Wren is a young female scavenger and one of the three protagonists of Dragonslayer. She was raised in Talisman, but when she was seven years old, the village's dragonmancers attempted to sacrifice her to the SkyWings. Wren escaped and befriended Sky soon afterward. After several years of human isolation, in which Wren and Sky survived primarily by themselves, Wren reunited with her brother Leaf.
Appearance
Wren was described to have curly, shortish, wild hair, and on the day of her sacrifice, her hair was oiled down and she wore a blue wool dress. As shown on the cover, Wren has tan skin and dark brown hair and wears a long, white shirt, blue pants, brown sandals, and has a sword strapped to her back. On the cover, she seems to have brown eyes. She also wears silver dragon earrings. She was also described to have freckles on her nose and arms.

Personality
|status    = Alive (as of The Flames of Hope)
Wren has been described as loud, and was also noted to have been labeled as being "the girl with a dragon's temper". She has also been described as "never polite and rarely good". She shows distaste for humanity after the way people treated her and after the dragonmancers from Talisman tried to use her as a sacrifice, but she does have compassion towards dragons, as seen with her relationship with Sky, a dragon that she rescued after escaping from the sacrifice. Wren is shown to be quite fierce considering that she gave one of the Dragonmancers a rather scratched arm and another Dragonmancer a bleeding nose. Her curiosity and bravery are also evident throughout the book, as she wouldn’t have met Sky without it. With Sky, she is very protective and a good friend. She doesn't like most people but is intrigued by the prince of the Indestructible City, who's name is Undauntable and trades books and clothes for some of Sky's shed scales.

|former    = Human representative on the journey to Pantala
Wren is a human born in Talisman. When she was seven, she is taken to be sacrificed to the dragons. She wiggles out of her ropes and meets Sky, a mountain dragon. She rescues him from a bush expecting her fingers to get bitten off. Soon Sky and Wren start teaching each other their languages of Dragon and Human from each other. A year and a half later, when she tries to get into the Indestructible City, Wren meets a human named  Undauntable and his cat named Dragon (though she calls him Cat, saying that Dragon is a silly name for a cat). Eight years later, Wren and Sky travel to a dragon city where Sky is captured by General Sandstorm. Wren subsequently leaves to find and rescue Sky. During her quest, Wren learns that Sky is being held at Burn's stronghold and encounters Deathbringer (mistaking his name to be Murderbasket) who's travelling to the Ice Kingdom to assassinate Glory and Starflight and Tsunami. Wren convinces Deathbringer to put his mission on hold in order to fly her to the Kingdom of Sand in order for her to rescue Sky. After Deathbringer drops Wren off, she sneaks into the stronghold where she encounters Rose, another human who is the sister of Ivy's father, the Dragonslayer, who was left behind when he killed Queen Oasis. Rose leads Wren to Sky and with help from Smolder, who Rose thought was called Ember, Wren departs from the
Stronghold with Sky in-tow but not before reuniting with her elder brother Leaf who was accompanied by Ivy.
Wren later goes to Valor and Talisman to expose truths, using Sky to scare the humans.

Wren is a young female human and one of the three protagonists of Dragonslayer. She was raised in the village of Talisman. She can speak Dragon very fluently, due to learning it from Sky.

"I bet they didn't! [...] I bet the dragons don't even care! [...] They'd eat anyone they found all tied up! If they could choose, they'd pick someone bigger and yummier than me. Like Camellia! She would make a much better sacrifice to the dragons! Why didn't they pick her?"
Description
Wren has dark curly hairL2 and tree-bark brown eyes. She was described to have freckles all across her nose and arms.L2 For the first part of Dragonslayer, she wore a blue dress and had her hair pinned up.L2 When she arrives in the Indestructible City, she is seen wearing dark green pants, a moss green tunic, fawn brown boots, and a soft wool cloak dyed the grey of a stormy sky.L2 Whilst searching for Sky, she obtains a sword which she carries strapped to her back.L2

"She'd be so oily and sugary the dragons could choke on her." - A thought about her sister Camellia.
Personality
Wren is brave and disobedient,L2 being described as "having a dragon's temper."L2 She was never polite and rarely good.L2 Wren is shown to be quite fierce when she needs to be,L2 and is also arrogant, as seen when she thought Snowfall was scared of her.TDG She shows distaste for humanity after the dragonmancers tried to sacrifice her to the dragons for treasure,L2 knowing that humans would have rather believed in obvious lies than save an innocent life. Wren is more compassionate towards dragons and would rather be with them over humans.L2 As such, she is not interested in visiting human villages unless she needed to trade.L2 The only thing she misses about human civilization is reading.L2

