The SilkWing refugee camp was a temporary settlement that was introduced in The Flames of Hope. It was used by several hundred HiveWing and SilkWing refugees, from Bloodworm Hive, Jewel Hive, and Mantis Hive respectively, who were attempting to hide from Queen Wasp.

Description

The SilkWing refugee camp lies past a vast open cave that is studded with stalactites. After a few hours of travel, through tunnels and passageways within the rock,[1] the camp can be accessed through a shaft and into a damp tunnel. From a distance, the camp's noise sounds like wind in a forest.[2]

The camp itself is consisted of a giant, dark[3] cave surrounding an underground lake. Odd crystalline shapes jut from the walls, like translucent gems instead of silk. The only sources of light consist of glowworms dotting the ceiling like strange blue constellations, and a faint phosphorescent glow coming from deep under the surface of the lake. Several caves and tunnels branch off of the main camp,[2] and the camp also contains a circle of boulders.[4]

After Luna filled the caves with the light and warmth of her flamesilk, a fire crackled in the center of the boulder circle[5] and the noise within the caves increased until they were full of voices.[6]

History

The Lost Continent Prophecy

During Bryony's vision, she, along with Hemlock, Grayling and the residents from Bloodworm Hive, were shown hiding in the SilkWing refugee camp. It was later mentioned that the residents of Jewel Hive had suddenly disappeared without a trace. It was later revealed that the residents of Jewel Hive had also taken refuge in the SilkWing refugee camp in The Flames of Hope.

After meeting Pokeweed on their way to the Abyss village, Luna, Axolotl, Bullfrog, Cricket, Sky, and Wren were led towards the SilkWing refugee camp in order to speak with Hemlock. After hours of travel through several underground tunnels, they were able to reach the camp, where they spotted four SilkWing dragonets playing near the edge of the lake. Luna soon met Dusky and Tau, who was delighted to reunite with Cricket. She jokingly explained that while the LeafWings and Morpho wanted to be in charge, the entire Bloodworm Hive Chrysalis was hiding there, as well as Lady Jewel and Lady Scarab. Pokeweed then reappeared with Bryony, Hemlock, and Grayling, who asked after Sundew. Luna then agreed to have Dusky stay alongside her on their way towards the abyss village, and she then worked on removing all of the wrist cuffs from the SilkWings with her flamesilk and making more flamesilk for each of the refugees. After a fire was started, Whitespeck introduced himself to Luna and fetched Dusky something to eat. After three of the SilkWing dragonets fought over who would get to keep Axolotl as a pet, the band of dragons and humans set off to find the abyss village.
