The Dragonet Prophecy was created by Morrowseer and Battlewinner eight years into the War of SandWing Succession. It was the main plot in the first arc, though it was later proven to be made up by the NightWings to claim the Rainforest Kingdom for themselves in The Dark Secret, and was elaborated on by Stonemover in The Brightest Night.

Members of the Talons of Peace (Kestrel, Dune, Asha, Hvitur, and Webs) stole and brought the eggs of the dragonets of destiny, as they are referred to, to a cave in the Claws of the Clouds Mountains to hatch and fulfill their supposed fate. Of the five guardians, only Webs lived to see the end of the war due to Hvitur and Asha's deaths before the dragonets hatched and the death of Dune when the dragonets escaped from the cave. In the epilogue of The Dragonet Prophecy, Kestrel is killed by Blister.

At the end of The Dark Secret, Morrowseer revealed that the prophecy was false and that the NightWings' only motive to make the prophecy was to use the dragonets to save their tribe. It was somewhat fulfilled, however, because Burn and Blister died, leaving Blaze as the only living SandWing sister. Whether Blaze learned anything or gained "the power of wings of fire" is not certain, but she did bow to a fate that was stronger and higher (meaning, accepting Thorn as the new SandWing queen), showing that the prophecy was partly true. Also, the Eye of Onyx, which was the necklace that chose the new SandWing queen, had golden wings on it, which glowed as if on fire, meaning that the "wings of fire" was most likely the Eye of Onyx. Even if the prophecy had not been false, it could not have been fully completed because "the largest egg in mountain high" was broken by Burn, forcing Webs to go to the Rainforest Kingdom to get a replacement egg, Glory's.
At the end of The Dark Secret, Morrowseer revealed that the prophecy was false. Its sole purpose was to save the NightWings from the volcano by using the dragonets to claim the Rainforest Kingdom. Nonetheless, the Dragonet Prophecy was somewhat fulfilled; this is due to the deaths of Burn and Blister, leaving Blaze as the only living SandWing heir, and the crowning of Queen Thorn, thus marking the end of the war.

There is also The Jade Mountain Prophecy and The Lost Continent Prophecy, both of which are foretold by Moonwatcher, the first telepathic NightWing since the time of Darkstalker. Unlike the Dragonet Prophecy, these were the first real prophecies in generations.

(This is the page for the prophecy known as "The Dragonet Prophecy." You may be looking for the book or the graphic novel instead.)

The Dragonet Prophecy from The Dragonet Prophecy by Mike Holmes.

The Dragonet Prophecy was a false prophecy created by Battlewinner and Morrowseer eight years into the War of SandWing Succession as part of a ploy to claim the Rainforest Kingdom for the NightWings.

Various members of the Talons of Peace brought the eggs of the dragonets of destiny to a cave in the Claws of the Clouds Mountains to hatch and fulfill their foretold fate. Many dragons believed in the prophecy.[1]

The Dragonet Prophecy

When the war has lasted twenty years ...
the dragonets will come.
When the land is soaked in blood and tears ...
the dragonets will come.

Find the SeaWing egg of deepest blue,
Wings of night shall come to you.
The largest egg in mountain high,
will give to you the wings of sky.
For wings of earth, search through the mud
for an egg the color of dragon blood.
And hidden alone from the rival queens,
the SandWing egg awaits unseen.

Of three queens who blister and blaze and burn,
two shall die and one shall learn
if she bows to a fate that is stronger and higher,
she'll have the power of wings of fire.

Five eggs to hatch on brightest night,
five dragons born to end the fight.
Darkness will rise to bring the light.
The dragonets are coming ...

Interpretations

These are user interpretations of the Dragonet Prophecy. While they have been reviewed and deemed accurate by parts of the community, it is important to note that they are not stated in canon.

When the war has lasted twenty years...
the dragonets will come.
When the land is soaked in blood and tears...
the dragonets will come.

(Twenty years after the beginning of the War of SandWing Succession, the dragonets of destiny will stop the war. However, it ended up being twenty years after Queen Oasis's death and eighteen years after the start of the actual war.)

Find the SeaWing egg of deepest blue,
Wings of night shall come to you.
The largest egg in mountain high,
will give to you the wings of sky.
For wings of earth, search through the mud
for an egg the color of dragon blood.
And hidden alone from the rival queens,
the SandWing egg awaits unseen.

(A SeaWing hatched from the egg that was of the deepest blue in the Kingdom of the Sea, a NightWing whose egg was given willingly, a SkyWing from the largest egg in all of the Sky Kingdom, a MudWing from a blood-red egg, and a SandWing from a hidden egg all alone where none of the rival princesses could find it. However, the SandWing turned out to be part NightWing, and the SkyWing was replaced with a RainWing.)

Of three queens who blister and blaze and burn,
two shall die and one shall learn
if she bows to a fate that is stronger and higher,
she'll have the power of wings of fire.

(Two of the sisters fighting for the title of SandWing queen will die, and the survivor will gain the wings of fire (the Eye of Onyx) by succumbing to a more powerful force. It was meant to be Blister, with the NightWings as her ally. Instead, Blaze survived, and her fate was to accept Queen Thorn for the SandWing throne, which she did.)

Five eggs to hatch on brightest night,
Five dragons born to end the fight.
Darkness will rise to bring the light.
The dragonets are coming ...

(The dragonets will hatch on a night with three full moons and stop the war, and the NightWings will seize power. However, the NightWings did not seize power, and instead got the rainforest by accepting Queen Glory as their queen.)

Trivia

 • Tui rewrote the prophecy in nine different versions, the first draft being "Wings of sand and wings of night, wings of earth and sea and sky. Five shall form the wings of fire; The dragonets of peace are nigh."[event 1]
 • Tui originally had eight dragons in the prophecy, the other three being Peril, Sky (originally named Ember), and Winter. She decided that there would only be five because she thought that eight characters were too much.[event 2][event 3]