"The dragonmancers would never choose Camellia, [...] They chose me, because they don't like me. And Mother and Father let them."
She also has a love for travelling and exploring the world. Throughout the years, she traveled across Pyrrhia alongside Sky and is considerably knowledgeable about geography.L2 Because of her freedom through travelling, Wren does not like being exposed and having nowhere to hide.L2 She likes to be left alone.TDG Luna believed that Wren could probably bring down a Hive on her own if she had fire and talons.TFoH Though she was fearless, she still held herself in a watchful and cautious way.TFoH

"Stop crying, So people are terrible and can't be trusted. That shouldn't be such a big surprise, Wren. They've never stood up for you before. Nobody cares about you and so you shouldn't care about them either. Well, I think I shall NOT get eaten, [...] That will SHOW THEM. I don't need a village! Or parents! Or any of them! I'm smarter than all of them and smarter than the dragons, too! I don't have to be someone's breakfast if I decide not to be. So there!" - A thought.

|content = Wren appeared when she and Sky helped rescue Daffodil from the scavenger enclosure in Sanctuary. After Snowfall confronted them, she revealed to her that she could speak Dragon, much to the queen's shock. When Snowfall asked if Daffodil could speak their language too, Wren said that she would if she had paid attention and studied more, sounding annoyed by it.

"Hey, [...] Dragon baby! Are you faking being dead? So that I'll come up close and poke you and then you can eat my finger?"
After Snowfall fainted, having another vision, Wren bragged that the dragon was terrified of her and was confused when Snowfall understood her for a moment. After Snowfall mentioned that she wanted to show the humans to the others, Wren declined, thinking that the dragons would just eat them, and said that she just wanted to be left alone, but she was eventually persuaded to follow the queen back.

"This IS a trick, isn't it? [...] You want me to go, 'aw, poor baby,' and try to set you free, and then you'll set me on fire and eat me! I see what you're up to, little weird dragon!"
The group returned to the enclosure where the other dragons were waiting. While she was a little irritated with the amount of dragons present, she nevertheless told every other dragon present that she could speak Dragon, surprising them. After Snowfall told the others about the abyss, Qibli suggested bringing Wren and Sky with them to communicate with the humans in Pantala. Wren initially refused, saying that Sky was not much of a fighter and expressed concern that he would be taken over by the breath of evil. Snowfall convinced her to come with them by saying that her and the other queens would pass an edict forbidding dragons from hunting and eating humans in exchange for her help, with Wren adding that keeping humans as pets should be forbidden as well. When Winter realized that Smolder has been keeping Rose as a pet for years, Wren told him not to worry about her since she was happy to be with the prince.

"Stop being cute and tragic, [...] I'm not falling for it."
After Snowfall destroyed the gift of order and talked with Opal, Lynx was mentioned to be flying with the other representatives to Pantala, with Wren among them.

|content = Wren first appeared when Pineapple and Sky searched for marine life on the beach near Jerboa III's hut.

"What am I doing." - While freeing Sky from a bush.
A few days after leaving Pyrrhia for Pantala, the Representatives were ambushed by dragons controlled by Wasp on an island, including Earwig. Wren and Sky hid in the island's forest, as Wren explained in the ambush's aftermath that Sky was terrified of fighting.

"Why are you all alone? [...] And why are you so cold?"
Wren was among the group including Luna, Cricket, Bullfrog, and Sky that went into the abyss and waited for Sundew's gift of stealth to wear off. The first human the group encountered in the abyss was Axolotl, who resided in a nearby village. Three days after their arrival on Pantala, Sundew's enchantment wore off, and Axolotl ran in terror at the sight of the dragons. Wren followed Axolotl to the village to assure them that the dragons weren't dangerous, and later met and convinced Ocelot to let Axolotl travel with the group.

"Well, if you do have a mommy somewhere, she wasn't taking very good care of you, [...] Don't feel too bad. Mine is very, very terrible, too."
As Axolotl lead the group to the abyss, they encountered Pokeweed who brought them to the refugee camp where they met Tau and the other SilkWings hiding in the caverns.

"Calm down!"
The next day, Wren went with the group of dragons down to the abyss where she encountered Vole. When Dusky was kidnapped by Raven and Mole, Wren chased after them and tried to get them to give Dusky back. While Luna and Dusky were in the abyss, Wren taught Axolotl some dragon.

