Snowflake had silvery-white scales and wore a silver chain with one circle around her neck. According to Arctic, she was pretty in a boring, glassy way.{{Ref|L1p}} One of her wings was permanently damaged by Arctic by redirecting [[Foeslayer]]'s fire towards her, and there were blackened marks on it that come from Snowfox extinguishing the fire with her frostbreath, most likely having resulted in her never being able to fly again.{{Ref|W4q|169}}

Snowflake was a loyal [[Dragons|dragon]] who came from a respectable family. Arctic worried that she might lack a personality, but Snowflake became visibly irritated at Arctic after he snapped at her, and he later speculated that her character was composed of repressed fury. Arctic described her as unmemorable,{{Ref|L1p}} and her face was impossible to read.{{Ref|W4q|136}} She was quiet, and [[Queen Diamond]] once stated that Snowflake was a dragon who kept her mouth shut and either did not express or did not harbor any opinions. She had an excellent look of icy disdain but struggled to form cutting comebacks. She spent a lot of her time fuming, and although she had rage under her scales, it was seldom noticeable beneath her cool exterior. She was outwardly calm and collected and did not trust [[animus magic]]. Snowflake was introduced in the prologue, informing Arctic that his presence was required by his mother, Queen Diamond, in a diplomatic meeting with the [[NightWings]]. Despite the two being engaged in an arranged marriage, Arctic could not remember Snowflake's name, irritating her massively. After Arctic grumpily followed her to the meeting, Arctic suddenly remembered her name and the fact that they were engaged, though he kept the latter fact to himself as to not seem like a total idiot. As they ventured to where the NightWing diplomats were waiting for them, Arctic asked Snowflake what gift she would give the tribe if she were an animus.

Later, it was explained that she was chosen by Queen Diamond to be Prince Arctic's fiancée because she was very quiet, and Diamond was hoping that her quiet and submissive traits would pass on to her and Arctic's dragonets so that Diamond would not be challenged for her throne.

When Arctic was escaping with Foeslayer, [[Prudence]], [[Starclaws]], and [[Discretion]], Foeslayer blasted fire at Snowfox. Arctic used his animus powers to direct the blast towards Snowflake, who suffered severe burns to one of her wings. Luckily, Snowfox was able to put out the fire on her wing, but despite her best efforts, Snowflake's injury likely disabled her from flying for the rest of her life.

</p><p data-rte-fromparser="true" data-rte-empty-lines-before="1">Later on in the book, it was explained that she was chosen by Queen Diamond to be Prince Arctic's fiancee because she was very quiet, and Diamond was hoping that her quiet and submissive traits would pass on to her and Arctic's dragonets.

After Arctic grumpily follows her to the meeting (much to her relief) Arctic suddenly remembers her name and the fact that they are engaged, though he keeps the latter fact to himself so as to not seem like an idiot. This shuts Arctic up and they go out to the balcony, where they meet Foeslayer trying to keep herself warm while watching the sunset. Arctic eventually annoys Snowflake into leaving. The NightWing, who eventually (and unintentionally) introduces herself, playfully teases Arctic about not being able to remember his own fiance's name, and then later convinces Arctic to escape the Ice Kingdom with her.

Their relationship with each other is first developed when they plan to get Arctic out of the Ice Kingdom so Snowfox could challenge Queen Diamond instead of Snowflake having dragonets with Arctic. It was noted by Snowflake that Fox wanted to protect Snowflake with a fierceness that matched Snowflake’s own desire to get Fox on the throne. Snowflake described her as "<i>A dragon I would do anything for. After Snowflake cracked a joke about Arctic studying his noble reflection in the ice cubes of his drink, Snowfox snorted so loudly with laughter that several dragons turned to look at her. After understanding that they both had mutual goals, Snowfox draped her tail lightly over Snowflake's, and Snowflake began to regard her as beautiful. She thought of Snowfox as a dragon who understood her and a dragon as deep and dark as herself, who saw her anger and wanted to be nearer to it. It was noted by Snowflake that Snowfox wanted to protect Snowflake with a fierceness that matched Snowflake's own desire to get Snowfox on the throne. Snowflake was an adult female IceWing and one of the three main protagonists of Runaway. She was an aristocrat in the First Circle. She was in an arranged engagement to Prince Arctic and later was in a relationship with Snowfox.

