The Wingwatchers are a group of humans that watch for possible nearby dragon sightings that pose a threat to Valor.

Goals/description

The Wingwatchers are a group of humans who watch for dragons outside of Valor, and gather information about them.[1] Prior to the War of SandWing Succession, Wingwatchers were more focused on learning more information about dragons and teaching the village about them. After the citizens of Valor moved underground, their goal shifted to protecting Valor from dragons by alerting people when they are outside and guarding entrances so no one leads the dragons to Valor.

Most Wingwatchers start training at the age of twelve,[2] guard entrances at age fifteen and move onto running missions outside at sixteen. If they survive, they usually retire to a different job in the caves sometime between the ages twenty-two and twenty-five.[3]

History

In the prologue, Stone tried to remember what the Wingwatchers had told him that might help him survive the dragon battle.

The Wingwatchers were later mentioned to have been ordered to look for iron by Heath when Ivy talked to Miss Laurel about Pine's banishment. Daffodil later mentioned them in reference to a 'big meeting' they were having. Ivy, Daffodil, and Violet become Wingwatchers, participating in the Wingwatcher welcome ceremony.

Several Wingwatchers including Foxglove, Violet, and Squirrel were arrested by Heath, as he believed they had been working with the Invincible Lord to assassinate him. Their actual plan was revealed to have been to organize a vote to see if the people of Valor were interested in having a different leader. It was mentioned that Heath wanted to capture Leaf so he could execute him and the Wingwatchers together. The arrested Wingwatchers were later freed by Ivy, Wren, and Sky.

Trivia

  • There are very few Wingwatchers who love dragons like Foxglove and Ivy.[4]