"Shhh, [...] It won't hurt you, but it'll definitely eat me if it finds us."
Wren was waiting at the top of the abyss when Luna and Dusky escaped and was with them when they left the caves. Wren was also with Luna when she reunited with Swordtail and her family.

|content = Wren was a human born in Talisman, but when she was seven, she was sacrificed to the dragons because she read a book featuring information about the illegal acts of the dragonmancers. She managed to free herself from the ropes that were supposed to prevent her from escaping and rescued Sky, a mountain dragon, from a bush. She hid him from Kestrel, who had tried to kill him. Sky and Wren became friends. Soon, they began teaching each other their respective languages.

"Unless... [...] Do you know that dragon? Is it the one that threw you in the river?"
While traveling through the mountains, they stumbled upon the cave that the dragonets of destiny grew up in, spotting the dragonets through what may be the sky hole. By then, Wren and Sky could already communicate in broken sentences. A year and a half later, she tried to get into the Indestructible City and met a boy named Undauntable and his cat named Dragon.

"It's gone, [...] I won't let it find you. We're safe. [...] Well... kind of sort of safe. As safe as a seven-year-old and a baby dragon can be all alone in the mountains anyway."
Eight years later, Wren and Sky traveled to a dragon city (the Scorpion Den), where Sky was captured by General Sandstorm, and Wren left to find and rescue Sky. During her quest, Wren learned that Sky was being held at Burn's stronghold and encountered Deathbringer (mistaking his name to be Murderbasket), who was traveling to the Ice Kingdom under orders to assassinate Glory, Starflight, and Tsunami. Wren asked Deathbringer to put his mission on hold to fly her to the Kingdom of Sand to rescue Sky. He, believing that she is some hallucination, agreed. After Deathbringer dropped Wren off, she snuck into the stronghold where she encountered Rose, another human who was Ivy's aunt, who was left behind when Stone and Heath killed Queen Oasis.

"We don't need anybody else, right, little dragon? [...] If they don't want us, we don't care. We can look after each other, can't we?"
Rose led Wren to Sky, and with help from Smolder, the duo escaped from the stronghold. Nearby, Wren was reunited with her brother Leaf, who was accompanied by Ivy.

"I'm Wren, [...] Do you have a name? It's probably something like Rawrgllorf, isn't it?"
The three then returned to Valor and Talisman to expose the truths that had been hidden from them as children, using Sky to scare the humans into doing what they wanted them to.

"Well, I can't call you Squeak, [...] When you're big enough to eat me, I'm pretty sure you won't like that name very much. [...] I think you're a mountain dragon, even though your color is a little wrong. How about Sky? I kind of like the name Sky."
Relationships
Deathbringer
When Wren first met Deathbringer, whom she referred to as "Murderbasket," she tried to convince him to take her to the SandWing palace and accidentally stabbed his talon twice with her dagger. Deathbringer is her second 'favorite dragon.'L2

"I think that was a yes. Hello, Sky. When you grow up, will you burn down my village for me? Especially the dragonmancers' houses. That'll show them. I'm going to grow up on my own just fine and then come back and be like, ha! I did NOT get eaten by dragons and now my pet dragon is going to eat YOU, take THAT!"
Leaf
Leaf is Wren's brother, and the two were very close until the dragonmancers attempted to sacrifice Wren to the dragons. After that, they did not see each other for roughly seven years. Sometimes, when Wren could not help it, she thought about Leaf, prompting that he was the only person she liked in the whole of Talisman. When she met Leaf again, she was shocked and delighted that her older brother, whom have carved her a snail when they were younger, traveled around the world, trained to become a dragonslayer, and rode a dragon just to find her again and avenge her.

"Well, how are we supposed to avoid that by following the rules? Is there a rule about sleeping in less flammable pajamas?" - In Leaf's flashback
Rose
Wren met Rose in the kitchen of Burn's Stronghold. Rose stated she was overexcited to have a conversation with her since she had not talked to a human in years, especially a person who has the ability to speak Dragon. Rose helped Wren collect mouse poison to kill Sandstorm, while Wren trusted Rose enough to tell her about Sky, and even thinking of her as a friend.

