Stonemover is an adult male NightWing animus with dark black eyes and glossy scales that are half-coated in stone. He is also known as "The Ghost of Jade Mountain". He is the father of Sunny and the former partner of Thorn, and he ended up turning his animus powers against itself so that his scales would slowly turn to stone instead of losing his soul. In Talons of Power, Darkstalker tries to heal his scales, but he screams and says that he has to trap his talons in stone in order to keep the world safe. He inherited his animus powers from Prince Arctic, which means he is descended directly from Whiteout, as Darkstalker did not have any dragonets.

In The Brightest Night, Thorn described him to be "the color of the desert sky at night"TBN. Stonemover has been described as gray and black, with glossy, shining scales. He was "bigger than Thorn, but not enormous, nowhere near the size of Morrowseer or Burn. Deep lines were etched into his face, so he looked as if he were in pain even in his sleep"TBN.

His eyes are described as dark blackMR. After he put the stone-changing spell on himself, parts of him, such as his back legs, shoulders, and the edges of his wings, look heavier and thicker than regular dragon scales, as there is a layer of stone over them. The scales on a part of his tail and most likely the rest of the mostly-stone areas on him resemble dark pebbles; "The black scales looked like dark pebbles here, sinking into the skin beneath", causing him to appear similar a statue or as a part of the stone around himTBN.

Thorn described him by saying "he was always nervous, in a sweet, worried way, like no other dragon I'd ever met… He wasn't pretending to be scarier and meaner than he really was. He was just himself. And he was very smart... He really, really cared about saving his tribe." When Sunny met him, she felt somewhat disappointed by his dull and depressing personality. When Moon met him in the caves she remarked "he doesn't have much to say for a dragon who supposedly longs for company" and "he sighs a lot". Stonemover appears to not trust himself, saying his scales turned to stone for his own good. Moon and Sunny are both annoyed by his pessimistic attitude.

Stonemover is an adult male NightWing who was introduced in The Brightest Night. As an animus dragon, Stonemover enchanted his magic to affect his scales rather than his soul, causing his body to gradually turn to stone. He is the father of Sunny and was formerly in a relationship with Queen Thorn. He resides within Jade Mountain, and is known by some of academy's students as the "Ghost of Jade Mountain."

He made his way to Jade Mountain, and managed to turn his animus magic against itself. This way, instead of losing his soul to insanity, his body would gradually turn to stone. He tried sending a message to Thorn to tell her how to find him, but the message was intercepted by Burn's army and didn't get to her until the events of The Brightest Night.
Description
The Dragonet Prophecy
Stonemover has grayMR and black scales,TBN the color of the desert night sky.TBN His scales have partly turned to stone, including his back legs, his shoulders, and the edges of his wings, as well as his tail, which flops heavily along the ground behind him.TBN The scales on his tail look like dark pebbles, sinking into the skin beneath.TBN He has deep lines etched into his face, as if he is in pain,TBN and he has black,MR unreadable eyes.TBN His voice is deep, serious,TBN and sounds dust-covered.ToP His mouth almost does not move when he speaks.TBN He is bigger than Thorn, but not as enormous as Morrowseer or Burn.TBN
Kestrel tells the dragonets and Peril that, if they ever needed her help, there was a dragon at Jade Mountain who could help locate her. This means Stonemover has had some contact with the Talons of Peace somehow or can use something animus-touched to locate them.

The Lost Heir
Moon notes that he looks weighted down.MR The stone across his scales makes him appear fossilized.ToPToP
In the prologue, Webs mentions to Crocodile that maybe he could locate the "dragon in Jade Mountain" to help hide from the Talons.

During the assault on Burn's Stronghold, Sunny and Thorn discovered the message Stonemover had sent with his location. However, she was still mad at him for leaving, and refused to seek him out. Instead, Sunny traveled to Jade Mountain to ask her father for help. He was at first amazed to learn he had a daughter, but quickly became somber after hearing Sunny's plan to end the war and find the Eye of Onyx. He also confirmed that the Dragonet Prophecy was written by Morrowseer and explained that no NightWing has had powers in over a century.
Thorn described him as being "always nervous, in a sweet, worried way."TBN He never pretended to be scarier and meaner than he really was, and was described to be smart.TBN He cared a lot for his tribe, to the point where he would give up something large for them.TBN When Sunny met him many years later, however, she felt somewhat disappointed by his dull and depressing personality. When Moonwatcher met him in the caves, she remarked that he does not have much to say and think, lacking motivation to do most things.MR He is also described by Moonwatcher to have very slow thoughtsMR in addition to his slow, halting speech. He often felt hopeless of his own future and gave up immediately when he felt his soul deteriorating, petrifying himself as a result instead of taking further action to solve the main problem. He is also scared about ruining his soul and harming other dragons through animus power, which is why he turned himself to stone. Due to his own life experiences, he believed powers like mind-reading or animus magic will ruin someone for life.MR After Darkstalker removed his stone curse, Stonemover immediately tried to use his magic to harm himself to punish himself,ToP and his thoughts at that time were enough to give Mindreader a headache.ToP

One month after Thorn was crowned queen of the SandWings, she finally came to Jade Mountain and reunited with Stonemover.

