'''The Brightest Night''' occurs when all three moons are full, which happens about every one hundred years. Not much is known about this rare phenomenon.

According to the [[NightWings]], one full moon grants prophecy telling, another gives mind reading, and the third was originally believed to gift animus magic, until it was later proven that animus magic is transferred genetically. During the events of ''[[The Brightest Night (book)|The Brightest Night]]'', there appears to be a second brightest night, many decades before the next one should have been. The term brightest night refers to a celestial phenomenon occurring roughly once every century,[1] when all three moons are simultaneously full.

Description

Brightest nights occur when all three moons are full on the same night.[2]

At the time of Darkstalker, NightWings thought dragonets who hatched on the brightest night would have animus powers, but it was later concluded the third moon would only enhance their foresight and mind-reading.[2]

Timeline

  • Darkstalker's hatching night happened on a brightest night, one of the three instances where brightest nights have occurred in the series.[3]
  • During an unspecified point in history when Queen Cicada ruled the HiveWings, a brightest night occurred.[4]
  • A brightest night occurred in 5,005 AS when the dragonets of destiny hatched.[5]
  • A false brightest night occurred in 5,011 AS[1] when a comet passed through the sky, acting as a false fourth moon and causing earthquakes.[6]

Trivia

  • Tui has confirmed the possibility of a "darkest night."[event 1]