"I'm not sure what's worse, the dragons or the dragonmancers, [...] At least the dragons aren't bossing us around EVERY SINGLE MINUTE OF THE DAY." - In Leaf's flashback
Sky
Wren found Sky as a newly hatched dragonet and saved him after Kestrel attempted to drown him. She relates to him through the fact that they were both abandoned by their kind. The two spent most of their life avoiding people and dragons in favor of growing up alone, traveling around Pyrrhia together.

"No, planning his amazing escape!" - In Leaf's flashback about playing with a carved snail
Wren often goes into extreme lengths to ensure Sky's safety, even murdering a grown dragon and diving into the midst of a dragon war to save him. She constantly worries about him throughout the book, caring deeply when he felt insecure about his loss of normal dragon abilities. Sky playfully teases Wren on multiple occasions and calls her his "pet" when other dragons interrogate him.

"Baby Sky, [...] you very silly dragon. You must have eaten meat before. I thought dragons only ate meat."
Undauntable
Wren first meets Prince Undauntable when she goes to the Indestructible City. Wren shows no interest in him, thinking he is arrogant, spoiled, and rude. However, Undauntable likes Wren, and each time she comes to the city, Undauntable begs for her to stay. When they are fourteen, he asks her to marry him, but Wren simply turns him down.

"We don't need anybody else, right, little dragon? [...] If they don't want us, we don't care. We can look after each other, can't we?"
— Wren to Sky, Dragonslayer

Wren is a young female human and one of the three protagonists of Dragonslayer. She was raised in the village of Talisman. She can speak Dragon very fluently, due to learning it from Sky.

Description

Wren has dark curly hair[1] and tree-bark brown eyes. She was described to have freckles all across her nose and arms.[2] For the first part of Dragonslayer, she wore a blue dress and had her hair pinned up.[3] When she arrives in the Indestructible City, she is seen wearing dark green pants, a moss green tunic, fawn brown boots, and a soft wool cloak dyed the grey of a stormy sky.[4] Whilst searching for Sky, she obtains a sword which she carries strapped to her back.[5]

Personality

Wren is brave and disobedient,[6] being described as "having a dragon's temper."[7] She was never polite and rarely good.[8] Wren is shown to be quite fierce when she needs to be,[8] and is also arrogant, as seen when she thought Snowfall was scared of her.[9] She shows distaste for humanity after the dragonmancers tried to sacrifice her to the dragons for treasure,[10] knowing that humans would have rather believed in obvious lies than save an innocent life. Wren is more compassionate towards dragons and would rather be with them over humans.[11] As such, she is not interested in visiting human villages unless she needed to trade.[12] The only thing she misses about human civilization is reading.[13]

She also has a love for travelling and exploring the world. Throughout the years, she traveled across Pyrrhia alongside Sky and is considerably knowledgeable about geography.[12] Because of her freedom through travelling, Wren does not like being exposed and having nowhere to hide.[14] She likes to be left alone.[15] Luna believed that Wren could probably bring down a Hive on her own if she had fire and talons.[16] Though she was fearless, she still held herself in a watchful and cautious way.[17]

Biography

The Lost Continent Prophecy

The Dangerous Gift

Wren appeared when she and Sky helped rescue Daffodil from the scavenger enclosure in Sanctuary. After Snowfall confronted them, she revealed to her that she could speak Dragon, much to the queen's shock. When Snowfall asked if Daffodil could speak their language too, Wren said that she would if she had paid attention and studied more, sounding annoyed by it.

After Snowfall destroyed the gift of order and talked with Opal, Lynx was mentioned to be flying with the other representatives to Pantala, with Wren among them.
The Flames of Hope

Wren first appeared when Pineapple and Sky searched for marine life on the beach near Jerboa III's hut.

A few days after leaving Pyrrhia for Pantala, the Representatives were ambushed by dragons controlled by Wasp on an island, including Earwig. Wren and Sky hid in the island's forest, as Wren explained in the ambush's aftermath that Sky was terrified of fighting.

As Axolotl lead the group to the abyss, they encountered Pokeweed who brought them to the SilkWing refugee camp where they met Tau and the other SilkWings hiding in the caverns.

Wren was waiting at the top of the abyss when Luna and Dusky escaped and was with them when they left the caves. Wren was also with Luna when she reunited with Swordtail and her family.

Legends

Dragonslayer

Wren was a human born in Talisman, but when she was seven, she was sacrificed to the dragons because she read a book featuring information about the illegal acts of the dragonmancers. She managed to free herself from the ropes that were supposed to prevent her from escaping and rescued Sky, a mountain dragon, from a bush. She hid him from Kestrel, who had tried to kill him. Sky and Wren became friends. Soon, they began teaching each other their respective languages.

