She can be quite annoying though she is shown that she can be thoughtful and follow directions when she and Sundew are trapped in the sundew plant. She is also smart and a fast learner because she managed to learn many words. Bumblebee is very loving and caring to Cricket, Blue, Swordtail, and especially Sundew.

* The bumblebee is a species of bee in the Apidea family and the class Insectia.
* Bumblebee was named after her black and yellow stripes.
* Bumblebee is the fourth dragon to have his or her hatching described in a book, the other three being [[King Darkstalker|Darkstalker]], [[Princess Auklet]], and [[Moonwatcher]].
* If one were to study Bumblebee's garbled sentences, most of them can be matched to phrases already stated by the other characters. For example, 'herkleturklemisshoo' sounds vaguely like 'horticultural mission,' something Sundew had said moments previously. 'Smeeg smog smockeefee' relates to Sundew's grumpy exclaimation 'I feel like you're mocking me.' The gap between the ending of ''The Hive Queen'' and the beginning of ''The Poison Jungle'' is most likely only a few days, which makes Bumblebee about four days old. This is consistent with the age to maturity correlation in Wings of Fire.
* Based on her lines, it seems that at only a few days old she's already aware of her name, and some others. Calling herself "Bumpbump" and calling Sundew "Snudoo". She's at also somewhat aware of what things are called, as she calls a bug a "buf” , and she can also recognize colours like green and blue.
* She can also sing as she's seen singing about saving the day while Sundew is trapped by an actual sundew.
* It is possible that in Pantala, dragonets learn how to talk later than dragonets in Pyrrhia, as Moonwatcher learned how to say "Mommy" properly at only two hours old. However, this could be attributed to Moonwatcher’s ability to read minds.

Bumblebee is a female HiveWing dragonet who was introduced in The Hive Queen. Since her egg was only injected once with the breath of evil, she was most likely immune to the othermind's mind control. She currently resides in the LeafSilk Kingdom.

Description

Bumblebee has black scales that are striped with wide, fuzzy swathes of bright yellow[1] and yellow-and-black-striped wings.[2] She has patches of black scales circling her yellow-gold eyes, making her look like a tragic panda. She has a rather round face,[3] as well as a very loud, high-pitched voice.[4] She is small,[5] roughly the size of a large mango.[6] She has big, black-rimmed, woebegone eyes in a warm golden face, as well as thin, shimmering wings.[7]

Personality

Bumblebee is fierce,[8] loud,[9] squirmy,[10] grumpy, and her face typically bears an outraged expression.[11] She often turns into a shrieking hurricane of fury when it is time for bed.[8] After hearing Swordtail state that some dragons can be stupid,[12] Bumblebee avidly agreed, shouting her opinion loudly enough that several dragons flying overheard turned to see what the noise was. She then proceeded to shout insults at several surrounding grasshoppers.[13]

Biography

The Lost Continent Prophecy

The Hive Queen
Bumblebee's egg was first found by Cricket when she crept into the Jewel Hive Nest. Her egg had been marked ORPHANAGE, and had only one of Queen Wasp's poisonous stinger marks on its shell. Cricket rescued Bumblebee from the Nest because she pitied the egg and hoped that she, like Cricket herself, would be immune from Wasp's mind control. After leaving the Nest, Cricket took Bumblebee's egg to one of Sundew's hideouts, where Bumblebee hatched shortly after their arrival. After feeding her a fish, Cricket tucked the sleeping hatchling into a scarf sling around her chest. Bumblebee was present around Cricket's chest as Blue, Cricket, Sundew, and Swordtail destroyed most of Queen Wasp's breath of evil supply.
The Poison Jungle

After Sundew and Cricket started arguing, Bumblebee cried out to Sundew, and she realized that the dragonet was trying to say her name. When Sundew spoke to Blue and the others about the horrors of the Poison Jungle, she said that the loud and flappy ones always get eaten first, implying Bumblebee.

A little later, Bumblebee suddenly piped up, jabbing Cricket in the chin. She turned her head towards Sundew and reached hopefully towards the LeafWing, saying something similar to 'eat now please.' As Cricket explained what she believed Bumblebee said, the dragonet repeated herself, attempting to wiggle out of her sling.

During the mission to find Hawthorn, Bumblebee caused them both to run into a giant sundew plant, after getting scared by an enormous tsetse fly in front of Sundew. They worked together to escape the plant.

