Malachite is an adult male HiveWing who was Lady Scarab's secretary when she was the minister of education. According to Lady Scarab, Queen Wasp first forbade Malachite to marry Katydid, and then took him away to Wasp Hive to work for herself. He currently does not know about Cricket's existence.

Appearance 

According to Cricket, Malachite has kind eyes, glasses, and scales that are a warm orange color, with spots of black scales here and there. His wings are dark red, and he was holding a book in his portrait.

Biography

The Hive Queen

After Lady Scarab tells Cricket about her true mother, Katydid, she takes an old, dark green book and opens its front cover, revealing a small painting of Malachite. Scarab explains that Malachite was her secretary when she worked as minister of education, and she described him as being "Brilliant, talented, made excellent coffee, full of exciting ideas. The first dragon in years who gave [Scarab] hope for the future of [the HiveWings]." Scarab also mentioned that Queen Wasp has seemingly been mind-controlling Malachite ever since she summoned him to Wasp Hive.

• Malachite is the only known HiveWing who shares a name with a gemstone.
