"Malachite. My secretary, back when I was still allegedly the minister of education. Brilliant, talented, made excellent coffee, full of exciting ideas. The first dragon in years who gave me hope for the future of our tribe."
Scarab to Cricket about Malachite, The Hive Queen

Template:Charbox Malachite is an adult male HiveWing who was first mentioned in The Hive Queen. Formerly Lady Scarab's secretary when she worked as the minister of education, Malachite was forced to work in Wasp Hive under Queen Wasp. He was also forbidden to partner with Katydid, the dragon he loved, because Queen Wasp wanted to emotionally harm Scarab by punishing any dragon she was close to.

Malachite does not know of Cricket's existence, and it was mentioned in The Hive Queen that any time Scarab sees Malachite, his fully white eyes make it clear that he is under the influence of Wasp's mind-control.

Appearance

According to Cricket, Malachite has kind eyes, glasses, and scales that are a warm orange color, with spots of black scales here and there, like ink blots. His wings are dark red, and he was holding a book in his portrait.[1]

Biography

After Lady Scarab confessed that Cricket's true mother was Katydid, she showed Cricket an old, dark green book from one of her bookshelves and opened its front cover, revealing a hollow space that held a small painting of Malachite. Scarab explained that Malachite formerly worked under her when she was minister of education, and that Queen Wasp paraded a mind-controlled Malachite past Scarab whenever she got the chance.

Malachite is mentioned briefly through Inchworm while under Queen Wasp's mind control. When Wasp hears about Cricket's residence, she invites her to come back to see her father, but then threatens her by saying she could easily kill him as well.

Trivia

  • Malachite is defined as both a type of green gemstone and a type of beetle.
    • Spiritually, malachite is sometimes viewed as a stone of balance, abundance, manifestation, and intention.
    • A Malachite is also a species of butterfly, meaning Malachite could have also been a SilkWing name.
    • Despite malachite stones being shades of green, the character Malachite is ironically orange and black. This color mismatch irony is shared with Ex-Queen Scarlet, who is orange instead of scarlet, as her name suggests.
  • Malachite is one of the two known HiveWings who share a name with a gemstone, the other being Lady Jewel.
  • Malachite is the fourth known dragon to wear glasses, the other three being Cricket, Scarab, and Thoughtful.
  • Malachite is unaware that he has a daughter.