He was at first amazed to learn he had a daughter, but quickly became somber after hearing Sunny's plan to end the war and find the Eye of Onyx. ===Moon Rising===
One month after Thorn was crowned queen of the SandWings, she finally came to Jade Mountain and was reunited with Stonemover.
When Moonwatcher, Sora, and Kinkajou were first visiting the Jade Mountain library, Kinkajou exclaimed that she heard of a ghost who lived in the academy. But Starflight said that the ghost was really Stonemover, who would enjoy a polite conversation, which Kinkajou thought sounded boring. When Moon heard of this, she thought that maybe he was the voice in her head, which she later found out was wrong. She later visited and asked him about NightWing powers, but all Stonemover said was that they are long gone and that they'd ruin your life.

However, Stonemover started screaming that they were not his talons, perhaps referencing that Darkstalker was taking control of him, and that his talons were monsters that should never be set free. Stonemover did not want his animus magic to do bad things to the world, so Darkstalker had to turn him back to the way he was. Stonemover later appeared in Darkstalker's throne room, after Darkstalker had summoned every single animus dragon in Pyrrhia into his throne room. Darkstalker asked him how many dragons were in that room since Turtle was hidden, and Stonemover replied "four," therefore giving away Turtle's presence.

Stonemover is mentioned by Flame, who says that the animus refused to heal the scar on his face, left by Viper. While Qibli is searching for Ostrich, he blunders into Stonemover's cave. Stonemover is shown desperately trying to avert his eyes from Flame, who is trying to escape the prison Darkstalker made for him. Qibli notes that it is a worse punishment for Stonemover than for Flame before moving on.
It has been hinted that Stonemover has some contact with the organization, as Kestrel referred to him if the dragonets ever needed help. He describes them as nosy.TBN

Qibli also questions several times throughout the book that he thinks Flame may have been enchanted by Darkstalker to kill Stonemover, either to get rid of competition or to make himself look good.
Thorn
Stonemover is Thorn's first partner. Thorn fell for him first and after a while, he fell for her too.TBN He also gifted her with the moonstone necklace before his sudden disappearance, a necklace that Thorn still wears. Due to Thorn never getting his note, Stonemover believed Thorn had given up on him and believed he was not the right dragon for Thorn.TBN They later had an awkward reunion after the end of the war and were quick to realize how little the two had in common anymore.TBNe

"I'm not the right dragon for Thorn. [...] Perhaps I never was. [...] There's nothing I can do. I did all the wrong things ... a long, long time ago ... and nothing can change that."
— Stonemover to Sunny, The Brightest Night

Stonemover is an adult male NightWing who was introduced in The Brightest Night. As an animus dragon, Stonemover enchanted his magic to affect his scales rather than his soul, causing his body to gradually turn to stone. He is the father of Sunny and was formerly in a relationship with Queen Thorn. He resides within Jade Mountain, and is known by some of academy's students as the "Ghost of Jade Mountain."

Description

Stonemover has gray[1] and black scales,[2] the color of the desert night sky.[3] His scales have partly turned to stone, including his back legs, his shoulders, and the edges of his wings, as well as his tail, which flops heavily along the ground behind him.[4] The scales on his tail look like dark pebbles, sinking into the skin beneath.[4] He has deep lines etched into his face, as if he is in pain,[4] and he has black,[1] unreadable eyes.[5] His voice is deep, serious,[4] and sounds dust-covered.[6] His mouth almost does not move when he speaks.[4] He is bigger than Thorn, but not as enormous as Morrowseer or Burn.[4]

Moon notes that he looks weighted down.[1] The stone across his scales makes him appear fossilized.[7][8]

Personality

Thorn described him as being "always nervous, in a sweet, worried way."[3] He never pretended to be scarier and meaner than he really was, and was described to be smart.[9] He cared a lot for his tribe, to the point where he would give up something large for them.[9] When Sunny met him many years later, however, she felt somewhat disappointed by his dull and depressing personality. When Moonwatcher met him in the caves, she remarked that he does not have much to say and think, lacking motivation to do most things.[10] He is also described by Moonwatcher to have very slow thoughts[11] in addition to his slow, halting speech. He often felt hopeless of his own future and gave up immediately when he felt his soul deteriorating, petrifying himself as a result instead of taking further action to solve the main problem. He is also scared about ruining his soul and harming other dragons through animus power, which is why he turned himself to stone. Due to his own life experiences, he believed powers like mind-reading or animus magic will ruin someone for life.[10] After Darkstalker removed his stone curse, Stonemover immediately tried to use his magic to harm himself to punish himself,[8] and his thoughts at that time were enough to give Mindreader a headache.[12]

