Skyfire is a type of stone that makes up the Orb in the Sky. If a dragon is holding or wearing it, telepathic NightWings will not be able to read their minds, hearing a low humming noise instead.[1] If a telepathic NightWing is holding it, they will not be able to read minds at all.[2]
Description
Skyfire is glittering[3] and scorched-looking black with flecks of silver and otherworldly metals.[4] It is described by Onyx to be beautiful and deadly.
History
The Dragonet Prophecy
Skyfire, although not mentioned by name, made its appearance as the "Orb in the Sky" at the end of the novel. Sunny commented that the comet made the night the SandWing queen was chosen a "false brightest night."
The Jade Mountain Prophecy
Onyx kept a piece of skyfire in an amulet around her neck, claiming that the skyfire had fallen out of the sky and burnt a hole through her mother's head.
Turtle said that he found a large piece of skyfire that fell into the ocean during the night he was out swimming. Some small pieces broke off of it and Turtle had them placed into a golden armband. Towards the end of the book, Moonwatcher asked Turtle to remove some of the pieces and give them to Qibli and Kinkajou as a gift so that they could keep their thoughts private.
Moon told Turtle to give Winter one of the rocks so it could shield Winter's thoughts as well.
Part of the reason why Moon decided to tell Peril about her powers is because Peril cannot have skyfire, as it would burn due to her firescales.
When Anemone cast a spell on Kinkajou's skyfire to heal her injuries and make her love Turtle as much as he loved her, Turtle cast a spell on it at the same time to protect Kinkajou from Darkstalker's magic.
Later, Turtle gave Anemone skyfire to protect her from Darkstalker's telepathy.
After Moonwatcher revealed that she believed that Darkstalker was not evil, Winter started to tell her about all the horrible things he had done. Qibli stopped him, stating that it was too risky to tell Moon anything as Darkstalker could just read her mind. Then Anemone appeared and offered her skyfire to Moon as she had Turtle's enchanted stick and could not be seen by Darkstalker anyways.
