Umber was described as being small (as he is the youngest in his family), with brown scales and pale amber eyes. In The Dragonet Prophecy, he was mentioned to have a burnt patch across his snout.

In the graphic novel, he is copper-colored with butter-colored eyes and a pink sore on his nose.
