female human who so far has only appeared in The Dangerous Gift. She currently resides in the caves deep below the surface of Pantala with a number of other humans, somewhere within walking distance of the Abyss.

Personality

Raven seems to be cheerful but determined and is described to be curious about the "sky world" (the surface of the continent). She likes to tease dragons by nearly getting captured, and believes that she's not putt. She's shown to be caring when she goes to the abyss to give food to Vole even though going there is forbidden.

Raven is the focal point of one of Snowfall's visions, jumping from rock to rock on the cave ceiling, staying hidden from a green dragon that's been trying to catch them. She mocks the dragon for not being able to do so and Mole peeks out one of the upper passages, urging her to get in. He admonishes her for putting herself into danger while she says that it's funny to provoke the dragons. Raven wonders if the sudden appearance of the dragons in the caves, who are implied to be the SilkWings left homeless by the burning of Bloodworm Hive and the LeafWings who were responsible for the burning, might have something to do with a recent change in the Abyss, but Mole shushes her for going against the rules, which disallow any discussion of it. Persistent, she points out that it's behaving strangely, but Mole stays firm and tells her to leave him out of it if she plans on climbing down the pit, which he describes as the deepest hole in the universe. After she's left alone, she wonders about whatever is going on above ground thinking that if it's enough to scare dragons, then it could spell the end of the world for humans.

She appears again in the epilogue, going to the edge of the abyss to give Vole some food. It's said that she and Mole are the only ones who dared approach him, since he has tossed others into the pit before. Vole asks if she can hear the whispers, but she can't understand what's being said. He says that it's growing and it will soon need a dragon. She attempts to ask for details, but he remains vague, telling her to bring "the" dragon to the pit to save the village or everyone she knows will die.