Biography

Pre-Series
After the first eruption of the NightWings' volcano, Stonemover used his animus magic to create a series of tunnels. One connected the NightWing island to the Rainforest Kingdom as a passage for the NightWings to invade the rainforest, and the other connected the Kingdom of Sand (later used by the dragonets of destiny to meet Blaze) to the rainforest as a passage for Blister's SandWings to arrive with backup forces. It was here where he then met a young SandWing named Thorn. The two met in secrecy while Stonemover gathered the magic needed to create the tunnels, and over time they fell in love. However, Stonemover's animus curse began to take effect, and he left Thorn without her noticing or knowing about the curse. This prevented him from learning that they had conceived a single egg. He made his way to Jade Mountain and managed to turn his animus magic against itself. This way, instead of losing his soul to insanity, his body would gradually turn to stone. He tried sending a message to Thorn to tell her how to find him, but the message was intercepted by Burn's army, and did not reach her until the events of The Brightest Night.

The Dragonet Prophecy

The Dragonet Prophecy
Kestrel indirectly mentioned Stonemover as the "dragon of Jade Mountain" who the dragonets of destiny could contact if they ever needed her.
The Lost Heir
In the prologue, Webs indirectly mentioned Stonemover as the "dragon in Jade Mountain" who could possibly help him hide from the Talons.
The Brightest Night

During the assault on Burn's stronghold, Sunny and Thorn discovered the message Stonemover had sent with his location. However, Thorn became mad at him for leaving and refused to seek him out. Afterwards, Sunny left Thorn to warn her friends of Scarlet's escape. She had originally planned to head straight to the rainforest over the mountains, but due to bad weather, she had to stop at Jade Mountain. As she ventured further into a cave, she encountered her father on the way. He was at first amazed to learn he had a daughter, but quickly became somber after hearing Sunny's plan to end the war and find the Eye of Onyx. He also confirmed that the Dragonet Prophecy was fake and explained that no NightWing has had powers in over a century. Though distraught over this, Sunny was still determined to end the war and left to go find the Eye of Onyx.

One month after Thorn was crowned queen of the SandWings, she finally came to Jade Mountain and was reunited with Stonemover.

The Jade Mountain Prophecy

Moon Rising
When Moonwatcher, Sora, and Kinkajou were first visiting the Jade Mountain library, Kinkajou exclaimed that she heard of a ghost who lived in the academy. Starflight said that the ghost was really Stonemover, who would enjoy a polite conversation, which Kinkajou thought sounded boring. When Moon heard of this, she thought that maybe he was the voice in her head, which she later found out was wrong. She later visited and asked him about NightWing powers, but all Stonemover said was that they are long gone and that they would ruin her life.
Escaping Peril
Sunny briefly mentioned him when she, Clay, Peril, Turtle, and Ruby were talking about who Scarlet's animus might be.
Talons of Power
Stonemover was mentioned by Flame, who said that the animus refused to heal the scar on his face, left by Viper. However, after Darkstalker healed it for him, Flame tried and almost succeeded in killing Stonemover. Stonemover was saved by Darkstalker, who enchanted a stalactite to heal him and turned him back to a normal dragon.
Darkness of Dragons

While Qibli was searching for Ostrich, he blundered into Stonemover's cave. Stonemover was shown desperately trying to avert his eyes from Flame, who was trying to escape the prison Darkstalker made for him. Qibli noted that it was a worse punishment for Stonemover than for Flame before moving on.

Qibli also questioned several times throughout the book that he thought Flame may have been enchanted by Darkstalker to kill Stonemover, either to get rid of competition or to make himself look good. During the Battle of Jade Mountain, Starflight mentioned Stonemover while he, Fatespeaker and Qibli were discussing evacuation plans.

The Lost Continent Prophecy

The Poison Jungle
Stonemover was indirectly mentioned by Jerboa III when she told Snowfall that animus magic was not working for her or any of the other animus dragons.
The Dangerous Gift
Stonemover was indirectly mentioned by Tsunami when she was telling Sundew that they have four animus dragons. Stonemover also briefly appeared in Snowfall's vision as Jerboa III, when Jerboa III was brought into Darkstalker's throne room. She saw two SeaWings and a NightWing - Anemone, Turtle, and Stonemover.

Relationships

Sunny is Stonemover's only dragonet. He expressed surprise at her existence[5] and noted how he hoped for a daughter.[13] Stonemover seemed puzzled by Sunny's persistence on ending the war and was pessimistic about her plan.[14]

It has been hinted that Stonemover has some contact with the organization, as Kestrel referred to him if the dragonets ever needed help. He describes them as nosy.[15]

Stonemover is Thorn's first partner. Thorn fell for him first and after a while, he fell for her too.[9] He also gifted her with the moonstone necklace before his sudden disappearance, a necklace that Thorn still wears. Due to Thorn never getting his note, Stonemover believed Thorn had given up on him and believed he was not the right dragon for Thorn.[16] They later had an awkward reunion after the end of the war and were quick to realize how little the two had in common anymore.[17]