Bumblebee was present when Sundew, Cricket, Willow, Mandrake, and Nettle reached the Den of Vipers. The dragonet was asleep in her sling, but Sundew looked at her and wondered if they should not have taken her with them.

When Cricket, Sundew, and the others returned to the SapWing village with the supposed antidote, Cricket left Bumblebee with Tsunami. Bumblebee responded with lots of yelling, but Cricket insisted that Bumblebee needed to stay safe.

When Cricket and Sundew returned to the throne room to get Bumblebee, she ran to Sundew and bumped against her talons, reaching to be picked up. Sundew lifted her and called her "little bug."

Bumblebee was with Cricket, Sundew, Willow, Hazel and many other LeafWings and SilkWings when they began their journey to find the Distant Kingdoms.
The Dangerous Gift

When Snowfall met the Pantalan refugees, Bumblebee came and attacked her, who she fended off with her weapons. The dragonet goes back crying to Cricket.

Bumblebee was later seen in Sanctuary trying to catch a butterfly while Cricket, Qibli, Winter, and Lynx were searching for "Pumpkin" (Daffodil). After Qibli suggested that a secret stealth team should go to Pantala to defeat the othermind, Bumblebee wanted to be a part of the team, jumping off a boulder and landing in the grass while shouting. While Wren and the dragons further discussed about going to Pantala, Bumblebee was seen playing with Daffodil as she tossed the dragonet into the air and caught her, while Bumblebee sat on her shoulders and played with her hair.
The Flames of Hope
At the epilogue, Bumblebee was living in the LeafSilk Kingdom with Cricket, her parents, and friends.

Field Guides

A Guide to the Dragon World
Bumblebee was mentioned in Cricket's letter to Starflight about including Pantalan students at Jade Mountain Academy. Cricket said that she was interested in sending Bumblebee there when the dragonet was older. Bumblebee was later mentioned in a letter from Willow to Cricket about HiveWing abilities.

Relationships

Axolotl

Axolotl quickly made their way straight into Bumblebee's heart after meeting them; Bumblebee bonked them with her head and they gave her a carrot to gnaw on.[5] After Bumblebee bonked them again, they laughed and stated Bumblebee to be a "loud friend".[9]

Blue

Bumblebee has a positive relationship with Blue. When Bumblebee hatched, Blue was extremely excited to raise her.

Cricket

Bumblebee adores Cricket. Cricket is also the dragon who saved her egg from Queen Wasp's mind control by taking her from her Nest. She carried Bumblebee all the way to Wasp Hive in a scarf sling tied around her chest while they destroyed Queen Wasp's supply of mind-controlling plants.[14] Cricket acts motherly towards her, praising her when she correctly followed Sundew's directions, calling her a "good listener", "such a smart dragon," and talking to her like a mother would to her child. Cricket also once stated that Bumblebee did not have to be mean and scary, unlike the other mind-controlled HiveWings. When she sought comfort after being chided by Snowfall, she buried her face into Cricket's shoulder.[7] Cricket cares about Bumblebee's upbringing, as she reminded the little dragonet that it was right to try and use kind words and understand one another.[13]

Daffodil

Bumblebee is on friendly terms with Daffodil, as she let Daffodil play with her.[15]

Dusky

Bumblebee is better at bedtimes when they have sleepovers, and Dusky loves her fierceness.[8]

Nettle

Bumblebee and Nettle dislike each other. Bumblebee dislikes Nettle since she is mean and complains, while Nettle dislikes Bumblebee for being a HiveWing, [16] Nettle was very mean to Bumblebee saying she was a nasty dragon, even suggesting feeding her to the dragon-traps.[16] In return, Bumblebee often mocked Nettle's complaining.[17]

Sundew

Bumblebee has a special fondness of Sundew and looks up to her greatly, which started as the result of Sundew giving her food. After Sundew gave a dried mango to the newborn dragonet to keep her still, she was mentioned to "give Sundew a worshipful look."[18] Bumblebee calls Sundew "Snudoo."[6] In The Poison Jungle, Sundew begins to show affection towards Bumblebee, willingly holding her and giving her food.[19] When Sundew was in the SapWing village, Sundew was wondering if anyone had fed Bumblebee. Bumblebee and Sundew worked together to escape a giant sundew plant.

Swordtail

Bumblebee seems to think that Swordtail is funny. When he told her to be quiet, she fell over giggling.[20]

Tsunami

Bumblebee disliked Tsunami, as evidenced by her not wanting to stay with her in The Poison Jungle.[21]
