He was recently freed from Queen Wasp's control and currently resides in the LeafSilk Kingdom alongside his partner Katydid and their daughter Cricket.

Description

Malachite has warm orange scales and dark red wings with black spots here and there, some of which resemble Cricket's inkblot scales on his wings. He has kind eyes, and wears glasses.[1]

Personality

Before becoming enslaved by Wasp, Malachite was a kindhearted individual who had several good ideas for his tribe's welfare. Scarab describes him as brilliant, able to make excellent coffee, and full of exciting ideas.[2] He and Cricket have a somewhat similar personality.[3]

Biography

The Lost Continent Prophecy

After Scarab confessed that Cricket's true mother was Katydid, she showed Cricket an old book and opened its front cover, revealing a hollow space that held a small portrait of Malachite holding a book. Scarab explained that Malachite formerly worked under her when she served as minister of education. After discovering that Scarab was quite fond of him, Wasp forbade him from marrying Katydid, knowing full well it would upset Scarab. She then took permanent control of him to hurt her further, often having him walk by Scarab.

Malachite was mentioned by Inchworm while he was under Wasp's mind control. When Wasp heard about Cricket's residence, she invited her to come back to see her father, but then threatened her by saying she could easily kill him as well.

Malachite was present in Wasp's throne room when Tsunami, Qibli and Pineapple were brought to the queen. Cottonmouth used Malachite to speak to Wasp directly. Cottonmouth left Malachite for a small moment to punish Wasp. This gave him some time to try and help the Pyrrhians escape by sawing through the vines. Unfortunately, Cottonmouth jumped back into Malachite before he could cut enough vines. Cottonmouth left Malachite's body when Qibli blew a flame at him, leaving Malachite writhing on the floor, trying to beat the flames down. Malachite managed to escape the burning throne room.

In the epilogue, Malachite took residency in the new LeafSilk Kingdom, with Katydid and Cricket. Malachite mentioned that he would like to help Cricket write a book about the true history of the Scorching and Freedom's backstory. Both father and daughter were delighted to find out they had a lot in common with each other.

Relationships

Cricket is Malachite's daughter, whom he had with Katydid. Malachite did not know of Cricket's existence until the ending of The Flames of Hope.

Katydid is Malachite's partner. When Malachite was temporarily free of the mind-control in the middle of The Flames of Hope, he asked about Katydid. After they were both freed from the othermind's control, they happily reunited with their daughter, Cricket, and went to live in the LeafSilk Kingdom together.

Malachite used to work for Scarab, when he was her secretary. Scarab is fond of him, though this led to Wasp forbidding him from having dragonets with Katydid.
