* A crane is a species of bird with long legs and a long neck. They are usually very beautiful and are excellent fishers.

* Queen Crane may have been a much more aggressive and dangerous MudWing queen than normal (at least compared to the MudWings today) because of the way the MudWings were mentioned to have been behaving by the [[SeaWings|SeaWing]] queen, Queen Lagoon. [[RainWings]] were also mentioned by her alongside the MudWings.
* Queen Crane shares the same name with Clay's dead sister, Crane. This is one of the few reused names in the series, along with Eclipse (Clearsight's daughter in a future that never happened and one of the warriors in Darkstalker's first wave), Jewel (Clearsight's daughter in a possible future and the leader of a Hive), Lagoon (Prince Albatross's sister and Queen Coral's cook), Pearl (The SeaWing princess who succeeded Queen Lagoon and the SeaWing Council member who guards the treasury), and Ostrich (Six-Claw's mother and  his daughter, though probably his daughter was named for his mother)
