- "But maybe she was wrong. Maybe I'm not a good queen. Maybe I've ruined the name forever."
- — Monarch about Diadem and her name, A Guide to the Dragon World
(Not to be confused with the other SilkWings named Monarch, two of the greatest queens in SilkWing history.)
Monarch is an adult female SilkWing who was mentioned in The Lost Continent. She was the last queen of the SilkWings, ruling before the Tree Wars about fifty years ago. She gave up her throne and allowed her tribe to be ruled by Queen Wasp and the HiveWings.
Personality
Monarch loves her tribe and would do anything to protect her dragons. She is conflicted,[1] yielding, optimistic,[2] and doubtful.[3] She is also generous and trusting. She got anxious and sad at the threat of violence and would try keep peace, even if it meant giving up her power as queen.[2] She cares more about her tribe than her safety and ability to live a free life, but still wishes to be outside with her dragons.[4]
Monarch was a true believer in Clearsight. Despite having doubts about the future that had been supposedly planned for her tribe under Queen Wasp's rule, she would remain faithful in her conviction and hope for the best.[4] It never occurred to her that Wasp might be lying about the contents of the Book of Clearsight, as she and her predecessors had been doing for generations in order to maintain an illusion of control.[5]
Biography
The Lost Continent Prophecy
Blue wondered why Sequoia did not accept Queen Wasp's rule as Monarch did.
Sundew talked about how Sequoia did not back down like Monarch. Later, Hawthorn mentioned how Monarch did not ask questions about the Book of Clearsight when recounting the events leading up to the Tree Wars.
Luna mentioned that Wasp left no descendants from Monarch.
Field Guides
Monarch was depicted in a portrait at the beginning of the SilkWing chapter of the guide. Later in the chapter, Monarch's final written thoughts about the Tree Wars were featured.
Relationships
Monarch likes Sequoia.[2] She believed that the LeafWing would have been a better queen to rule all of the tribes rather than Wasp;[4] however, Monarch felt "stuck in the middle" whenever Wasp and Sequoia argued during their queens meetings.[2]
Monarch is fearful of Wasp and her violence.[4] She did not trust Wasp's reports to her concerning the SilkWings[3] and believed that Wasp was not the best dragon to rule her tribe.[4]