Rose led Wren to Sky, and with help from Smolder, the duo escaped from the stronghold. Nearby, Wren was reunited with her brother Leaf, who was accompanied by Ivy.

The three then returned to Valor and Talisman to expose the truths that had been hidden from them as children, using Sky to scare the humans into doing what they wanted them to.

Relationships

When Wren first met Deathbringer, whom she referred to as "Murderbasket," she tried to convince him to take her to the SandWing palace and accidentally stabbed his talon twice with her dagger. Deathbringer is her second 'favorite dragon.'[18]

Wren found Sky as a newly hatched dragonet and saved him after Kestrel attempted to drown him. She relates to him through the fact that they were both abandoned by their kind. The two spent most of their life avoiding people and dragons in favor of growing up alone, traveling around Pyrrhia together.

Quotes

"I bet they didn't! [...] I bet the dragons don't even care! [...] They'd eat anyone they found all tied up! If they could choose, they'd pick someone bigger and yummier than me. Like Camellia! She would make a much better sacrifice to the dragons! Why didn't they pick her?"
― thinking about why the dragons chose her (Dragonslayer, page 15)

"Stop crying. So people are terrible and can't be trusted. That shouldn't be such a big surprise, Wren. They've never stood up for you before. Nobody cares about you and so you shouldn't care about them either. Well, I think I shall NOT get eaten. [...] That will SHOW THEM. I don't need a village! Or parents! Or any of them! I'm smarter than all of them and smarter than the dragons, too! I don't have to be someone's breakfast if I decide not to be. So there!"
― thinking, shortly after escaping dragonmancers' ropes (Dragonslayer, page 16)

"We don't need anybody else, right, little dragon? [...] If they don't want us, we don't care. We can look after each other, can't we?"
― to Sky (Dragonslayer, page 24)

"I think that was a yes. Hello, Sky. When you grow up, will you burn down my village for me? Especially the dragonmancers' houses. That'll show them. I'm going to grow up on my own just fine and then come back and be like, ha! I did NOT get eaten by dragons and now my pet dragon is going to eat YOU, take THAT!"
― to Sky (Dragonslayer, page 25)

"Let's go. [...] You're safe with me. Safe us."
― to Sky (Dragonslayer, page 64)

"I'd love you with or without fire. [...] You're perfect just the way you are. Even if you are weirdly obsessed with snails."
― to Sky (Dragonslayer, page 65)

"Oh? [...] And would I have to be adopted by a big, fancy family so I could have my own walls? And maybe a collar so everyone knows I belong to them?"
― to Undauntable about moving in (Dragonslayer, page 156)

"Undauntable, I'm only going to say this once, and I really mean this. [...] Yuck."
― about marrying Undauntable (Dragonslayer, page 185)

"Start with a dictionary. [...] Look up the word never. And stop acting like people are just more things you can buy."
― to Undauntable (Dragonslayer, page 186)

"It is not actually my responsibility to fix your life by giving you everything you want, [...] I'm not a rare dragon scale to add to your collection. I am a person. You are not entitled to have me along with everything else."
― to Undauntable (Dragonslayer, page 186)

"I can say STOP BEING A DIMWIT AND LISTEN TO ME!"
― to Cereus in Dragon (Dragonslayer, page 437)

"And you can't make us go back into that city full of dragons to say, 'hello, we escaped, no problem, but we thought it would be fun to come back and get eaten instead.' SERIOUSLY."
― to Snowfall (The Dangerous Gift, page 231)

"I can take care of myself. Sky's the one I'm worried about. He is not a 'super-stealth' or a 'fighting evil' kind of dragon. He is a 'but do the bad guys know about pandas because then I bet they wouldn't be evil anymore' kind of dragon."
― to Winter about Sky (The Dangerous Gift, page 241)

"I know. [...] Just ... Sky's not that kind of dragon. Battles like that scare him."
― to Sundew about Sky (The Flames of Hope, page 56)

Trivia

 • Wren is not entirely fluent in Dragon, as she mistook Deathbringer's name for Murderbasket,[19] and still does not know every word in the language.[20]
 • Wren hates spiders.[21]
 • "Snail" was the first word Wren learned in Dragon.[22]
 • Wren loves reading. When she was young, she had been so desperate for a new book to read that she stole the dragonmancers' books.[13]
