- "We'll help [...] Writing was something I loved to do, when I was myself. When I was little, I had this plan that I would write about something that happened every day and give the story to all my neighbors."
- — to Cricket about his passion for writing, The Flames of Hope
Malachite is an adult male HiveWing who was first mentioned in The Hive Queen. He was originally Lady Scarab's secretary before he was forced under the permanent control of Queen Wasp and was forced to work for her in Wasp Hive. He is currently living in the LeafSilk Kingdom with his partner Katydid and their daughter Cricket.
Appearance
Malachite has warm orange scales and dark red wings with black spots here and there, some of which resemble Cricket's inkblot scales on his wings. He has kind eyes, and wears glasses.[1]
Personality
Before becoming enslaved by Wasp, Malachite was a kindhearted individual who had several good ideas for his tribe's welfare. Scarab describes him as brilliant, able to make excellent coffee, and full of exciting ideas.[2]
Biography
The Lost Continent Prophecy
After Scarab confessed that Cricket's true mother was Katydid, she showed Cricket an old book and opened its front cover, revealing a hollow space that held a small portrait of Malachite holding a book. Scarab explained that Malachite formerly worked under her when she served as minister of education. After discovering that Scarab was quite fond of him, Wasp forbade him from marrying Katydid, knowing full well it would upset Scarab. She then took permanent control of him to hurt her further.
Malachite was mentioned briefly by Inchworm while he was under Wasp's mind control. When Wasp heard about Cricket's residence, she invited her to come back to see her father, but then threatened her by saying she could easily kill him as well.
Malachite was present in Wasp's throne room when Tsunami, Qibli and Pineapple were brought to the queen. Cottonmouth used Malachite to speak to Wasp directly. Cottonmouth left Malachite for a small moment to punish Wasp. This gave him some time to try and help the Pyrrhians escape by sawing through the vines. Unfortunately, Cottonmouth jumped back into Malachite before he could cut enough vines. Cottonmouth left Malachite's body when Qibli blew a flame at him, leaving Malachite writhing on the floor, trying to beat the flames down. Malachite managed to escape the burning throne room.
Malachite later appeared at the end of The Flames of Hope, as a resident of the new LeafSilk Kingdom, living with Katydid and Cricket.
