- "That's what I said! I didn't want this job! It was Mother's idea, and she's friends with Princess Greatness, so that's, you know, they made it happen. But I told them the dumbest NightWing ever hatched shouldn't be Mastermind's assistant."
- — Strongwings to Fierceteeth about being an assistant of Mastermind, Prisoners
Strongwings is an adult male NightWing who was introduced in The Dark Secret. He was formerly a scientific assistant to Mastermind and currently he resides in Renewal. He is in a relationship with Fierceteeth.
Description
Strongwings has black scales[1] and black eyes.[2] He is beefy,[3] large, and burly, nearly twice the size of Fierceteeth, with a large back and massive shoulders.[4] He looks ill and underfed,[5] with huge, strong wings.[1] His version of a smile includes baring his teeth awkwardly at the other dragon.[6]
Personality
Fierceteeth describes Strongwings as "not the sharpest claw on the dragon." He is stout,[7] clumsy, slow, and has low self-esteem, frequently expressing how he believes that he is stupid. He also took the blame when he and Fierceteeth got caught by Morrowseer and Deadlyclaws for entering the animus tunnels, showing his selflessness.[7] While Fierceteeth schemed during their imprisonment, Strongwings caught up on sleeping and eating.[8] While he lived on the NightWing island, he was a notorious mess and possibly the slowest dragon in the tribe. He left bits of carcasses around his sleeping spot and accidentally stepped on everyone's tails on his way to bed at night.[9] He never spoke in class, unless it was to say something boneheaded to one of the other dragonets, who always ignored him. He mumbled,[4] snored, and told stupid jokes,[10] and he is repeatedly described as unintelligent.[11][12] Unlike most NightWings, he laughs when jokes are funny instead of trying to counter it with something more witty.[6]

Strongwings was the lab assistant of Mastermind. He was shown asking when he would be able to get an anti-RainWing venom helmet. However, since Mastermind only had one, and that one was only a prototype, Strongwings was unable to have one. Tsunami forced Strongwings to swear allegiance to Glory when the NightWings evacuated their island, which he did not seem pleased about. However, as the volcano was erupting, he reluctantly blurted "Queen Glory!", so that he could pass into the rainforest. |
| The Brightest Night |

Strongwings was one of the three dragons who captured Sunny. Their plan was to hold Sunny hostage so that a NightWing could overthrow Glory and take control of the rainforest. Strongwings hoped to be the king, explaining why he helped Fierceteeth. He, Fierceteeth, and Preyhunter were asleep when Sunny stole the Obsidian Mirror. She wrote them a message that stated "TURN BACK. YOU FLY TOWARD YOUR DEATH," which arose Strongwings' superstitions of the Darkstalker and the legends of him, causing him to panic. When they arrived at the Scorpion Den to send a message to Burn, Thorn demanded to know where Morrowseer was. She killed Preyhunter, thinking he was lying about his death. After Sunny convinced Thorn Morrowseer died, the other two NightWings were put "somewhere unpleasant." |

| Winter Turning |

|
Glory mentioned to Winter that she had two prisoners she needed to deal with, but Thorn had agreed to keep them in her SandWing prison temporarily, referring to Strongwings and Fierceteeth. In the epilogue, Darkstalker read the mind of a young NightWing, who had received a letter from old friends saying they had escaped Thorn's prison, presumably Strongwings and Fierceteeth. |
| Escaping Peril |
|---|
| When a NightWing followed Turtle and Peril, she believed it may have been one of the NightWings who had escaped Thorn's prison. |
| Talons of Power |
|---|
| After Darkstalker looked into the future and saw a band of criminals led by Fierceteeth killing Queen Glory, he decided to stop it as an act to earn more trust from the RainWing queen. Strongwings was among the dragons captured by Darkstalker. As shown in The Brightest Night, Strongwings was very afraid of Darkstalker and was terrified when he realized the legendary nightmare dragon had captured him. He and Fierceteeth were imprisoned for the night, but Darkstalker secretly freed them so they could fly with him to the Night Kingdom and rejoin the tribe. |
| Darkness of Dragons |

| He and Fierceteeth were indirectly mentioned to have escaped from the SandWing dungeon by Thorn. |

Strongwings and Fierceteeth were trapped in a SandWing dungeon. Fierceteeth said that he snored while she was making all the plans. In one of Fierceteeth's letters to Saguaro, she told a story about her relationship with Strongwings. According to the story, Strongwings and Fierceteeth once snuck to the rainforest and were punished together. Fierceteeth said that if Saguaro decided to help her escape, Strongwings had to go with her. According to Fierceteeth, Strongwings had been a loyal friend to her, even if he snored, ate, and maybe did not do much. |

| Deathbringer overheard snoring while attempting to kill Slaughter, mentioning that the snoring of the other NightWings was nothing like the giant snores from Strongwings, calling him "the noisiest sleeper in the fortress." |