Description

Snowflake had silvery-white scales and wore a silver chain with one circle around her neck. According to Arctic, she was pretty in a boring, glassy way.[1] One of her wings was permanently damaged by Arctic by redirecting Foeslayer's fire towards her, and there were blackened marks on it that come from Snowfox extinguishing the fire with her frostbreath, most likely having resulted in her never being able to fly again.[2]

Personality

Snowflake was a loyal dragon who came from a respectable family. Arctic worried that she might lack a personality, but Snowflake became visibly irritated at Arctic after he snapped at her, and he later speculated that her character was composed of repressed fury. Arctic described her as unmemorable,[1] and her face was impossible to read.[3] She was quiet, and Queen Diamond once stated that Snowflake was a dragon who kept her mouth shut and either did not express or did not harbor any opinions. She had an excellent look of icy disdain but struggled to form cutting comebacks. She spent a lot of her time fuming, and although she had rage under her scales, it was seldom noticeable beneath her cool exterior. She was outwardly calm and collected and did not trust animus magic. She was sarcastic, with a deep, dark, interior; Snowfox described her as having "a depth of dark water beneath her ice."[4]

Darkstalker

Snowflake was introduced in the prologue, informing Arctic that his presence was required by his mother, Queen Diamond, in a diplomatic meeting with the NightWings. Despite the two being engaged in an arranged marriage, Arctic could not remember Snowflake's name, irritating her massively. After Arctic grumpily followed her to the meeting, Arctic suddenly remembered her name and the fact that they were engaged, though he kept the latter fact to himself as to not seem like a total idiot. As they ventured to where the NightWing diplomats were waiting for them, Arctic asked Snowflake what gift she would give the tribe if she were an animus.

She replied that she did not know, and after Arctic demanded her to think about it, she responded by saying "Seems like kind of a waste of my time, unless you're having trouble coming up with an idea for yours." They went out to the balcony, where they met Foeslayer, who was trying to keep herself warm while watching the sunset. Arctic eventually annoyed Snowflake into leaving.

Snowflake watched Foeslayer and Prince Arctic with slight jealousy etched all over her face.

Later, it was explained that she was chosen by Queen Diamond to be Prince Arctic's fiancée because she was very quiet, and Diamond was hoping that her quiet and submissive traits would pass on to her and Arctic's dragonets so that Diamond would not be challenged for her throne.

She and Princess Snowfox met and talked about things that they could do to help Snowflake get rid of Arctic and help Snowfox ascend to the throne. While they schemed and planned, they became close friends.

When Arctic was escaping with Foeslayer, Prudence, Starclaws, and Discretion, Foeslayer blasted fire at Snowfox. Arctic used his animus powers to direct the blast towards Snowflake, who suffered severe burns to one of her wings. Luckily, Snowfox was able to put out the fire on her wing, but despite her best efforts, Snowflake's injury likely disabled her from flying for the rest of her life.

Relationships

Arctic

Snowflake was shown to despise Arctic. She thought of him as "the most arrogant, entitled, patronizing, obnoxious, preening, fat-headed son of a walrus she'd ever met,"[5] and described him to have a "smug pretentious face." She noted that he acted as though she were barely Seventh Circle and as though she had an obligation to entertain him when he was bored, and as though she had no brains in her head whatsoever.

However, after she witnessed Arctic killing several IceWing guards she knew by enchanting several spears, Snowflake's hate for him amplified and she slashed at his snout, saying he did not deserve to live or be happy with Foeslayer after what he had done.[6] Snowflake tried to kill him but was then shot down by a fireball Foeslayer threw, then Arctic enchanted it to hit her instead, burning her wings and losing her ability to fly permanently.

Diamond

Diamond liked Snowflake because she was quiet and she thought she was a model wife for Arctic, hoping that Snowflake's quiet, submissive traits would be passed on to any dragonets the two of them had. She set up tests in the form of small trials to see how Snowflake reacted. However, Snowflake despised her as much as she hated Arctic as she needed to stay quiet and unnoticed, causing her to fume and keep her anger on the inside.

Snowfox

Snowfox was Snowflake's partner.[event 1] When Snowfox and Snowflake first met, they instantly smiled at and joked with one another, and Snowflake allowed sarcasm to creep into her voice around Snowfox. After Snowflake cracked a joke about Arctic studying his noble reflection in the ice cubes of his drink, Snowfox snorted so loudly with laughter that several dragons turned to look at her. After understanding that they both had mutual goals, Snowfox draped her tail lightly over Snowflake's, and Snowflake began to regard her as beautiful.
