Clay vs Fjord

Fjord was an IceWing, his scales being pale blue or "the color of sky-filled snow." He fought for Blaze in the great war, and became a prisoner of war under Queen Scarlet.

In The Dragonet Prophecy, he was pitted against Clay in the SkyWing Arena. He appeared to be intent on surviving, as before he fought against Clay, he had killed four others in arena matches. According to the book, Fjord was 'only a head taller than Clay', but looked 'scarier and older'.

Clay first tried to reason with Fjord when they were thrown into the arena together, which annoyed the IceWing. Clay then reluctantly fought him, surprising him with SkyWing tactics he had learned from Kestrel. Starflight tried to tell Clay about the IceWing's freezing death breath by pointing to his mouth, but Clay only got the message right before Fjord exhaled the breath. Eventually, Fjord pinned Clay and was about to kill him when Tsunami flung herself off of her spire, causing a diversion.

This distracted Fjord and also bought time for Glory to spray venom into the IceWing's already scratched neck, face and eye, which led to his quick death. Because of the distraction, Clay was the only one who saw Glory's venom so all the SkyWings watching thought that Clay had killed Fjord instead. Little else is known of Fjord's life, although he was presumably one of the IceWing allies of Blaze.

Trivia

  • Glory based her IceWing disguise in The Hidden Kingdom off of Fjord.
  • Fjord was also the first dragon Glory used her venom on.
  • The word 'fjord' originates from the Old Norse language. It is the word for a long, narrow inlet of the ocean.
