- "You, and our sister Crane, two days ago in the battle by the cliff."
- — Reed to Clay about Crane, The Dragonet Prophecy
(Not to be confused with Crane, the MudWing queen who lived about 2,000 years ago during the time period of Darkstalker.)
Crane was a female MudWing dragonet who was mentioned in The Dragonet Prophecy. She was one of Clay's siblings and a soldier in Queen Moorhen's army until she was killed by Icicle during a battle between the IceWings and the MudWings while protecting her siblings during the War of SandWing Succession.
Description
Crane was a small[1] and thinner than an average MudWing,[2] with brown scales.[1]
Personality
Crane was shown to be selfless and protective in battle.[3]
Biography
The Dragonet Prophecy
Crane was killed during a battle between the IceWings and the MudWings at the Diamond Spray Delta, part of the Mud Kingdom's border, which took place just two days before Clay and Glory reached the battlefield, leaving Clay to wonder how many of his siblings would still be alive when the war ended. She was killed the same day Clay fought Fjord in the SkyWing arena. Clay received news of Crane's death when he met his remaining siblings.
While patrolling the borders of the Mud Kingdom, Reed wondered if Crane would still be alive if Clay had been their bigwings instead of him. Reed did not like to think about the battle that killed Crane, as it made him feel as if "a huge pit had opened up inside of him that he just wanted to fall into." He felt terrible about it and did not want it to be true.
The Jade Mountain Prophecy
Icicle was Sora's clawmate at Jade Mountain Academy, and Sora soon realized that Icicle was the IceWing who had killed Crane. Because of Crane's death, Sora tried to kill Icicle to get revenge. However, she failed both times — once with a dragonflame cactus and the other with a stalactite on the roof of the prey center. One murder attempt accidentally killed Carnelian and Bigtail, and severely injured Tamarin. Crane was mentioned when Sora asked Kinkajou to leave so she could apologize to Tamarin alone, who was seen crying when Moonwatcher, Qibli, and Umber came rushing in. When Moon read Sora's mind, she saw a flashback of a battle during the war, where Crane had saved Sora and Marsh from an IceWing. When Crane turned to smile at them, she was then killed by another IceWing as Sora screamed in horror. The killer was later revealed to be Icicle.
